Damezi Anderson 14 pts and finally looked more comfortable

He's looking more like the player IU recruiting. Unconscious shooter. Those kind of guys can shoot against anyone when they have it. Hopefully he is getting that back.

Hard to argue with what works for Anderson. When the shot goes in...it goes in. I just cringe alittle because his shot trajectory seems flat. Love the confidence though!

I don't know that I've seen anyone in recent years get his shot off so fast. He catches the ball and is almost instantaneously going up for the shot. That's gotta be hard to defend. Of course, it needs to go in.

Comfortable on offense maybe, but his D is no where close to being trusted with heavy minutes in league play. He lacks the lateral quickness to guard on the ball and he is susceptible to mental lapses.

His awareness has improved over last year, which is expected. Overall I’m pleased with his progress but his D will keep his minutes down once competition ticks up.

He’s probably somewhere between 9-11 on the depth chart. He won’t play ahead of any of the guards and his behind Hunter, Smith and even Thompson if we go big with him at the 3

Watch the Troy tape. His D is getting better.

I did and he is getting better but still has a way to go

I was going to call you out in a post as I know you are on the D train....that he's been very encouraging.

I know he's a physical kid and kind of a bulldog, and I think he can get stronger.

But his flat shot has been pretty effective, especially with how quickly he's able to get it off... that's pretty useful.

I'm excited to watch him continue to grow. He reminds me of a Purdue player that isn't super athletic but is chippy, physical and can go on shooting streaks.

Unlike Hunter (who will also improve but right now hits a ton of rim on his shots), Anderson's shots have been splashes this year vs last.

He supposedly has a great work ethic and is a great kid. How can you not root for him?

Damezi Anderson as South Bend's All-Time leading scorer is finding his range and getting more comfortable. His catch and release shot is very quick on the trigger, and very difficult to defend when he is on a roll. Damezi is a good scorer but a very streaky shooter. If he starts hitting shots, feed the beast, and many more will follow! Wesley a top recruit also from SB Riley is likely watching how well Damezi fits in with Archie at IU. Wesley is another top target in the loaded 2021 class. Damezi has a good ability to rebound or find a hole in the defense and hit the mid-range shot with good touch. Unlike most players today who exclusively search out the 3pt shot or the drive all the way to the rim.

I was concerned before the season that Damezi might go the route of Curtis Jones. With the guys (Geronimo, Leal, Galloway) coming in next year and Hunter playing this year it seemed if things didn't go good for him he might look for a place he could get on the court. I am less concerned now but he has keep it going.

Franklin is getting extended time with Phin and Green. But when those 2 are back to full strength, I expect Franklin and Damezi will compete for minutes. Maybe it will be on a game situation how Archie uses those 2. It's kind of nice to see Archie may have options. Hope they stay sharp.

I missed this game and forgot to set it to record, but was happy to see and hear about Damezi's scoring. I've been very critical of him and even though it's early in his 2nd year, and pretty much written him off when he started off the year again looking lost out there. Here's hoping he is turning it around and will prove me wrong!

Damezi has a shot that a shooting coach would love to correct, but that won't happen at this point. A shooting coach at our local basketball academy used to say that a bad shot will leave you when you need it the most. A flat shot takes away a margin of error that other shooters have. He can make shots in volumes when he has the touch, but he isn't my first choice to take the last shot in a big game.

I look to see how consistent he can become with his shot. Shooting 1-3 one game and 2-4 the next. would be good from 3.

Looks at Basketball games from the 1970's and 1980's before the age of shooting clinics and everyone copying the same shooting form. These shooting coaches want you to believe their method is the only way to sell more sessions. Watch Jamaal Wilkes, Bob McAdoo. George McGinnis, Rick Barry FT, Larry Bird, Dave Debuschre, Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Tiny Archbold none of their forms would be acceptable today and all were great players.

Oh bullshit ...

Cherry picking a few players does not discount the value of having proper mechanics. You may think Birds mechanics were flawed because he raised the ball so high, but his feet and shoulders were always squared his elbow always straight and his release perfect.

You always wonder who is going to take that Olidipo jump.
Have to admit I might not have guessed Anderson.
But these jumps are what equals wins.

14 points in a career scoring game so far for Damezi Anderson who was a spark off the bench for IU. Damezi Anderson brings a mid range game.
Tough to say he can keep this up, especially against tougher competition, but can’t argue against the fact that the kid is vastly improved over last year. Hope he keeps improving because he could be a really good player for us.
