Conference predictions out.

Yeah, I think Braden had a good game vs us in the last game, but the prior 3, my recollection is he had pretty poor games. I think Galloway in particular bothered him with his size. Hoping for (much) more of the same with Rice and Carlyle added to the mix. There was a post from someone (Rothstein?) that Carlyle has been the biggest surprise on both sides of the ball. Hope that's true!
Only for people who haven't been paying attention. I said months ago that Carlyle could possibly be the best player on this team.

Wow, Carlyle probably is doing good if he is going against Cupps, the best defensive guard in the country!
I know this is hard for you, but Rice is going to be our starting PG or 1. That would make Carlyle a 2. Cupps is a 1, so that would make Galloway a 2 and hence that would mean Carlyle is probably generally going against Galloway and that's a very good matchup. Cupps should be fine as a backup PG, which is at best the role he should've had last year. Remind me again, why are you here?

And going against Cupps every day in practice probably would make him better...for what its worth.

From all reports, Cupps is a guy that gets after it pretty much all the time. There's value in going against that every day, even if Carlyle physically out matches him.

he's just another GBI dork over here trolling for attention. You know...another Stuart Smalley. As soon as he posts here, he runs back and posts on GBI. Will take a couple early season PU losses to swat these mosquitoes....but, the killing freeze is coming.

He underachieved. Easily had 2 of the top 5 players in the league. He will underachieve again.
Lmao. Did you forget both players missed significant games and played hobbled. I mean context matters. I mean MP lost to that team twice and lost in the first round…isn’t that underachieving? Don’t you have a Twitter post from DD to look at or something?

He's dumb. He lacks basketball knowledge. Don't waste your time or breath. He's the same dumbass that will nitpick stupid shit when they win by 30...he's a waste.

Considering Woodson already has a 2nd place finish with a much lesser roster top to bottom, this just seems like a lazy (and dumb) comment.
A 2nd-place finish in a weak B1G and a Round of 32 appearance in three seasons is nothing to celebrate. Nor are the numerous ass-kickings IU has experienced under MW, including multiple drubbings by powerhouses Nebraska and Penn State. How is that not underachieving? If you can offer a reasonable, valid argument that MW has been successful at IU, I'm all ears.

Who said anything about celebrating? Who said anything about being successful? Literally the only thing I said was that line of reasoning was dumb. I have no interest in discussing anything else with a whiner such as yourself. If you want pity...go talk to a mirror. Or a shrink.

I'm sorry that logic and facts upset you. I sincerely apologize.

I did not say IU was bad! Purdue still has a 7-2 and a 7-4 guy, so maybe we should wait and see how they play. UCONN had 3 pros on their team, does anyone in the BT have more than 1? You must of not had watched Smith when he played at Illinois against their 6-6 Pro guard and 6-7 Pg? He was special! Purdue has history on their side, recent history, not decades ago history. Purdue has averaged over 30-6 over the last few years. Of the last 11 losses in the last two years only 2 losses were double digit! IU with 3 pros the last couple years has had over 20 double digit losses and almost half of them were over 20! Smith is getting his accolades because he WINS! Purdue ran away with B10 the last two years! Purdue has 3 starters back from a F4 team, IU has 2 starters back! Woody, is he up to it? I think IU's weak non-conf scheduling says they have doubts!

Get the F*** off my lawn and go back to GBI.

Logic and facts? Lol
He lacks basketball knowledge. He isn't smart enough to understand the challenges presented when you take over a team with little to no back court talent. Keeping TJD was crucial to their short term success, but also slowed down the process of flipping the roster. Again, when you lack basketball knowledge, and your life is as pathetic as his, you are bound to blame the coach, rather than actually considering the factors that went into the subpar performance.

Well he has a great back court this year along with a front court that could be the best in the country. Anything short of a B1G title and a deep tourney run will be an epic fail.

Epic? Lmao. We are picked 2nd - 4th by media and people like you. What’s a deep run? S16? Final4? What is your pick? You guys already set the bar low for woody this season and now you say its a must he outdoes your expectations.

Elite 8 is a deep run. We easily have the most talented roster in the B1G and the media knows it. Big gap between IU and the #2 team. But picked 2-5 in most predictions. Tells you a lot.

