Does anyone know why OSU fans

OSU fans lead the nation in goatees and drink gravy, but I give them a break because they have to watch the Browns and Bengals on Sunday. OSU has had a ton of success, and it brings out the losers with nothing else going on in their lives. Most die hard football fans are idiots to begin with and it's all part of the idiot sports fan package. They just happen to be from Ohio.

I was in Bloomington from 2009-2012 and my degree is from the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation which is now the School of Public Health. I lived at Henderson and Hillside, my favorite bar in town was Yogi's, and Farm is where I had perhaps the best filet I've ever had.

Cool. Is that formerly known as HYPER?

I lived at Henderson Crossing for my last undergrad summer which was at like 2nd and Atwater...I'm not sure that is the same Henderson-ish to which you refer.

You sound younger than me because, while I have been to both, Yogi's and Farm were both a little after my undergrad days.

Nonetheless...go Hoosiers!!!

That is all sound commentary.

I had not considered the gravy-drinking component, but it is reasonable.

I would characterize Kentucky basketball fans similarly.

You didn't have any luck selling your tickets on the O$U board?

Did not...no takers so I am going!!!

I saw four on the market for $1,600 so I thought that would be reasonable. Didn't happen so I am going with a buddy and my little girl.

You need one? I still have one available I think. Gwine be fun!!! Get on the bandwagon ZidjianZLine!!!

I have been around Ohio State folks in other walks of life beside football and have family connections to the State via in-laws. I have found that many Ohioans are otherwise kind, reasonable and decent people until the game comes on. Then, a nasty, almost sub-human component of their personality comes out. Rudeness, vulgarity, hatefulness, or disrespectful behavior toward opponents and their fans is perfectly okay if you're an Ohio State football fan. Basketball, not so much. They'll say, well you don't understand because you're not from Ohio. I suppose its an ugly aspect of their culture, which they cannot themselves see, and which was indoctrinated into their personality at a young age. Its very pathetic. You should have seen how angry they were because they only beat N Illinois by 7. Seething, fuming, ready to punch someone or something type of anger.

I'll predict this, if Indiana happens to win this weekend, there is going to be a bit violence around Memorial stadium. Probably a few cars burned in Columbus as well. The rest of us don't understand, you know, because we're not from Ohio.

Were you there the day they tore down OUR goalposts?

Real simple answer to prevent that issue: don't let a visiting team's fan base put as many or more fans in the stadium than the home team and take over the stadium. Absolutely no excuses for letting that happen ! Support your team !
I agree with supporting your team, and honestly have no issue with the OH-IO stuff in the stands. That's just cheering. It's our job to be louder.

But here's the problem: having a large group of traveling fans does not give you the right to act like jackasses and storm the field/tear down a fence/tear down a goal post/vandalize the stadium/scream OH-IO at IU fans and kids in the restrooms/etc. We haven't beaten UM since the late 80s either, they travel well too, and they seem able to act like adults for the most part.

Yup. For the most part have had good experiences with Michigan fans...and outstanding ones with Penn State and Iowa fans.

Cool name. When is/was "Year of the Hoosier Nation?" Did I miss it or is it still on the foreseeable horizon?

Where are you sitting on Saturday? I can pop over and buy you a diet coke.

Thanks.

Well I created this name back in I believe 2005 on the rival site before coming here last year after that site completely crumbled. Every year is the year of Hoosier Nation, come on now. I'm the best man in a wedding on Saturday so I'm stuck trying to DVR a game that I know everyone will tell me the score on if they win. Needless to say if I don't hear anything I'll know we lost.

I hear you. I had to tape the IU v. Duke game in 2002 because I had "baby class" at St. Vincent's in Indy. Needless to say, everything went wrong and I ended up finding out Indiana won before I could watch it.

I hope you have better fortunes and don't find out until late Saturday that the Hoosiers beat OSU! Safe travels...

