McNeely feels like the biggest piece

Idk if Queen and Boogie are IU bound… it seems possible?

But with Cupps and our current (relatively young) frontcourt roster, it’s not panic time if IU doesn’t land them IMO. Of those three, McNeely seems like the biggest fish, IMO.

Experts are projecting Mackenzie/Ware to be likely gone in spring, so that leaves a bit of a talent hole in stretch-y big dept., where McNeely should step in nicely (he seems as “immediate impact” as we can hope for).

PG is obviously key (IU spent far too many years with meh-ish talent at the position post-Yogi), so Boogie would be a take for sure, duh, but Cupps will likely develop into a solid B10 starter sooner than later (?). Seems so. A Boogie/Cupps backcourt would be interesting tho. If Boogie doesn’t run Cupps off to be “the man” elsewhere… these things can happen folks. Especially lately.

But Cupps, Malik/Payton/Banks will likely be around for another couple years. And continue to develop. And I suspect junior Malik will find another gear THIS coming year. He seems like a four-year kid IMO. Queen + Elder Malik… sounds nasty… but not pivotal for success. In deciding his fate, Queen (a one/done candidate) may be looking at Malik as a PT threat too. Not totally sure how their games are complementary.

Sure, we’d all love a massive recruiting coup with Boogie/Queen… but currently (and who knows what the portal will bring), McNeely fills what looks like could be the biggest hole. Honestly, when you look at the IU roster after this year… SG looks pretty bare IMO. With Trey/X leaving next spring, that’s a lot of chips on Cupps/Jakai filling that role somehow. Or Gunn reallllly finding something.

I realize McNeely can hit from outside, but wouldn’t mind seeing IU in on a top pure SG/scorer/finisher HS kid or transfer soon. It’s what many of us were clamoring for this summer, still feels like a need.

Keep rolling!
