Just wanted to point out a couple things I hadn't really known or thought much about.

Its obvious his time at Bradley is probably why DeVries hired him. Bargen must have had good things to say about Adams...and then I would suspect DeVries himself would have had some impressions of him from his time at Drake. Adams did seem to make a name for himself as an effective assistant coach at Bradley.

Also...seems like he was at least a decent player. I knew he played for Holmes, but didn't know he was All Conference, and played JUCO, then was on the Iowa roster for Alford for a year. Doesn't really mean a ton, but knowing he was a pretty good ball player does change my perspective, a little bit.

Despite the above info... still haven't heard many good things from the people I know in Indiana HS and AAU circles. But the Bradley/Bargen connection makes the hire quite a lot more easy to understand.

He was atrocious at basketball. Only reason he was on teams was because of his dad. I legit might have been better than him. Look at stats, if there are any, he was a pudgeball back then too. His dad wanted him so bad to play basketball for a living. Got him an IU job tho, now twice! Worked out well for them, shitty for us!

DeVries tried to hire Drew Adams last year at West Virginia.

Ha ha...all I was going on was stats. At a minimum, he appears to have been a pretty good shooter.

His dad certainly could have influenced Holmes...but the All conference voters? The JUCO college coach that took him on? Plausible I guess.

I only included it because I had always assumed he was a Tom Crean like player. His stats and accomplishments, regardless of his dad's impact on them, seem to imply he was a decent player, though.

Yeah...the article posted today led me to dig deeper in to his career. There are a lot of coaches in and around the state of Indiana that could provide some connections with high school and AAU coaches in the state. Maybe he and his dad's connections in Indiana are the primary drivers for why Bargen and DeVries have such a high view of him? But I'd guess its more performance based on what he was able to do and accomplish at Bradley, and New Mexico before that.

His Cincy bio says the '04 Bloomington South team was the Conference Indiana champion, and that Adams was the captain, leading scorer, and all-conference. Are any of those claims incorrect?

Don’t get Cav started on the subject of Adams. It brings back too many repressed childhood traumas.

Grain of salt, North. Grain of salt.

To be honest, I'm underwhelmed with he and Johnson. I guess we need to trust the head man for now though. Who else is on the staff?

At south??? What stats.

I assume every one of them. I mean I was 03 and he got held back to 04. But he for sure sucked at basketball. I couldn’t have been that high. He didn’t play when I was senior. I guess the class below us was pretty bad thinking back he could have been those things. Conference Champs is what beating your rival school? Ring a captain is a pointless accolade.

The article today listed shooting percentages and points per game. No real context. Other than South isn't exactly a low level high school program. None of this proves he's as good as Anthony Leal, by any means... just jumped out at me because I had always viewed him as likely a "Tom Crean" type person.

Leal did win Mr basketball. So ya. Take all this with huge grains of salt(does that make sense how I worded it) . Adams sucked.

He was a good varsity high school basketball player. Not D1 scholarship level by any means (not many are), but a good high school basketball player for a good coach/program nonetheless.

Can't have a real conversation though with somebody that has been personally victimized by the guy.

There is not one person that graduated from south in Drew’s original class of 03 that would call him a good basketball player. He was not liked at all. This is not a me thing.

I had my own uninformed view of Adams from knowing of him through AAU circles, seeing him interact with AAU and high school kids. And I never thought to look up what kind of player he actually was. Surprises me that he was any sort of good or solid player.

And reading that he’s won assistant coaching awards at Bradley…didn’t know there was such a thing, but since there is, it shows he’s probably a fair bit more valuable than what I knew of him. Which was simply his AAU and HS connections.