How about Purdue fans? I've heard interesting things about them....

I've had good interactions with most Purdue fans. I've been in full IU gear in West Laffy in the middle of a Purdue section with no trouble.

I mean, it is POTFB 24/7, 365, but at the same time, there are so many split IU/Purdue households that it has a different vibe than with O$U fans.

Oh my, of all games to miss. I was working 3rd at my dads engineering firm that night. Lucky for me the game started around 730 and finished up JUST as I had to leave for work. Needless to say I've never had a better night at work in my life.

Can't wait to hear the OH - IO cheer spread throughout the stadium.
Haters are going to hate...amazing the attitude on here...first and last time for sure, as i came to see a civil discussion, but i guess not...good luck on Saturday as you are going to need it.

GO BUCKS !

Thank's for the well wishes. Your unhappiness with our fan message board is something that really hits home to us. We apologize for you not feeling completely welcome and hope you enjoy your first LOSS OF THE SEASON! HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERRRRRRRRS!

My in-laws are OSU fans and live here in Bloomington but this describes them to a tee. They asked me what I thought the score would be, I said 45-31 OSU and they got fuming mad because I said we could score 30 points on OSU defense. I just don't discuss football with them anymore. Great people and are very nice just not about OSU football.

This might come across incredibly uppity and I don't mean it to, but I think the reason that you may perceive OSU fans to be obnoxious is because you might meet the worst of us. This has to do with the type of fan that comes to that particular game. Growing up, Indiana was the one game we went to because it was affordable, in fact my first two OSU games were at Indiana. Many of the fans are willing and able to come to the games because it's affordable in comparison to trying to see a game in the Shoe...I think you are often seeing the fans at the lower socioeconomic spectrum who as you point out may not even be grads or have a strong affiliation with OSU.
There is a big ten alumni group in town. They had to ban OSU alumni because of their boorish behavior.

It's not just IU fans that feel this way about OSU fans. I think you guys are like spoiled only children. Being the only show in the state your fans aren't socialized with opposing fans. You don't know how to react when someone is cheering for the other team, so you act like brats.

SPOT ON--we with degrees (multiple degrees) tend to watch the 70" Sony's at home & BBQ etc. More comfy! Now, I flew to Arlington, TX for the NC--(first class of course-still using freq. flier miles acquire before retired) so comfy! My family also lives in Arlington--2 birds w/one stone
No desire to hit 70 W for 3.5 hrs then another hour south. Fly to Indy? Nuts. Up and down. Still more time in cars. You won't see Les Wexner in Bloomington, and certainly not LeBron James on our sideline. Not this one. We like when LeBron is on the sidelines & he even has a nice hardwood locker in the locker room to hang his jackets! Wonder if recruits like that?? Hmm. Me thinks so.

Ohio St football is all that state has. The inferiority complex creates the over the top obnoxious behavior. Frankly I prefer the typical PU grad that is obsessed with hating IU and throws things at games, at least they go back into fetal position after they lose.
Inferiority! Hmm. I would say overconfident--quite the opposite. Some think we should win every game by 60 but they are nuts. Bucknuts. I have never seen an O$U fan with an inferiority complex. They may be out there, but in the about 500+ I know and have met - none feel inferior.

I'm guessing the only degrees you have are the ones separating you from reality.

