Following Monday's AI massacre, Nvidia has finally responded to DeepSeek's developments of cheaper and more energy-efficient LLMs, calling them an "excellent AI advancement" that complies with US technology export controls.
"DeepSeek's work illustrates how new models can be created" using the Test Time Scaling technique, the chip giant told Bloomberg in an emailed statement, adding, "leveraging widely available models and compute that is fully export control compliant."
Bloomberg's Ian King pointed out, "The statement also appears to dismiss some analysts' and experts' suspicions that the Chinese startup couldn't have made the breakthrough it has claimed."
OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman also responded to the DeepSeek development. On X, he called the R1 model "impressive, particularly around what they're able to deliver for the price."
"We will obviously deliver much better models and also it's legit invigorating to have a new competitor! we will pull up some releases," Altman said.

Not a MAGA member, but I agree, he (and Biden) should have enforced the law passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court. I heard Trump thinks his admin can broker a sale to a US firm--a pragmatic outlook, but the law is the law and should be enforced.

Once again, Biden is no longer POTUS, so stop with the yabut. This is a Trump thing.
I'm not excusing Trump's behavior, so I don't think it counts as a yabut to point out that this issue crosses the political divide.
And unlike you, I'm not a tribalist and I find political sniping between each side boring. Trump should enforce the law. Biden should have enforced the law. I think they and Schumer are wrong. I do think it is a national security issue.
I am in the anti-Trump tribe for sure, but have voted both parties, both for POTUS and down ballot. Once again, Biden is gone. I find it interesting that none of the MAGAs have touched this question...it would mean they would have to say Trump is not enforcing a law that protects our national security. Look right above this post for a person who considers China an enemy, but is strangely silent on Donny's reluctance.
