They won’t agree to that though. They should put together a “Ohio River Battle”, and play the game at Freedom Hall every year, the same weekend. Benefits both programs as we have a lot of fans in Southern Indiana, and UK has a lot up in the Louisville area.
Keeps Crossroads as our “Indy event”. Adding an elite level home and home becomes difficult because we have the Acc and Big East matchups most years too. But I’d still love to have a home and home with a blue blood as well. It’d don nothing but help the resume.
Kentucky at Freedom Hall
ND or Butler at Crossroads
Top level ACC team road
Top level big East team home
Blue blood home (UCLA, Kansas, Louisville, Villanova, etc...)
that’s 5 of the 11 non conference games being crazy good. Fill the rest with varying levels of crap home games. Have to be careful of Maui type tourneys taking too many Assembly Hall games away though. Which is how the scheduling thing gets tough. Especially now that we have a 20 game conference schedule.
Dump the boring Crossroads Classic which is Indiana sponsored welfare for our in state competition and replace that event with bigger name teams. The Crossroads Classic is dumb for Indiana and Indianapolis, for the latter, you would hope to attract a team that has fans far enough away that they would stay in a downtown hotel overnight. As that event is set up, the fans don't even need to visit a restaurant on game day, they can drive home to eat.
