Chairman of Joint Chiefs thought Trump might attempt a legit coup

In yet another book excerpt about the absurdity of the end of the Trump presidency, Mark Milley was genuinely concerned that Trump might try to hold onto power unconstitutionally:

"They may try, but they're not going to f**king succeed," Milley told his deputies...he told subordinates: "You can't do this without the military. You can't do this without the CIA and the FBI. We're the guys with the guns."

Thank God his worries were unfounded, but it's pretty darn crazy that these conversations even needed to happen.

Now you can go back to worrying about the FBI, the CIA, and the military. You know, the guys with the guns.

None of them are credible. That's what you have not figured out yet. CNN lied to you repeatedly over the past 4 years...repeatedly. Their ratings have cratered since the Bad Orange Man left and they have not had him to counter program for the past 6 months. People did not go to CNN for news, they went to CNN because they were the "We Hate Trump" network, and like Fox services conservatives with red meat to lap up, CNN is throwing you what you want to hear as well.

"OMG, we almost had a coup and this one General said that was not going to happen because they had the guns" (threatening to turn the military/FBI/CIA on the American people is a-okay though).

Yep....."Pulitzer Prize winning journalists"....except the Pulitzer Prize is now trash, thanks to the corruption of the MSM.

MSM like fox, newsmax, and oan. Yea, they're definitely trash propaganda news.

Ok, one more time. It's not his book. He's quoted in a book written by two Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters.

And there will be many more books about this, and Trump is going to look bad in every one of them.

Had Trump succeeded in coercing just one key state election official to say, "hold on, there was fraud," and/or if just one state had refused to certify the election results, there likely would have been a domino effect. We came perilously close to a complete shit show.

Have at it. I've got to get to work.

Wow....you're employed. Didn't expect that.

That is, "why don't you love political generals"?

Maybe his time would have been better spent figuring out what the f we were going to do in Afghanistan.
Maybe you should contribute a fraction of what he has to this country.

BTW, no change/updates on my dad's health, so you will have to hold off on your comedy routine for awhile longer. He's still alive and kicking, as well as liberal, and smarter than you'll ever be. I'll let you know of any changes.

Also in the book, General Milley told aides the US was facing a "Reichstag moment" because Trump was "preaching the gospel of the Fuhrer."
What would the nation’s highest-ranking military officer, the principal military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council, know about military history to draw analogies to Nazi-like behavior?

He's obviously a hack, with degrees from diploma mills like
Princeton (bachelor’s degree in political science),
Columbia (master’s degree in international relations),
U.S. Naval War College (master's degree in national security and strategic studies), and
MIT (masters in National Security Studies).

He never even WENT to any prestigious schools such as Trump University or the Mr. Pillow Academy.

Obviously not a SCHOLAR.

Some of it is. Particularly the evening people who generally are commentators, they definitely have a partisan position they are pushing. Anyone viewing those networks should view them through that filter. Just like people like Cuomo and Joy Reid have their filter.

If you thought that literal American Hitler was in charge of the country and you saw what was happening on Jan. 6, would you have stood by? General Milley stood by. His actions do not match his rhetoric. His rhetoric does resonate with people such as yourself though and that is the point after the fact.

In June 2020 when he was probably uttering things like this, he was being roundly criticized for appearing with Trump at Lafayette Square and people calling for his resignation. Now all those same people are saying what a hero he is. Funny that. You can be "smart" and still be a political animal.

Don’t you know that this is a concerted effort by his former aids just because they think he’s a bad person? Just like the effort by the entire world to participate in a global lockdown over COVID 19, so it would ruin the American economy and Trump would lose the 2020 election. So you see, it’s not that Trump is really a bad person it’s that most of the world thinks he’s a bad person, because they don’t want a republican to have any success.

This is my interpretation of most of the right’s narrative of how the world sees things. Especially, the libtards and MSM.

If you read his concerns, you realize that he did not "stand by". He was focused, sucessfully, on completely preventing any military support for the Jan 6 events, which he saw coming. He led a group planning to resign should they be forced to rally military support. He wanted added security and preparation, sure, but Trump prevented that.

He wanted it to be crystal clear that the insurgents were a nutjob consortium of Nazi, proud boys, militia wannabes, and Trump rumpswabs with no support by any facet of the military.

