The first CFP rankings for the 2024 college football season will be released tonight at 7p Eastern (ESPN).

I will be watching and waiting for Indiana's position to be revealed. INDIANA's position!

If this is a dream, I don't ever wanna wake up.

Go Hoosiers!

Make it make sense. For bball we tune into Selection Sunday as a fringe bubble team hoping an analyst just argues something on our behalf but knowing full well, we won't get our name called in a field of SIXTY-FOUR. Yet football of all sports selects just 12 and we are all but a lock to be included in this week's initial rankings.

At times it is just incomprehensible what this team is doing!
I never thought I would see anything like this in my lifetime.
I was hoping for six and a bowl game!
Now we are talking about the CFP - mind BLOWN!!

I really hope IU is ranked too low tonight. I want to keep that chip on their shoulders and remind them that they are going to have to prove it on the field and win out to gain the respect they deserve. I want OSU to be big favorites in a couple weeks with everyone on the GameDay panel picking OSU (okay, Corso and McAfee like IU too much). I think the underdog role in these last several weeks and then the playoffs is just where IU wants to be. We all know if the opponent, regardless of who it is, gets IU's "A" game they are going to struggle to try and beat us.

Agree. And conventional thinking is it takes much longer to build a football team than a basketball team, and the basketball team has all the advantages in the world to attract talent.

Cignetti > Woodson
Woodson isn't in the same galaxy as Curt Cignetti. If Indiana wins big in basketball this year, it's because they have an abundance of high end talent, not Woodson's coaching.

Can anyone seriously imagine Woodson winning with two star recruits??? He has to have 4* and 5* kids to win. Cignetti is a top level coach who can beat you with his and then turn around and take yours and beat his...That ain't Woodson.

I'm so excited for tonight. The next two hours are going to feel like Saturday mornings while waiting for kickoff. I just want it to get here.

Honestly, I think we could fall anywhere from #1 to on the bubble. #1, you say?! Yes. Hear me out: if the CFP Committee truly sticks to what they claim—ignoring preseason rankings—then there’s a real argument to be made for us at #1. I won't go in to the details of these arguments, but if you scroll college football twitter like me, check ESPN's FPI and SOR and on and on, you are familiar with them. That said, Oregon’s win over OSU is huge, and based on what they’ve done, they’re obviously likely to snag the #1 spot. If that’s the case, then the highest we could be is #5.

And no, I don’t think this is just some crimson-colored glasses bias. I think #5 is genuinely possible, for the reason I mentioned above. Realistically, though, I’m expecting us to land somewhere between #6 and #8. If we’re lower than #8, I’m not going to be thrilled. And if we’re behind PSU? I’ll admit, I’ll start worrying a bit about our chances if we end up with an 11-1 record and they do as well. I know all the predictions say we're almost certainly in at 11-1, but I just can't get myself to that point of sureness.

But all of that said, I’m honestly just really enjoying the fact that we’re even in this position! Regardless of the rankings, I couldn’t be happier about where we are right now. As of today I'm officially going to the game in Columbus, and am extremely excited to be checking that off the bucket list.

Beat Michigan.

With this new system and after an historical season, if IU fans get robbed of the opportunity to get to Lucas Oil, and hosting a home playoff game, and a cool bowl (quarterfinals), it’s a travesty. Hopefully we get the opportunity for at least one of those things.

Cig needs a history lesson on how Ohio St will do dirty things. Starting with the 60s bs that got us the death penalty. The petition to go to the 2020 big ten championship game. The NCAA rules change from the Oregon game and on and on… will be a monumental task to get a win at that sh!ty place. Throwing water bottles on the opposing team. They need to go down.

there acting like beat Mich and Purdue were in. Would like to believe that but we can't get blasted by OSU. not sure if would play out that way if we go up there and shit the bed.

I'm sure the thought is IU fans will be happy just to be listed in the top 12. And I am very happy about that; however, why not put IU above the four one loss teams because they can always bump IU down (or even out I suppose) if IU loses a game. The Hoosiers need to run the regular season table and put a hurting on the committee in the process.

100% agree. That BYU 8/9 swap is huge whether that ends up being us or not. The difference between playing at Tennessee or in Bloomington is astronomical. It would be a dang shame to not get a bowl or a home game after this season. Just gotta keep winning I guess.

Remember Ciggi’s words…”never satisfied”. Chip or no chip on the shoulders, underdogs or over-dogs, never daunted we remain. We’ll be fine either way.

Are you saying you'd prefer a (now kinda meaningless) bowl game, over a road playoff game?

No not at all. I'm all in now on CFP. I just think possibly having to play on the road in a very hostile sellout crowd against a higher rated team like Tennessee or Texas or even Penn State is not much of a reward for our greatest season ever.

I was thinking the same,of course they won’t admit that.
They going to make more money playing at 100,000+ stadium at Tennessee or lil ole Memorial Stadium?
Dumb. Ticket revenue for a single game is a pimple on their nose. And frankly, I’d be surprised if the CFP gets that revenue anyway, but I could be wrong about that.

EDIT: I am wrong about that. The money goes to the CFP which then distributes it evenly among all of the conference members of the Home team.
