Elon/Twitter/and stories from the sh!tter?

I didn't listen because what Twitter is doing is within its rights. The remedy is to start your own platform. I guess someone could argue they are quasi broadcasters and try to resurrect the fairness doctrine but I don't see that happening for the internet nor would it be good. Again I think this might be a problem without a viable solution other than start your own platform

The only reason the Fairness Doctrine had a leg to stand on was the use of public airwaves. It never applied to cable TV and was gone long before the Internet.

In one of my 6 replys to Mark's question to me, I had damn near this exact same thing typed out, but deleted it.
OH just wait until the pendulum swings. Marks (and others) brake drums will fall off the truck!
When we push that pendulum back, they may not like the power that we use to push it back. Time will tell, and you are right, this is not what this country is supposed to be. But with a totally compromised legacy "leadership", what do we expect? "Legacy" leadership with an embedded ideologue bureaucracy is another thing that our founding fathers never envisioned!
George and Ben et al, "we" can not be sorry enough for embarrassing your great efforts.
When I joined Facebook, Twitter, this board, and other social media vehicles everything was fine and dandy. I never got "banned" for sh!t I was upset about or if I disagreed. Then Trump gets elected and a switch went off. Right before Trump got elected news agencies were calling out NYT stories and calling them "fake news". The Times held its ground until Trump used the term mocking them for what other news agencies said and then the fight was on daily at every damn news conference. You know the story. Then conservatives started getting banned for what they called conspiracy theories. Hey they aren't staying in line. Shadow banning started. Lines were drawn. The paradigm shift started.

This narrative twisted people beyond stupid...aka Mark, hick, bowl, court, and others. They live in, and with every word the msm tells them. Rather than allowing people to go to church they want to ban it. Rather than allowing people to voice their opinions they want them to be turned off. We have a Hitler like cult that shuns the constitution and the freedoms we once enjoyed. They want to TELL on people like us for upholding the first amendment, they want to take away the second amendment and leave us powerless, they want to rely on the government rather than contribute to society. Immigrants used to come here looking for work now they come here to get on government care. Its authoritarian.

Funny Trump left sh!t up to the governors. Biden tried enforcing nationwide sh!t on us and Trumps the fascist. Every time a dem says racist, fascist, they are out of truths and just start screaming at the sky. They can't deal with debate, facts, or truths. They have been brainwashed by the msm. The msm and social media are controlled by evil people that know wtf they are doing.

Mission Complete! Where we go from here I have no idea. At least Elon is trying to make a difference.

Now wait a minute..... I'm not sure that I've ever deleted a post of yours because, no matter how misguided you are, you normally aren't nasty. :) Sarcastic... Yes. :)

Then it must have been Goat. You know how sensitive he can be.

Technology, among other things, is something that is advancing and changing so quick that it has been hard for us to establish norms. Normally I would agree with you about a company like Twitter. It has been the underpinning of our system to compete. Let me offer some counterpoints without solutions though.

Twitter has become a place where "the elites" including our government officials go to have debates about topics and make public announcements. It is an online public square arguably for the world. I can point out several instances over the past few years where the government (with their oversight and regulatory powers) has indicated that certain topics should be verboten and their corporate allies, namely those who control these "public" squares have dutifully squelched dissent. And in many cases we have found out that the dissent being squelched was offering an opinion that was proved to be correct with time.

I don't buy the Capitalist argument for conservative second class status. Twitter has a monopoly on the public square. Every news story links to Twitter like they used to have interviews with the public. Accepting that corporations can be shadow partners in government's oppression of opposition has me open to regulatory oversight of the tech companies in particular. It would be one thing if I thought that the algorithms and silencing being done followed a set of rules that were identifiable. However, the main rule seems to be "get rid of the people who are big enough to be problematic to my political and cultural allies." So a handle like Libs of Tik Tok gets turned off for w2 hours yesterday as a warning that sharing videos that people have posted online to show how psychotic a portion of one side has become is "hateful". The Taliban is a-okay though. The Saudi owners are all good too.

The U.S. is turning into a neo-fascist country. There is a partnership between the largest corporations and the government to work in conjunction with each other to control the narrative and subsequently us. We have so many too big to fail companies, it becomes easy for government to say, "Nice company you got there, be terrible if we had to start looking at your finances or impose regulations on you because you allowed unfortunate information to be shared on your platform..."

