It sure is a blessing to the family when mama can cook. I ain't gonna lie. I was thinking generally about life such as marriage, family career etc.translation: i hope she becomes a good cook.
Hoping newton comes back healthy is not really a strategy he has missed two full years. They need to recruit like he may never play here again. And are we really again has to listen to all summer about how we dont need portal players because guys like gunn and banks are going to kill it the next season? It is the same song and dance every summer the names just change. And as far as woodson what makes anything thinks he will change at this point and go guar heavy? It has been three years and he has not done it yet. We have zero guards so far for next year coming in.I was one that argued against reaching for more guards this past offseason. I now know I was totally wrong. Obviously not talking about reaching for walk on level players...but there's no question Woody should have cast a much wider net with perimeter players in the portal.
Holding out hope we get Davis, and that Newton is able to come back healthy next year. Galloway, Cupps, Davis, and Newton would be a much more effective backcourt next year than what we're seeing right now. But in my continued push for the need for Woody to modernize the program...he needs to replace Ware, Walker, and any other bigger, non guards that end up leaving, with guards. Guys with ball skills. Guys that can shoot, handle, make plays.
Ware is playing himself in to being a first round lock. And that's going to make recruiting bigs even easier for Woody. So I'm guessing the gravity will be pulling him back, again, to signing high level bigs this offseason. If he doesn't balance out the roster this offseason, however, if not completely flip it to being more guard dominated...I think it will be the beginning of the end of his time at IU.
We're in decent shape with Daquan Davis... McNeeley is MUCH more perimeter oriented than Mack was/is. Galloway will be back, I'm sure. And Cupps will be a year older, stronger...more ready to be a solid rotation guy. Even without an impactful Newton, a case could be made that a "backcourt" stable of Galloway, Cupps, Davis, and McNeely is better than what we have right now. Add Newton in to the mix, and I think we're moving in the right direction.Hoping newton comes back healthy is not really a strategy he has missed two full years. They've already been recruited over. We start two freshmen, two sophomores, and McNeeley will probably start over them next year.Banks and Gunn are not good. They will be recruited over and hopefully we pull in players who are better either through the portal or as freshman. They belong on the bench and need to get way better.
He missed it in the middle too, with three future fringe NBA guys on the roster. Not good enough.Crean missed it early when the program was a mess and then missed it late when OG was hurt. In between he was in the sweet 16. Where we haven’t been since he left.
McNeeley, I'm sure, will start at the "3" next year. He's much more of a ball handler, and perimeter capable 3 man than Mack is. Probably similar as shooters. They've already been recruited over. We start two freshmen, two sophomores, and McNeeley will probably start over them next year.
When did davis sign? You make him sound like a sure thing. We're in decent shape with Daquan Davis... McNeeley is MUCH more perimeter oriented than Mack was/is. Galloway will be back, I'm sure. Having said that...I agree with you. Needs to cast a much wider net with more guards. If we're replacing Ware, Mack, Walker, X, and a transfer out or two...he needs to bring in 4-5 main rotation level guards, in my opinion. Obviously not all 6' guys like Davis...but all of them capable playmakers and shooters. He still needs to go hard after Queen. And I wouldn't completely turn a blind eye on the momentum and impact that TJD and Ware's NBA draft improvements will have created.
But he CAN NOT replace the guys we lose this year with all, or anywhere near most, bigs/non guards.
Hasn't...I said we're in good shape with him. Obviously he could end up at Maryland, or wherever else he's considering. When did davis sign? You make him sound like a sure thing.
Banks and gunn don't have it for this level. Relying on them would not be wise. There is a reason neither we're ranked higher than they wereMcNeeley, I'm sure, will start at the "3" next year. He's much more of a ball handler, and perimeter capable 3 man than Mack is. Probably similar as shooters.
Galloway, assuming he returns, will start at one of the guard positions.
The other one is intriguing to me. Obviously Cupps will have a claim. But if we get someone like Daquan Davis, who is much more of a scoring threat than Cupps is, I would think that person would push for a spot. No matter what, Cupps will play big minutes. Galloway, Cupps, and McNeeley form a solid nucleus. But we really, really need 2-3 more main rotation level guys in the backcourt. Ideally a PG type guy (Davis), a shooter, and an athletic 3 and D type wing.
I don't think relying on Banks and/or Gunn, at this point, would be a wise idea. And I doubt Woody will.

Banks still has some potential as a depth player. He can guard and rebound from multiple positions. He's struggling, right now, with being out of position defensively (who isn't on our team?), but he has length and athleticism. As an 8th or 9th man, he's not terrible. I kinda doubt that's the role he's gonna want, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave. Similar story with Gunn.Banks and gunn don't have it for this level. Relying on them would not be wise. Mack is a very good shooter. He's showing that lately."Probably similar as shooters."
I was under the impression that McNeely was a pure shooter and would hit a higher % than anyone on our team.
MM is showing signs of improvement. But he was a head scratcher getting started. Hope he steps up in the B10.
