Brad Stevens: 10 yrs 200M...come on down....

Why not try to go after someone like Steve Kerr? I’m sure Kerr would not be interested because he can practically get any job in the NBA after his success at GS and the Olympic team. But, I kind if see the writing on the wall of the end if his GS tenure especially when Curry retires. He’d be a good college coach I’m sure and probably can recruit the best shooters!

Kerr is garbage without Curry.

This is probably the best timing we’ve ever had for Brad. Kids are grown. Son is a walk on at ND. And with the NIL and portal recruiting is really just a transaction now and he could do most of his recruiting without ever leaving Bloomington. The things he hated about recruiting before are mostly gone.

That said, it’s a long shot. Good chance Dolson hires Dusty.

I think many are forgetting that his wife seemed to have made the decision last time and she seems to see herself as Boston (nationally) and Butler (locally) royalty, with zero inclination to take any chance at changing that legacy...

Unhappy wife, unhappy life...

Brad ain't comin' (in my opinion)

He’s the dream coach. I don’t believe he comes at any price? What do you know that says he will come?

I don’t know that he will come. I know that he was interested last time and things didn’t work out for various reasons. Some of those reasons will no longer be in play.

Personally I would not bet money that he will be the next coach but anyone that says there is no chance is wrong. An offer will be made and if he ultimately decides he doesn’t want the job Dusty will be next in line and will take the job.

Do we really think Dusty May is going to bolt from Michigan after one season? It's not as if the IU job is objectively better than the Michigan job.

One job I don't see someone leaving is Auburn: top-5 team already in place, very good NIL, easy xfers, and a good thing going with their fan support. All we can really offer is being a basketball school, which isn't much, if anything. Bruce would have to want to be a state hero or something to take on the risk of coming here. He might, but that would be a bit surprising.

Would be on my list IF my team was looking for a coach. Steven’s isn’t going to leave Boston now that they’ve won a title. Matta would be a good choice if his health wasn’t on the decline.

I would put Pearl on the "too old" list also. Otherwise we'll be doing this all over again in 3-4 years.

The GM of the Boston Effing Celtics doesn't resign to coach a college basketball team. I know you all know this, but some here seem willfully obtuse and it makes the rest of us look like morons by association. Cut it out.

As a UK fan I cringe too when Ky fans are talking about the next coach. I loved all the Pat Riley stuff in the day.

I'm not sure how wired in Seth Davis is, but he has to know SOMETHING in order to make a statement like that. This is the only thing that gives me a remote hope that it would still be possible.
Scott keeps in touch with Brad. I'm sure he knows where Brad stands. That's all we can ask Scott to do. I personally don't think about Brad as an option, I don't know why he would leave the GM job of the best team in the NBA and defending champs.

I think there are plausible reasons he would...and some of them revolve specifically around a job like IUs, and a couple are actually specific to IU.

But there are many more reasons, and more likely reasons, that he wouldn't.

If anyone can do it, it's the Scott/Pam combo. They got it done with Cignetti and he continues to thank them publicly. I suspect we need all the other influences around the bball program to let these two do their thing in this process, regardless of the coach we're pursuing.

100%

Metaphorically...they need to be able to show IU basketball as a big, wide open, blank canvas. With all the necessary tools, supplies, and support, for any candidate to create what they want. And without people looking over the next candidates shoulder, telling him how and what he needs to create.

Obviously its a different type of sell job. But I think making Stevens feel like the above is absolutely true, would be pretty important to him.

One lingering hope is that Brad, to his core, is a builder. Brad the Builder! And that his professional resume supports that. Built Butler up, left for the challenge of coaching the Celtics. Right sized/Built the Celtics up as a coach, "left" that to become their GM. Built the Celtics up to the best team and franchise in all of sports... Now, maybe he's ready for the IU challenge, finally? It was an important challenge for him at one point in his career. It was important enough to him 4 years ago that he engaged with Dolson on the job. Maybe he feels like he "can't do anything more" in the NBA, and building Indiana basketball would be his "last, and greatest" goal or accomplishment.

Its fun speculating on it. Obviously its far fetched. But there are nuggets of dynamics, that aren't absurd, that do apply for Stevens and the IU job.

I'm not about to take anything Seth Davis says as serious journalism. This was back in April and was just pure speculation.
I don't take any of the singular reports on Stevens interest as anything to get too excited about. But when you combine all the various quotes, stories, etc... throughout the years...its hard to discount that the man pays attention, and has often had interest, in coaching at IU. Its likely that ship has sailed, and/or the timing just isn't right. But who knows?

Nobody knows what Stevens might do. His contract is up after this NBA season. Until he is extended by the Celts then anything can happen. This off season seems that the timing stars could be aligned. What if he wants to coach again. It seems he stepped down as coach in Boston because he felt players needed a new voice. That really isn't an issue at college like in the NBA because players come and go rather quickly. Not saying he is beating down the door to come to IU but it's not zero .pct. chance.

There we go! Another piece to the puzzle!

-Boston contract up...why doesn't he have extension yet?
-Already has accomplished the pinnacle with Boston...he's left his other jobs for different "challenges"
-Managing a college program is now closer to managing an NBA program than its ever been
-The NIL and Portal dynamics could appeal to Stevens nerdy, analytical side, in some ways
-Kids are now off to college...is New England "home" any more? Son is at ND, daughter in Virginia
-Maybe he would want to coach his son? Obviously would be easy for him to transfer to IU?
-Coaching IU childhood dream
-IU clause in Butler contract
-Can't think of anything that would be a greater accomplishment for his Legacy in Indiana than rebuilding the IU program, and winning a natty or two. Heck, he could become the AD after a successful 10 year run or so...a la Barry Alvarez. IU coach, Indiana AD, Big Ten Commissioner, etc... Lots of legacy building opportunities...
-Might have some newly found, beneficial insights on what types of kids the NBA needs and are looking for.
-Might have a soft spot for "college basketball" as a whole. And would see a return as a challenge to "save it" in some ways. Maybe he sees the talent coming from US colleges lacking in recent years versus European talent? And fixing that might interest him? And providing a new "model" at IU could do that.

At this point, I'm surprised it hasn't been announced yet!

Any thoughts as to who BS would name as assistants?
Ha ha...now we're talking! Some nerdy Ivy league guy that is a wizard strategy guy. A wizard sales oriented guy to help on the recruiting trail (use his Celtics connections here) Jim Crutchfield from D2 Nova Southeastern. Keep Cal Cheaney and Jordy Hulls in some capacity.

THAT staff, with Stevens as the head coach...they'd need to start hanging Natty banners on both ends of the court after a handful of years. Ha ha.
