Dolson last chance

Come on man, are you giving up a job that pays you 1 mil a year because someone above you of the food chain gives you marching orders?
I know I wouldn't.

No one here knows what the specifics are with the Woodson hire.
What we do know for a fact is SD singled out Buckner for his help or facilitation (can't remember the exact wording) of communication with Woodson.
We also know about Fife and Matta being hired. Have you ever seen something like that in the past?

For me those actions speak volumes about who was responsible for this hire.

You’re right that most people wouldn’t walk away from a high-paying job over a disagreement, and I don’t blame Dolson for staying in his role. That said, my point is less about whether Dolson should have resigned and more about accountability and leadership. As an athletic director, your job isn’t just to manage the day-to-day operations of the department; it’s to set a vision for the program and make decisions that align with that vision. If Dolson truly didn’t support the Woodson hire but went along with it anyway, it raises legitimate questions about how much autonomy he has in his role. Is he making decisions based on his own expertise and judgment, or is he simply carrying out the wishes of others? And if it’s the latter, how effective can he be in leading the program forward?

If Dolson didn’t fully support the Woody hire, he should have resigned. We tend to give Dolson the benefit of the doubt quite often.
What would that have accomplished? Some worse replacement AD gets hired, and that new AD is 100% getting bulldozed by Quinn and Ferguson too.

Instead, Scott lived to fight another day. Thankfully he did, because he got a chance at the football hire, which he did a great job with. And now he just fired Woody, which was not easy at all, and he likely has a lot of influence on this next bball hire.

Scott is on our side. There are no guarantees he nails the next bball hire, but I think he gives us a good chance and I’m glad he is likely leading the process.

I’m glad Dolson is still here to lead this basketball hire, and I’m hopeful he’ll get it right. He’s shown he can make strong decisions when given the opportunity, That said, the idea that he had to “live to fight another day” highlights the challenges he’s faced in his role. To be clear, though, we don’t have concrete evidence that Dolson was pressured into hiring Woody. It fits the narrative, but it’s light on proof. What matters now is that Dolson has the chance to lead this search, and I hope he’s given the autonomy to make the best decision for IU.

Woody was a crony hire. Doyel even wrote about it in the IndyStar. It pays to have your best friend as Chairman of the Board and your long-term mentor as a former Chairman who is also very close to our biggest donor.

But yea, that’s all behind us, we all have to pray or hope that Scott has a clear shot on this next hire and he gets it right. It’s a big moment, I would love for us to be good at basketball again.

Why are we not talking about the guy that has us in this position? Maybe our coaches aren't up to par but maybe it is the guy that has names the last 4 coaches that is the problem.
Your last sentence basically says:
“I’m a dumbass and have no clue what is going on.”

Dolson hasn’t been our AD for 24 years. But to your point, Woody was a terrible choice. In my opinion, Dolson anticipated Woody would face challenges, which is why he brought in Fife and Matta as part of the hire. Still, he should have known better.

Listening to everyone’s coaching wishlist makes me question how realistic the options are. Last year, two fellow blue-blood programs, Kentucky and Louisville, ended up hiring mid-major coaches after seemingly missing out on more established candidates. IU has also struck out in its last several coaching searches. Yet, fans remain optimistic that top-tier coaches are eager to come here. It makes me wonder how many of these coaches will feign interest in the IU job just to leverage our interest into a pay raise at their current school.
I know We are talking basketball, but Dolson has earned a lot of respect for hiring decisions with his hiring of Cignetti as Football Coach. No more need for Consulting Firms and meddling Board Members. Turn Dolson loose to talk to his Sources and Candidates, and stay out of his way.
