I don't get the over-the-top love for Beard. Sure, he's a good coach and would do well at IU, but I don't think he's head and shoulders above many of the other (realistic) names that are being bandied about. I'd be more inclined to take a real hard look at McCollum or TJO or Byington. The one problem with McCollum and Byington is them being just one year into their current jobs. That's got to make it tough to make a jump, like we saw with May.

I like byington more than beard even before the game. There are some good options out there that don't have baggage
He’s as close to a sure thing as is reasonably available this hiring cycle.
The same cannot be said about any of the other guys you listed. They are all flyers to a varying degree.
I would take TJO if the administration simply can’t see their way to doing the right thing and hiring Beard.
Didn't he also party with Kavanaugh? I heard stories, but they are only rumor unless you can corroborate.
McCollum has never made it to the NCAA tourney. Beard and him aren’t in the same stratosphere.

But you said Beard isn’t head and shoulders above him in terms of CV. Of course he is.
Might McCollum end up having as good or better career? Sure. But as of now, they aren’t close.
