Do we really need to fill the last three scollies?

I’m baffled at the expectations some have for guys that couldn’t crack a rotation that was begging for help this past season.
Its as if gunn is going to be the next eric gordon after averaging 2 points a game. If he is as great as some claim we couldnt he get bates minutes who .was awful the last six weeks of the season?

Thanks IU Louie, I have been looking a little bit also and there are still several guards that are available that might be good. Just because someone did not play in power 5 conference does not mean that they cannot.

In addition to the four you mentioned I found a few more. I am sure we are sill evaluating and may still end up with another quality player or two.

Jayson Tyson Texas Tech 6'6" 10.7 ppg 6.1 r
Ryan Nembhard Creighton 6'0" 12.1 ppg 4.8 a
Primo Spears Georgetown 6'3" 16.0 ppg 5.3 a
Posh Alexander St. Johns 6'0" 10.2 ppg 4.2 a
David Jones St. Johns 6'6" 13.2 ppg 6.8 r
Devan Cambridge Arizona St. 6'6" 9.8 ppg
Glenn Taylor Oregon St. 6'6" 11.6 ppg
Chico Carte South Carolina 6'3" 9,8 ppg 48% from 3

Keonta Kenney Memphis 6'5" 9.2 ppg 38% from 3
Tyler Perry North Texas 5'11" 17.3 ppg 41.3% from 3

I have several more that could be considered. These players are not showing as committed yet on the site ..

Who on Earth has suggested that CJ Gunn is going to be the next Eric Gordon? Gunn doesn’t need to become the next Eric Gordon for IU to make the tournament next year. I’ve never seen somebody one up their lack of intelligence with each new post they make.

Its a joke but hoping we can make the tourney based on guys who never played is risky. Especially with three open grants and tons of nil money.

Because guys can and do get better as they develop over the course of their college careers. It’s not some unheard of concept.
They can. But we just had 2 guys we expected to make big jumps and didn’t from previous seasons (Bates/Geronimo) you’d think they’d learn it isn’t some magic that just happens. And those 2 had been a good deal more productive than what Gunn or Banks have.

Guys literally get better every year. It isn’t magic. Some guys progress faster than others and some only marginally develop. Think it’s far more likely that Reneau and Ware make big jumps given and in that instance just need Banks/Gunn to become serviceable rotation pieces. I don’t think that’s a stretch at all.

Looks to me like we could put a pretty formidable team on the floor with what we have right now. With X coming back, we'll add some much needed scoring. Have to think that Banks and Gunn will be ready to play in their sophomore season. Cupps and Newton look like they'll be able to contribute some right away.

It's all about PT, and there's only so many minutes to go around. Gotta develop the players we have, and the new ones coming in IMO. Not sure getting transfers with maybe only 1 year left is the way to go. There's a reason players transfer: they want to play. I think that anyone who could have helped us in a big way is already gone.

Rumor/stories going around are that we are solid with McNeely and Sisley, two highly ranked 2024 players. And we have a lot of other 2024 offers out, most notably Bidunga and Queen. If we load up on short term rent-a-players (transfers) eating up playing time, it may make some of them change their mind.

Reneau, Sparks, Ware and Banks give us a solid front court. Cupps and Newton may surprise. If the good version of X comes back and runs the team well, we should be more than good.

Bank 'em! JMHO
I totally agree.Let's go Hoosiers. there is no one in the portal better than the 2024-2025 recruits.

That was my thought as well but at the rate gunn and banks are being built up by the end of the summer they are going to be the next coming of eric gordon.
How do you know , they are not. NO ONE is better than them in the Portal.

If you have to count of guys who barely played its iffy at best. Maybe they work out maybe they dont. Geronimo and bates didnt make the steps needed. Will gunn and banks who knows. But id love some older transfers on the team.

Nembhard is committed I think to Zaga.

In today's world..Their more likely to worry about social media .And hang on Kirkwood. Than put up 500 hundred jumpers in Cook Hall .
Very few have a Larry Bird. I practice 8 hrs a day attitude..
I hope your right..I do think Gunn has alot of potential..
Still hope we get two more solid scorers.

I would too but I guess, they are not coming. Im happy with what we have.

As far as Geronimo you'd have to set stakes to mark improvement over the last 2 years. Never was very high on his future. Laugh at the past statements stating his future was as a 3. Hell he couldn't guard a picnic table. Gunn and KB have shown me much more positive BB talent not having anything to do with the ability to jump over the scoreboard. Athlete with low BB IQ.

There is no way the current roster is better than this past year. IU better beat the bushes and find some help or it’s going to be an ugly year coming up.
Yep for sure it will be a step back unless we find a few horses this spring

I feel Gunn got off to a bad start shooting the ball and didn't play enough to build his confidence and get comfortable shooting in bigger arenas and crowds. Let him play early and see how he handles it.

Banks reminded me of Juwan Morgan in his first year. Solid play when he had his chance. I had a good feeling when he played.

Cupps and Newton would surprise me if they came in and made a major impact. It is hard for players coming from high school to high D1 schedules. The speed, strength, and experience are hard to match. Think about a freshman in high school competing against a senior. A big gap in almost all cases.

We need a couple of guards with a year of eligibility, Even if they are defensive specialists. or one dimension players. Leave one spot for a mid year transfer

Why, what’s the scoop?
He had harsh words for Bloomington residents and isn’t a fan of Indiana. I don’t want him here and I think a lot of IU fans would say the same. Not a fan of his bullshit.

You cant be serious.. We lost 80% plus of our scoring. Yes we need to fill them. You cant count on two guys who barely played and two unproven frosh to be the magic cure.
So the transfers would be proven guys? From what I have seen in the portal there are guys who were successful at a lower level or guys that didn’t get much run or production at a higher level. I don’t see how that makes them more proven than guys Woody got to see in practice all year last year. I will let him decide what we need.

No matter what way you look at it...I think we need to keep pushing hard to land a couple portal guys that would be main rotation guys.

Obviously if they're better than the guys we have at their positions, that makes the team better and deeper.

But even if they're not, but are good enough to be main rotation guys, it makes the team deeper, and I think sets the "floor" for our team much higher than it currently could be.

I still think our current roster is very capable of being an NCAA tournament team. But if we don't add any more rotation guys, our margin for error is very thin. And, in order to make an NCAA, we will be relying on some unproven guys to prove themselves...which obviously leaves a lot to chance.

We have 2 backcourt guys that have a high floor. X (assuming he gets the waiver), who is coming off of a broken foot. And Galloway, who was healthy last year but has a history of injuries.

We need depth , preferably at least one high floor guy.

Agreed...

I think 2-3 main rotation caliber players, with at least 2 of them being guard/wings, is something that would raise our floor dramatically. And is obvious reason enough to keep pushing hard in the portal.

Good Lord. Apart from not being able to rely on guys like Banks, Gunn, et al. to space the floor for us, from a roster construction standpoint, it puts one in a bad spot to have a class of 2 kids.
