Conference predictions out.

Schedule was a joke last year too. We were barely beating the Morehead St’s of the world. Woodson is getting players who are for getting the bag not for the culture or winning.
Ballo played on Arizona teams who were consistently ranked in the top 5. Rice lead his school to the NCAAT for the first time since 2008. Luke Goode played on some very good Illinois team.

There needs to be a rule that says your next post can't be as dumb as your last post if you want to continue to have access to this forum. You're on a heater....and not in a good way.

Was this staff coaching them last year?

Painter said in a interview the other day with Hummel that the NIL has been nothing but a positive for Purdue! He stated you can tell in less than 5 minutes if a kid is into winning and getting a education (priorities of the Purdue)
or filing his back pocket, and not willing to work to earn it. Chances are he is not committed to the program, and will exercise his lack of success buy going into the Portal! Painter also said, he has the most talented and deep team he has ever seen at Purdue. Note to Victorlittleboy: You can EDIT your own statements, but do not EDIT others input! You may not like what they state, but it is total unethical to revise other statements made by others!
As I've said, this is a huge year for PU/Painter. He's "painted" himself into a corner with NIL, so for his and your program's sake, he better be right. I think you got some good players in last years class, but human nature and the current climate say guys are going to look for situations that profit them and it's a double-edged sword: have a bad year and guys might jump ship for that reason, but have a good one and guys may be looking for a pay day. We've always known that PU attracts, let's call it, "a bit different" personality, and maybe all these guys will be different and stick around and stay committed to PU when they could be making substantially more elsewhere.... but I doubt it. Edey got paid OK, and I assume this year, Braden is. But as guys like TKR, Loyer, Heide, Colvin, Jacobson, Harris and Cox either show out, or grow frustrated with their role/production, in the rest of the college bball world, many would be looking for greener pastures. For your sake, and Matt's, you better hope he truly has recruited guys who are a "bit different", because if you have several leave, your ability to reload using NIL is going to be severely hampered.

Matt put a positive spin on things in an interview. Whoopee. Doesn’t change the fact your recruiting has fallen off badly.
Fallen off? Purdue has 13 filled ships this year and next. I think you have to wait and see what happens in 2026! If Painter can take the 425 rated player in high school and turn him into 2x NPOY, top 10 NBA pick, it seems Paint knows what he wants. By the way IU is going to need 6 to 8 recruits for next year, you have 1 commit, is your recruiting fallen off badly?

PU’s recent recruiting has not been good. Sorry.

Post Natty game...Luke Ertel and Antione West... Yikes???!!!!! Everyone's just lining up to go play for Painter.

Or maybe...players and their families know that the last 2 years were an Edey induced "freak" accident. And the NIL/Portal rhetoric is alienating players like Sisley, Haralson, Mullins, Koehler, etc...

They'll probably get Reynolds in 26...but if they haven't seen any sort of recruiting bump from the Natty game by now...doubt it ever happens. Especially if Painter keeps doubling down on his old school talk.

This idea that every 400 level rated recruit that Painter takes going forward is going to turn into the national player of the year is effing asinine. Edey landed in Painter's lap because he failed to land Dickinson, Kalbrenner, etc. He's literally a statistical outlier that you'll never see in college basketball again for the rest of our lives.

And are you that quick to forget that Painter lost to North Texas, St. Peter's, and Fairleigh Dickinson in the three consecutive tournaments prior to last season recruiting the same level of kids he's settling on now? Only this time they're not going to have a 7'4 behemoth to bail them out.

Woodson will either be gone or have a bunch of money to buy good players in the portal. He also tends to land a highly ranked recruit in the spring- see Reneau, Mgbako, and Tucker.

Robbie Hummel said it best on a podcast, I like IU, BUT you have to question their squad construction! Most of the college experts where saying the same thing last year. Painter coaches a college team and wins. Woodson has had over 20 games in two years where he has had his A$$ handed to him! So CONGRATS on getting players to the league, the problem is none of those players won anything playing college ball! GOOD LUCK! DUMB??
That FF really went ro your head...Congrats on getting there again...

Some 40 years later.

We were talking about developing players. Seems relevant to mention getting guys to the NBA.

THIS roster is really good. Woody ****s this up? Gotta go

And you seem to forget that IU in the last 21 years didn't even make the tournament half the time, hard to lose to anyone when your home watching from the cheap seats. And hells bells, that was with 5* Langford, Lander, Schifino, Jackson-Davis, Reneau, and Mgbako and others! IU still runs one of the best retirement programs for so-so coaches! How many 5* kids have Purdue had on their squads? Since Painter has been at Purdue , he has produced 5 All-Americans, IU 3. IU has had a lot of highly rated talent in the last 20 years!

Ain’t no way in hell a Mike Woodson coached team is winning 23 or 24 games during the regular season, even with this cake schedule. You’re living in fantasyland my friend…
Based on your lack of basketball intelligence. Keep that same energy during the season, when you are proven wrong.

Sleepers has a segment on this. Are the Boilers here panicking yet over their NC recruiting bump? Lose Catchings (who it sounds like is looking good at BYU), get a 2 star and a 3 star and then lose a kid to NW? As I said, Painter's painted himself into a corner with NIL and it's going to be very hard to reverse course and start hitting donors up. Big year for Matty P, but not sure anyone would have foreseen recruiting being this bumpy in WL.
Catchings tried to get guaranteed playing time. Painter said no, so he opened his recruitment. After he didn't get what he wanted when looking around, he tried to come back and Painter said no thanks. We could have had Catchings still if we wanted, but Painter wants guys that WANTS to be there.

You’re not regurgitating the Painter PR spin accurately.

And the fundamental issue is he didn’t want to play for Purdue. That is the key to recruiting and Matt botched it.

Stfu and go away. Full of sh!t.

Elite 8 is a deep run. We easily have the most talented roster in the B1G and the media knows it. Big gap between IU and the #2 team. But picked 2-5 in most predictions. Tells you a lot.
Sleepers did an interview with Evan Miyakawa and he rated the Hoosiers as the 8th most talented roster, but has them 17th in his predictions, saying the downgrade factors in the coach's previous performance with prior rosters.

Decommitted June 6, took visits and committed to BYU on 6/18. Doesn't sound like he was spending much time trying to get back onto PU's roster, or that it took him very long to find what he wanted at BYU. Big year for MP. I'm guessing there are going to be at least a few guys who decide they don't want to be in WL anymore after this year, and look forward to your spin on that also!

You do realize that ESPN has West the #76 recruit for 2025, yet the IU recruit (Sisley) is rated #92? Hmmmm!
IU hasn't won back to back B10 titles and went to national championship game.

And while we're happy to have beaten out Purdue for Sisley, despite not doing the things I mentioned above...unlike Purdue, we're not overly pleased with only having Sisley committed at this point.

Its not hard for anyone outside Hamelot.

If they're really good again this year, the guys that make them that good will 1)want to get paid more money, because their market value will command it. Maybe they have the money for all of that, maybe they don't? 2)Cause some of the guys that didn't play much in games to look for situations where they can play more.

If they're back to being solid, but not nationally relevant, it doesn't change number 2, it just makes it all less expensive.

They're going to lose players, like everyone does nowadays.

He called Painter back the next day after asking for his release. Painter said no. I went back and looked at the full story again, and apparently he waffled several times before asking for his release. When he asked to come back Painter said no because it was an ongoing thing and he didn't want someone upset that he decided to come to Purdue potentially upsetting the entire bench. Chemistry is very important to Painter.

That’s one side of the story.

This is Brian Neubert’s version of the story. Neubert is a mouth piece for the staff.
