what if, and I'm just spitballimg here. But lets say said coach is hired, and well, he sets his own expectations. I dunno, let's say he says something like--" I'm here to win B10 titles..and national titles.."

Now what?

What unrealistic expectations you think I, or others have? What...competing for conference titles, and being relevant at the national level? That's unrealistic for a place.like Indiana? Shit bro, they expect that at Purdue.

Go play in traffic. Troll somewhere else.
So stupid...what coach is gonna say in an introductory PC..."yeah I hope to finish 4th or better"?...dumbass

Nobody said fans cause bad play. Fans cause coaches to not want to come here with unrealistic expectations and criticism.

Probably none. Doesn't mean he has to say he's coming to win B10 and national titles, either.

But your hero did. Amd now it's fans silly expectations that are the problem. Tell Mike on the ride home from Indy, we are sorry. Didn't mean to make the job hard.

IU was wrong for getting rid of Crean when they did. He brought the program back, and IU fans stabbed him in the back, and forced him out 1 season after winning the BIG10. I didn't always like his sideline antics, or the defense, or some of the things that happened in recruiting. But the man worked his ass off and brought it back to National relevance. He deserved a chance to right the ship. I believe the last 8 years, and probably 8 more, is nothing but Karma.
I will actually agree with you that in many ways Crean did not deserve to go out the way he did, and I admittedly had a ton of frustrations with them at the time. With that being said, there was a level of stagnation within the program at the time. Recruiting had begun to at best plateau, and a reasonable person could say decline. Saying that we both reasonably agree there, will you accept that I don’t believe cosmic forces are to be blamed for the ruin of our program? I am hoping the answer is yes, and with that in mind have the past two coaches met what you would consider reasonable expectations to keep the job?

I'm convinced LL isn't a real person ..................... At least I hope he isn't.
He's a homeowner, a former 6'2" 225 lbs HS LB, and whatever else dumbshit backstory he's put out there that I can't remember at the moment. I see he's reverted to one of his older handles.

He also didn't have to say he was here to win B10 and national titles.. But heeeee did. And somehow that's th3 fans fault. For what je said.

I have already answered this. No, they haven't. And I don't think the next few will either. Fans screwed themselves, and the program by getting rid of someone they should have been grateful for, and I think it's still fresh in coaching circles. That's why everyone says how great of a job it is, but nobody wants it who has already made a significant name for themselves. Not worth it to them.

Crean brought the program back as far as he could. Look at what he's done since then. We had seen his ceiling. It was time to bring in someone who could reach the next level, unfortunately (in retrospect) they hired Archie. At the time we did not have a President and AD who would do what it would take to get a nationally-recognized head coach.

For better or worse, Bob Knight set the standard. He's long gone, and we will probably never find his equal again. But we keep searching. You may call that unreasonable, others call it expecting excellence.

Just STFU already. I'm sick of hearing from the village idiot.

Ok. I just had to make sure I was clear on your point. With that being said, there is not a professional coach in the world that passes up a job SOLELY because one out of the past 5 coaches got what could be perceived as an unfair shake. Mind you that coach received all sorts of patience as he pulled the program from the dregs, but had clear deficiencies that were undeniable at the point of dismissal. Coaches have been done worse at lesser programs and still gotten their man. Let’s contextualize our past hires a bit. Archie at the time of hire was the hottest commodity on the coaching market regardless of revisionist history. Woody was pure politics after plan A and B pulled out for reasons that have nothing to do with the program itself. Lets be done with the sky is falling, whiny BS. Good lord it must be tiresome to keep coming on here to shit in the cookie jar.

You don't get it. If painter has this opinion, how many other coaches have the same opinion? How many other coaches have they talked to about it? It seems to be pretty well documented among coaches. IU is getting ready to hire another underwhelming coach(who could be very good) bit is not the splash people thought it would be....because the top 5 guys turned it down. Must be because of all the other things that sucks about the IU job. Oh wait...

If it is well documented then you should have no problem providing sources. The biggest move in the last several cycles was probably a jump from Arkansas to USC or Cincinnati to UCLA. The only one bigger was UK to Arkansas but that was because Cal was getting ahead of being fired. It isn’t IU striking out. It is the reality that many coaches don’t leave once they are at solid schools. People think it will always be splashy because people are emotional idiots. Your argument is an example of that and has no basis in fact.

Any coach who is afraid of the expectations of IU fans is not one we want. Any coach walking into an arena where 5 banners are hanging will know that the expectations are pretty damn high. Painter doesn't know anything about that.

Fool....you are just showing that you don't have any clue as to what you are talking about.
The only thing needed to back my claim is the proof of the last 4(including this one) coaching searches for IU, and the fact that a nationally prominent coach, from the same state as the school he is speaking about, said the same things I have said.
Dispute it if you want, it's already proven.

So nothing to refute the points that I made?

Bless your heart. That smooth brain just can’t adjust from your original argument , can it? Repeating it and calling names doesn’t make it any stronger, but I suppose that was my error in judgment for expecting more from you.
