If they hire him, I would hope it’s because they believe the incident wasn’t as has been largely portrayed, and they feel confident something like that would ever happen again.

The guys you mentioned are like retread tires. Beard or if he is a no take a chance since my other favorite is out. The worst possible hire would be a Brownell, McDermott, Turgeon, etc. Just not nearly good enough.