As a conservative, I think we need to really start looking at monopolies and consolidation. I am not at the ivegotwinners spot of "burn the corporations down" but I do think we need to possibly tug back on the reins a bit with some of the protections we have against the excesses of capitalism that we seem to have forgotten about for the past 40 or 50 years.

Its not the point should my voice not get heard? Just because I don't agree with you should you be shut off? What if the left was shut off? What if the democrats got shut off. You and others would be beside yourselves meanwhile conservatives have put up with it even though its wrong. Terrorists can post on Twitter but Trump and many other conservatives are banned? Its not just twitter either. There is an evil presence at work behind the scenes controlling this sh!t and its not good for this country. JMHO you can disagree if you wish.
Your last sentence or two is where things go off the rails. There is no evil presence pulling strings. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't necessarily make it evil. Some far-right conspiracy theorists spent a lot in their youth watching bad 80s/90s action movies/TV shows/cartoons and it shows.

Obviously there is evil in the world. That's not my point. There isn't some secret cabal hanging out in a lair deep in some swamp with the real Joe Biden gagged and tied up in their dungeon while their robot clone does their bidding.

You commingled two points in Twitter and cos that are too big to fail. Let's stick with Twitter and info. I agree with you. You have gov officials, gov agencies posting on Twitter. Gov censorship via Twitter either directly or via influence. You have journalists relying upon it heavily for news. This is an issue and a discourse problem that transcends "start your own platform." I agree with you and Musk. As for a remedy I don't know. The old Fairness Doctrine (and equal time for politicians) was it. So if Psaki or Fauci says we need to mask up and lockdown another viewpoint relating the deleterious impact of lockdowns and the negligible Covid risk to kids would get counter time. Today it's largely one way traffic on what's tantamount to a quasi gov agency - at least as it relates to info the liberals at Twitter do and don't like.

Its not secret its elites that want control. They own every freaking news channel and have created a platform to silence the right. They cancel us through social media that started out with good intentions, but when we started calling out the behind the scenes crap they were doing they started banning posts, shadow banning, and removing things that went against the controlled agenda they have created. Thats f*cked up IMO. The laptop from hell! That ALL got removed pre-election. SILENCED! You don't think that had ramifications??? The left called the people who introduced it CRAZY now they are having to retract it all. Mission accomplished.

Yeah, I did expand a bit there.

I look at it like this. Why are people (mainly on the left) afraid that Musk might take over? He says he wants to make for more free discourse across the board at Twitter. So left leaning people are freaking out because it means that they cannot control the narrative (IMO). Musk is not going to allow true threats to stay up on that site. However, he is also not going to allow what a handle like "Libs of Tik Tok" does to get labeled as hate speech and banned.

Twitter is a propaganda tool. They don't care about the little people going back and forth on it. They care about people with followings large enough to be troublesome to the Democrat Party, progressive, left viewpoint in the country. And the fact that Twitter has always jumped to do whatever the Democrats in government say should happen does make this a bit of a first amendment issue IMO.

Problem is Twitter is private and the 1st simply doesn't apply

It absolutely makes money. How does it not?
GETTR, whatever the other one was that started with a P, Truth Social.

None of those will make money.

Facebook is moderated. Twitter is moderated. Reddit is the least moderated. It also makes the least amount of money.

But does FREE SPEECH! make money? I dunno about that.
It at least makes it equal. Rather than remove an opinion, thought or idea it can be heard.

This is deep, the Trump years leading up to now and the COVID shit! Remember church or FAMILY gatherings. You CAN"T do that. Thats control. Obama had everything going the lefts way and then ooops Hillary lost what are we gonna do with orange man. The timeline of events is so plain as day its hilarious, BUT I'm crazies man and its a conspiracy. LMAO.

Maybe it's equal but Musk ain't spending 54 billion to lose money.

You're nuts. Twitters censorship is a complete one way street and everyone knows it. Hillary puts out a tweet in 2016 stating that Trump has a direct line to Kremlin running out of Trump tower. A complete lie that she knew at the time but does she get banned or censored? No.

Kamala puts out multiple tweets that Putin hacked the 2016 election and stole it for Trump. A complete lie but no ban or censorship for her.

