The defining Gen-X movie?

Listening to this really takes me back. IYKYK. The WC Movie Club will be shortlisting this for its inaugural selection:

Maybe instead of a mountain, I’ll move to Europe and live on the train.

I liked "Singles" better than "Before Sunrise"...at least I could relate to it more in my 20's.

Replace the Seattle locale with Dallas, and it was almost a carbon copy of our early 90's existence. I even lived in a 1930's retro complex...except we would hang at the San Francisco Rose bar instead of a coffee shop. 😄

I saw that with my college girlfriend. I had quite the thing for Julie Delpy. To be fair, I'm sure my college girlfriend had a thing for Ethan Hawke too.

I get it, but just am thinking 90s movies.

This site agrees with you, though:

"Swingers" also resonated.

Replace swing dancing with occasional forays into the country bars to two step and jitterbug, and the rest of it was kinda how we operated.

I watched that not long ago. The hockey dialogue legitimized the movie
GREAT scene.

Our game was PGA Tour golf 95 (I think). ****ing bring chicks home at close, drop by the Chinese place that sold beer out the back door after 2am, get back to the 'stead, and fire up the Sega. $20/game matches drinking (and stuff) til 5 am. 😄

lol pga tour golf was our hangover game. It was soothing. EA hockey was our before going out game. Just like swingers. And that Fing roenick skated straight to the goal. Broke the Fing game. I’ll never forget all of us playing in our shitty apt and that exact play happened and I jumped up and screamed BULLSHIT!!!!!!! and accidentally kicked over a spittoon bucket or whatever it was that contained about 9 months of dip spit. Was Fing awful the rest of our time there.

If you go to 2:42, you can see a couple dancing facing you and a younger dude in suspenders. Behind him is another couple, a shorter guy with suspenders dancing with a woman with bangs in a 30s/40s style. Those two taught east coast swing and lindy hop at all the Austin clubs in the 90s. Cool people, great dancers, really into the scene.

I am blanking on their names, but knew them fairly well. Reminds me of a good story: tried to date this beautiful chick who knew them well, too, and was also in the swing dancing scene. She was a waitress at a diner I went to often near the law school (Red River Cafe). She agreed to go out on a date with me the summer I was studying for the bar exam, after I worked up the nerve to ask her out. Great date. Then she thanked me and said can we be friends, I'm a lesbian. :( Her name, I will never forget.

Damn I miss Austin of the 90s.