That's creative. Reality is nobody knows what burned clutch smells like unless they work in an auto repair shop I would think. Mine never smelled funny in my SLK. Reality is when I lived in Indy for 7 yrs. I saw quite a few IU fans who got drunk and did some nutty stuff. I think "burned clutch" is grasping. You can do better.
Someone also mentioned a tO$U fan urinating over a bridge on a TX fan. Did he have a flat top and stocky build? If so, he may have been my brother! I saw him hit a lady below with the stream, then had to coach him up on how to "lead" the fans like you would a receiver to hit only guys. Not women. I showed him how to shoot about 4' ahead of the fan as they were walking. Great shot. Have to remember--best stadium, best band, angry best tough team, and rabid crazy (in a great way) fan base. The whole package. 3nd largest stadium in the nation and most are not know the LARGEST single campus in the world. 70K+ students. So, for the fan who said lousy campus--70K love it and ESPN always shows Mirror Lake shots and the ivy covered buildings. I like the trees around IU, but even though Corso visited our home twice, I just couldn't do it. Dad was a little PO'd he had to pay for O$U since I walked-on, but then got the schollie. I knew since I was 11 yrs old I HAD to go to O$U. I loved bars and Mardi Gras. High St is the closest thing. 25 blocks with about 60+ bars--I love bars and especially did when 18 yrs old. Love em so much I "worked the door" at the #1 bar on campus. 15 out--then 15 in. Lined up 60+ deep around the corner to get in when 20 below wind chill - PaPa Joe's. I went down for Coach Corso and my host (will be nameless) took me to show me 2 bars. Nicks Hut and some other place. I told him he had to be kidding me. Sorry guys-some 18 yr old jocks like campus bars and a student base of 70K since sheer numbers = more good looking women. Just the numbers. Good luck this week! Oh--BTW- I have a famous hardback book titled "The Top 10 CFB Cathedrals" and the only 2 from the Midwest are THE Ohio Staduim and Notre Dame. Ya get goose bumps when our band comes out. That's why you look at your Dad when 11 yrs old and state, "I am going here and playing here." Yes, I happened if for only 1 year. (track and field 4 yrs though.)
Good luck fellas!

Even OSU alum Bobby Knight, when given the chance, didn't go back to Columbus to coach. That's all I need to know about OSU.
Uh, could it have been athletic department great vision? You remember most of the stuff, but do you remember the "salad bar" thing? Do you remember him cutting Sir Charles from team America? I promise you he would have jumped all over coaching at tO$U. We don't like choking players etc. That is why Woody was canned. Too much is too much.

The concept went over your head. Inferiority is exactly what drives the silly behavior.

Yes, RMK Cut Sir Charles and still rolled to the Gold. Hey since you changed the topic to bball, do you think Matta's kicking himself hard for not waiting for the IU job to open years ago?

Referring to their school as "The Ohio State University" say a lot. That is why, in my book, they are
always "The State University of Ohio."

The Inferiority Compex refers to everything else in your lives. You totally missed the point. Those multiple degrees must be from the state university of ohio. Did you play football too? Why do you come here? Oh yeah, because you have nothing else to do. Why don't you just go away and relive your past with other buckeye fans and stop making our point for us? What an idiot...

The fact that you brag about 70 in tvs and OSU having 70 more national titles than they actually do screams INFERIORITY COMPLEX. You live through their athletic program.

Great story, I had a few buckets at Papa Joe's in the 80's. Who burned the damn thing down?

This might come across incredibly uppity and I don't mean it to, but I think the reason that you may perceive OSU fans to be obnoxious is because you might meet the worst of us. I do make an effort to not judge a fan base by its worst elements. I certainly would not want others to judge Hoosiers on our worst fans.

Can't wait to hear the OH - IO cheer spread throughout the stadium.

I can't wait to hear it either. Nothing like putting very little brother in his place!
Btw, does the perceived arrogance of Buckeye football fans come anywhere close the the actual arrogance of IU basketball fans ( back when they were winning)?

Like I said, they drink gravy and lead the nation in goatees and sweet facial hair.

Lots of IU grads working at Starbucks these days. Perhaps that is because they have the lowest admissions standards in the entire BIG per an article in the Indianapolis Star a few years ago.

Perceived arrogance??? Good Lord you people are delusional. It would be funny it were not so sad. One more day of this nonsense.

tOSU fans smell like victory. I know we have lost football games before but it has been a while. Good luck tomorrow IU football fans. I see something like a 45 to 20 game in favor of the Buckeyes.