I like our schedule for an easier path to win the conference.

I would agree that in order for a tournament run to be “deep” it’s at least elite eight or better. No one thinks sweet 16 is a deep run.
However, the tourney is also a crap shoot as far as matchups go.

I will say that I expect IU to be a highly seeded team, which should help. My gut tells me that my predictions for this season should be a little lower than my expectations for this season, but our talent should afford us a very high floor either way.

With our roster strength, ask yourself why the media guys are picking us 2-4. If you answer out loud you’re not a “real IU fan”.

Not what I’m saying. I’m saying everyone is saying contradicting things. They all state IU is picked 2-6 but all of a sudden the season is a failure if IU doesn’t win the big ten and make a deep run when they aren’t picking us to do that. So which is it? Beat the pundits predictions or accept them?

There is a difference between expectations and predictions. They aren’t the same thing.

Perform to our talent level. That is the expectation. Win the league outright and at minimum reach the Elite 8.

There is a reason we aren't the slam dunk consensus #1 B1G team and a FF favorite.

Would it have anything to do with the unknown? Like...how quickly will the team mesh with 3 new starters? How will the offense run differently with the influx of guard talent? Or...is it all because of the coach because you aren't smart enough to consider real factors? You are going to look so stupid very soon, and I can't wait.

How do you know, they both are rated a lot higher than Zach was! Zach did not walk in and set the world on fire! Painter develops players, Woody buys his players! Who is going to play center next year for IU? Purdue stands to lose 1 player, IU 6 to 8 at minimum are gone. Purdue has 5 players who can play center, all should be back next year, IU is gone go shopping!
"Woody buys his players'? --Oh, you mean NIL? Pretty sure everyone does this; well, that is almost everyone.

Who plays C for IU next year? Dunno. Couldn't give two fuks. But I do know who will do.so this year: Omar Ballo.

PU has 5 players who can play C? Ok. And? Wtf does that even mean?

Painter does a very good job of developing. But he's not a coach that really gets you ready for rhe next level; 9 guys under MP have played in the NBA. Less than 2 players every 5 years. Woodson in 3 seasons has helped put JHS, TJD, Ware , in the NBA.

Just so much dumb

Haha. How long did it take coach Cig to get his many new players to mesh? Or throw a new QB in a new system? Yes, it is all because of the coach and this is much harder for fb.

Who said it will take Woodson longer? IU football was picked to finish 17th in the conference. Thanks for proving my point.

It took a Dan Dakich rant to get that IU team to play well. About the only thing that Dakich has to do with this conversation.

In the hands of a good coach, this team would be a shoe-in for conference champion.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. The caliber of the coaching drops them at least 3 spots.
Hmm. To me the term “good coach” is really open to interpretation. One person could feel that every coach in the conference is “good” and another person something totally different.

Either way, the coach matters. I think it’s reasonable to say that if IU and Purdue flipped rosters that many people here would feel that Painter would do well with IU’s players. How would IU fans feel going into this season with Woodson and the PU roster?

Is this the thread that had the screenshot of conference coaches ranked that had Woodson last? Obviously some Twitter thing (if that’s what it was) means nothing, but it’s fair to say that Painter deserves to be rated the best coach in the B10. Especially if it is qualified on coaching a roster to compete in the league.

Woodson does have something to prove this year. There’s more to the job than just coaching, but certainly he has a pretty loaded roster.

Robbie Hummel said it best on a podcast, I like IU, BUT you have to question their squad construction! Most of the college experts where saying the same thing last year. Painter coaches a college team and wins. Woodson has had over 20 games in two years where he has had his A$$ handed to him! So CONGRATS on getting players to the league, the problem is none of those players won anything playing college ball! GOOD LUCK! DUMB??

Woody can't recruit and therefore has to have the billionaire donors buy him a roster each Spring. Constant roster turnover is not a valid excuse.

So nobody but IU is buying a roster. What about Arkansas? UK? UNC? Duke? They not paying anyone? This is really the first year they have. Kansas and Illinois actually spent more from reports. Are they bad coaches?
