Dustin Dopirak on potential IUBB coaching candidate pool shrinking

Not sure how you say that, when he took a Texas Tech team(a school that had never been to, and hasn't been since) to a NC game. Also...wasn't that team comprised of primarily the same players Knight missed the tournament with a season prior? I could be wrong on that. And yes, he's stuck in MS, where he is winning at a higher rate that that school has ever won at any other time in its history. You dont like him, and that's fine, but don't trash talk his coaching ability just because you don't like him personally.

I think it was his 3rd or 4th TT team. That particular team is the only P4 team he had the levels of success we're gonna expect out of him. The other 7+ P4 teams he's coached, had a cumulative sub .500 conference record. And its not like he had an awful year bogging that down. They were all relatively mediocre. A couple of them won some NCAA games. None of them won a conference tournament.

I have him as one of my top 3 (of candidates that seem somewhat realistic), along with McCollum and McCasland. But I think its important to temper the expectations a little bit. He has not shown anything, at this point, that indicates he'll come in and compete for B10 titles every year.

Agreed on all that. And I think he'd do pretty well here. I just don't think its a given IU would be the first place he'd compete for major conference titles every/most years at.

I never said anything about Woodsons Knicks teams shooting more 3's than the NBA had ever seen. You just aren't good at paying attention. I said, that Woodsons Knicks teams werent scared to shoot the 3, even ranked 2nd in the NBA one season. I said Indiana would shoot 20 a game this year. You guys said Woodson was against the 3, which contradicted already proven fact.

And his own teams performances prove that its dumb. But he continues and continues to do it.

This is my concern as well. A lot of fans want to be relevant and have Knight like teams but they also want coaches that aren't proven. That or they want coaches that are better than average but they feel they will automatically level up if they come to IU. This thinking that any number of coaches can easily win at IU (because it's IU) has been around since Mike Davis was hired.

Most of the media guys say IU was told no by Stevens and that IU told Beard no. Hopefully one of those is wrong or there is a secret candidate that we don't know about.

2nd...When has IU gotten who they wanted as coach since Sampson? Crean was not top 5, Miller might have been top 5, but other big names turned it down ahead of him, Woodson obviously was not high on the list. So that's 3 consecutive hires, without getting a coach in the top 3 of their list. Did you hear Painter? Do you think coaches don't talk to each other? He didn't come up with that shit randomly. He has more knowledge than you, and straight up told you why IU can't get their preferred coach. If you want to lie to yourself fine, that's your perogative, but Miller, Woodson, and presumably the next coach, should all show you that you are wrong. IU basketball as many of us have known it throughout the majority of our lives, is dead. And the "fans" are atleast half of the problem.

I will give you that. But, I think Reneau is the cause of that for the past 2 seasons. He's a tweener, making it hard to play him at the 4 or 5, without a very specific skill set for the other big. Hes a good kid, and good player, just a really tough fit. I do think Woodson is too quick to play upper classmen just because of that fact. I would love to have seen Gunn and Banks get more run.