Milley is an incompetent self-promoting Trump-Hating jackass. He was commanding officer at Ft Hood when Major Hassan committed mass murder. The Army had many indications that Hassan was a nut, but the Army looked the other way because Hassan was a Muslim. Then the Army Command tried to say the mass murder was workplace violence as it first denied a Purple Heart to Milley’s troops who were victims of that slaughter. After January 6, the federalized national guard who were guarding the Capitol got to sleep on the concrete floors in a parking garage in January while Milley sat his fat ass in his cushy Pentagon office ranting about WHITE RAGE! and a Trump coup. Then Milley ordered investigations into Trump sympathizers in the ranks.

General Milley makes me want to vomit.

I prefer my Generals to be Annapolis or West Point grads not degree collectors

He also doesn't have a Masters from MIT.

Feel the same way about 10 ex-SecDefs who felt the need to weigh-in on Jan 4 against the military becoming involved to preserve the election result? This revelation from Milley is absolutely no surprise whatsoever for those of us paying attention to the clear message from Trump all along that he wouldn't agree to accept defeat.

Oh, so suddenly Milley is a POS, despite a reputation and credentials you can only dream about? Do you feel the same about General Kelly, General Mattis and General McMaster? You and I both know that, in your mind, their real "sin" is that they dared to take on that reckless and miserable excuse for a president.

You make me sick.

He would officially change the name of our country if he could. I'm sure he thinks UST has a nice ring to it. Maybe having all citizens kiss Trump's ring would suffice for him.

Correct. Graduates of that program are termed "Fellows" and it has no masters degree as there was no thesis component. My mistake.

Just Princeton, Columbia, and U.S. Naval War College. Still no Trump University expertise or Mr. Pillow Medal of Excellence. Hack, obviously.

The possible alliance of Jesusland and Trumpland is concerning.

Are you saying Milley’s quotes are made up? I think the real story here is that a senior military official took the idea that a sitting US President might incite a coup seriously enough to plan for it.

That’s a pretty big deal and no amount of right wing gas lighting is going to soften that. As long as his power was threatened, Trump was - and is - a threat to our democracy.

Donald Rumsfeld went to Princeton too.

Sitting in the right chairs does not impress me as an accomplishment. The report about the U S Navy was a shocker. Of all the things the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs has on his plate, understanding WHITE RAGE! on January 6 is way down the list. The military has no domestic role to play about that anyway.

Worrying about a Trump coup says more about Milley and typical beltway bullshit
than it says about Trump.

Exactly. Milley feared (and even expected) that the POTUS was going to improperly demand military support for his planned Turd Reich. Milley forged alliances with others in the administration to plan to resign en masse should that be forced upon them. A "reverse Saturday night massacre". It's great that it did not come to that. Maybe Lex Loser's henchmen smelled out the "disloyalty" in advance.

Turd Reich...that's a good one :)

They're trying to distract from the fraud. It won't work.

Oh wow. That's ludicrous.

Even Barr (Trump's buddy) found no significant election fraud, but you and the Newsmax reporter you're promoting think someone is reporting on this to distract from election fraud that doesn't even exist. Next time, pick a good one,

Here's Trump's statement on the subject:

"If I was going to do a coup, one of the last people I would want to do it with is General Mark Milley," Trump said in a statement issued by his political action committee, Save America.

Sure sounds like Trump thought at least a little bit how he would do things "If I was going to do a coup....". Otherwise, how else do those words even come out of his mouth?

Maybe this isn't entirely fair to you, but it's getting to the point where it seems like complete and utter BS that anyone who veers even slightly off Trump's "I'm awesome and should still be president train" is labeled a moron, idiot or incompetent.

At this point I don't think anything will convince the most ardent Trump ass kissers that he's a fraud and a large-scale grifter, which he has been for the better part of the last three decades. Again, at this point, anyone who willfully takes Trump at his word, or supports the Big Lie is just telling everyone around them that they're insanely gullible, not all that bright and a complete idiot.

He’s a moron because he thinks his soldiers should read Ibrahim X Kendhi

I don't see the downside of having a well-read and educated military, even if you don't think you agree with everything they're reading. Critical thinking and different points of view are a good thing.

That said, keep your eye on the ball here.

Milley thought about the future of our republic and made a decision to defend it. That makes CO.H want to vomit.

I honestly can't figure out what there is to be mad at Milley for. It really looks like nothing more than reactionary Trump defensiveness.

And that’s essentially what Milley said. He reads Mao, Marx and Lenin but he’s not a communist. Fine I get that, never hurts to be well read.

Are Mao, Marx and Lenin on the military’s reading list?

And can we assume Milley disagrees with Kendhi and his ideaology just like he disagrees with those fine communist fellows since he used them as an example?

Milley has proved he's a suck-up and incompetent. He's responsible for the botched closing of bases in Afghanistan.