I can put out a tweet stating that COVID came from a lab and Wuhan which is 100% true and not misleading. That tweet gets removed and I get banned. The people stating lie that it naturally came from bats get to keep tweeting with no censorship despite their lies. See the difference?

That goes back to my previous point. Do we allow the "public square" to be "private"? And if Twitter is going to be treated like a private entity, then I think that private company should be open to being sued for the content they allow to be distributed on their website. Take away the protections of all of these private companies and then they have to start charging money to use them and the power they have disintegrates. I am not paying to use Twitter or Facebook and neither are 90%+ of the people who use it. Take away their government provided protections that other private media and owners have to live by and they can be private. Allow them to continue to be afforded protections by the government then they are basically a utility that should not be allowed to pick and choose content.

I am not going to hold the tail of capitalism as it swam dives into a Government, Inc. tyrrany.

Lots of people on that platform. Think of all the advertising potential. He obviously has other idea's and I can't imagine it with him involved, but its bound to better and who knows. He a smart cat man.

Oh it might be better. But it sure as hell will be moderated in some way. If it pisses off everyone then it's probably equal. But if it pisses people off he might lose advertising.

Twitter makes a shit ton of money right now. Messing with the formula might upset that balance. It's a risk and he def takes risks. But 54 BILLION is a big effing risk.

Yeah they'd have to dump the Fed stat that provides immunity to third party publishers like Google/YouTube etc

Facebook and Twitter are simply early adoption advantage and then, particularly in the case of Facebook, buying out and absorbing competition. Parler had issues getting server space because the government talking heads said it would be terrible for a, what they called, far right website to be allowed to air hate and disinformation. Then Amazon, owned by Bezos who also owns the servers Parler was on and the Washington Post decided that they just weren't going to allow Parler to use their servers. So, to enter you now need your own servers, your own site, to deal with Propaganda from the government and all it's partners like Twitter, Facebook, the Washington Post, etc., etc. to even get up and running and then you face trying to convince people to come over to your platform against the routine of going to the places where they and hundreds of millions like them, were already going before.

Wherein, in my opinion, antitrust should come into play....that's just me.

Not when you have 150 OTHER billion :)

To put on a show. Same as when they call in all the oil company execs.
No, because they thought that they helped the Russians elect the wrong guy President. None of that shit would have mattered had the right person (Hillary) won. The right person (Biden) won this time so you won't see much of that dog and pony show while the Democrats are in charge. You may see it again starting in 2023 if the Repiblicans get control and decide they are as tired of Agrawal and Zuckerberg's shit as Musk appears to be.

The US gave up on using antitrust against big tech decades ago when they let Microsoft off the hook. From that point they've refused to consider big tech having illegal monopolies.

Yeah and they were wrong. Just because we were wrong then doesn't mean we need to continue being wrong now. And to me, it isn't just the tech companies. There are quite a few companies that I would be breaking back into pieces.

Every system has it's excesses that can lead to problems. An excess of capitalism is an increasing consolidation of goods and services under fewer and fewer owners. Government is supposed to provide oversight of those excesses and business should also form a counterweight to government. When both of them are in cahoots with each other you get crony capitalism which is just a euphemism for true Mussolini style fascism.

The problem we have today is that some people are so attached to the dogma that they no longer are pragmatic about solutions. When one side believes government is the solution and the savior and the other believes that business is, what happens when both of those supposed counterweights are actually working together? Look around you. This is what happens.

I honestly think you replied to my post thinking you were replying to someone else. Getting banned on twitter doesn't prove there's some large, evil conspiracy-laden group trying to take over the world.

Even if you want to call it censorship, it's miles away from world domination aspirations. "A company deleted/banned comments I agree with" doesn't prove there if a nefarious plot to gain ultimate power.

When you say things like "calling out the behind the scenes crap" and "controlled agenda" you do realize you sound like a wild conspiracy theorist, don't you?

Seriously, this is where things get whacky for me. You're aligning yourself with people like Mike Lindell and Sidney Powell. They're crazy conspiracy theorists who perpetuate lie upon lie. And it's not hard to prove that. Whether it's one of them or a Fox News host, when they're under oath in a deposition, they all freely admit they're full of it. The problem is, exposing the emperor having not clothes like that doesn't make its way down the chain to people on facebook or internet message boards.
