Do Quinn, the board, and all the other clowns not understand the state of IUBB?

Here we sit wondering:
  • if we make the big dance (I seriously doubt it) and the Big10 tourney is not a given
  • And not a single vote in the AP top 25
How can they be satisfied with this and not make a change?
It's why I wished like hell that OSU three pointer would have fallen. Even if this team makes NIT, Woody will be kept. It's really that simple. If we have any chance to see IU special again in basketball, sooner than way later, losing big right now is the best route.

If we don’t make the NCAA tournament, he’s gone. The boos started early in January, and with about half a dozen home games remaining—along with the looming beatdowns—the booing is only going to get louder. When fans start booing and chanting against the home team, it signals the beginning of the end. The NIT wasn’t enough for Crean or Miller, and it certainly won’t be enough for Woodson either.

Will the boos continue?

Wednesday we play in WRA, and face an 11-7 team. That is certainly a winnable game. Then it’s back home for Maryland.

IF, we win in Evanston, and avoid a lackluster start to Maryland I could see the crowd in that game playing nice and help create a positive environment. Win those 2 and we are 7-3, with….

10 left, 5 away and 5 home.

The home games have 2 currently ranked teams, PUke and Michigan. There’s also UCLA in there.

Road games are daunting: PUke, MSU, Oregon, Wisconsin and…..the U-Dub Huskies (who are not daunting)

So, assuming we lose all of those road games except in Seattle, it comes down to how we do at home. IF we can get to 7-3, we could go 4-6 and still have 11 wins. Winning just 4 of those games seems totally doable with some focus and effort. We certainly have the talent to win the home games , and win one on the road to get to 13-7.

Did I just hit a dispensary at 4:30 am here? Nope, nothing but a pot of Starbucks.

This team could completely go off the rails, BUT it wouldn’t shock me to see them win the next 2. At 7-3, that is quite the start to a an above .500 season.

Would you be "satisfied" with things playing out like you describe?
I remember when being a .500 club was viewed as failure since we used to be better than that. UK, PU, or even Louisville wouldn't accept that but Quinn and the powers that be seem quite content.

No.

To be clear, I’ve seen enough and want a change. Just pointing out that with our schedule it would take a real massive meltdown to be sub .500, and I’m skeptical that a change will be made.

Expectations here, have cratered to the point that sliding in on the right side of the bubble seems ok to people here. I agree with the OP.

You should buy a lottery ticket since you know what's going to happen.

Losing is never acceptable.

Pre-season picks like battle plans don't survive first contact with the opponent. But the expectations set for the program when Woodson was hired were to regularly compete for and win conference championships and every few years make a deep tournament run. We've done neither of those things really since a few of the Crean years, and shown no sign that we can do those things under the last two coaches. They had their fair chance to show what they can do and we have to assume that what we see is what it is. Miller wasn't getting it done, and Woodson isn't getting it done. No shame at least from my perspective, but it's time to move on.

I do not accept it, we have a winning record. We are 14 and 5 .
One slim road win vs a depleted borderline tourney team and he’s back. Where were you during those 20pt+ embarrassments?
We have the softest 14-5 record. Our record and +\- margins vs potential 2025 ncaa tourney teams are abysmal. We’re not even in “bubble discussions “ with the meat of our schedule still ahead. Think about that…we’re IU sitting at 14-5 and on the outside looking in. Should tell you our present record isn’t fooling anyone…but you.

I wish I shared your confidence that it would take a "massive meltdown" to slide down to .500. I see it as a coin toss (at best).
The most painful part is the lack of mental execution.
The mental is to the physical as 4 is to one.

That makes no sense. If I'm wondering you conclude that means "I know what's going to happen".
I'll sell you the winning numbers that I have right here...............

Note: the next 2 games are key. NU is 11-7, and that game is closer to a neutral site than a road game. Then we have Maryland.

If we go 2-0 in those, we can finish 3-7 and still be .500. If we lose to NU and Maryland that’s a whole ‘nother ball o wax.

Coach Woodson will not be fired during this season due to his legacy.
However, I feel a change will be made for next year. If the IU President really wants the winning feeling to continue (thank you Coach Cig), maybe Dolson can talk her into Chris Beard. Beard would say yes.
Beard would get the players, as well as get them to play the traditional IU way.

Maybe the best thing would be to announce now that he's retiring at the end of the season, and give the players and coaches a chance to finish strong to send him off on a high note (protecting his ego/legacy) while also making clear to players (current, portal, recruits) to not do anything rash, they might want to fight to play for IU next year.

Post arena renovation, NW has a pretty tough home crowd.

Never demand what was promised, never get it.

If Dolson had set the expectations as "Win the easy games, hope to be a bubble team by the end of the season" then maybe there wouldn't be anything to complain about. But that's not what he said the expectations were.

According to you ,we are 5 - 14.

Quote from an interview with Chris Beard 7 months after he got hired by Ole Miss.Sounds like the basketball coach all of us IU fans have been waiting for… and he KNOWS the IU culture the way it was.
“We aren’t different than any other organization — strive to be successful. In our world of college basketball, we’re trying to win a national championship…We want to have an identity, and we want to execute our identity on a daily basis. To do that, we have to first build it. We are in the stages of building our culture. Once we build it then we can begin to start defending it. (We are) trying to get all these people back under one umbrella. We want to unite the family. There’s a lot of history, a lot of tradition, and a lot of success in Ole Miss basketball. I think it’s important to get everybody connected to it involved.

That all so true phrase to me completely sums up the issues with Woodys teams.

We you have the highest NIL in the big ten if Dolson's expectation is to be a bubble team he is getting a horrible return on the boosters investment. Look Quinn and the boosters went all in on Woodson this year with a massive amount of money. He was given everything he needed and if the best he can do is be a bubble team then wow is all I can say because that is not good.

The BOT and a couple deep pocket donors may have been living in a bubble for the better part of 24 months but they won’t allow for a fanbase to completely bail on them by retaining Woody. The lost revenue and a half empty arena will be something they cannot ignore.
With the choice of the next coach coming at the conclusion of this season, I don’t want any input on candidates from anyone other than Dolson and Whitten. Period. Let them do their job. Buckner’s term ends this year and should have zero input on the next coach. He had his chance and chose nepotism over quality candidates.

Good post.

Not too many posters on this board follow the teachings of Coach Tyson:

Indiana won’t touch him. We are the Harvard of the Midwest.

Quinn's role is up this summer.

I think IU made a statement with its NIL budget this year. We'll get the coach we want. I hope it's Beard. McCollum would be interesting though.

I think quinn convinced the deep pockets Woodson can win but he just needs more money first. And they fell for it big time
