The guy I was chatting up rattled off 50 beers I'd never heard of, which doesn't happen often. Humbling indeed. Like with anything else, it's all about levels. It sounds like his group and your group and Phish's group operate at an extraordinarily high level, which is awesome. I'm not sure I'm capable of that level.

I'm part of a secret Facebook beer nerds local group. They post some pretty cool information about events, special releases and availability of stuff locally.
That violates a couple rules I have - namely, never chug a whale. And shirtless? I don't think that looks flattering to a man of my ilk.
Damn. You are the man. And I'm not sure how many of the beers actually count as whales. Probably not many but technically that's what they're supposed to be. I chugged a sScream for my initiation. I felt dumb enough even with my shirt on, and that certainly is no whale.. You are correct. The shirtless thing really is not a good look for anybody. None the less they did a mass shirtless chug at the fox beer festival a couple weeks ago. I was already gone fortunately but it was kind of hilarious to watch the video.
The guy I was talking to did the abbreviation thing. That's when I tuned out. Nice guy, though - brought the Astronaut out for me, and it wasn't even in the system yet. Plus I helped him with the lady hunting ZD for her son, so we were copacetic.

You're not wrong. I do love Anti-Hero, Lizard King and Vallejo though. Some great stuff out of Ohio too.Surly keeps brewing this, and I keep buying it. There may be some legs to the "Todd is going to be available year-round" talk. That's good, because this may be the best Midwestern IPA available on a regular basis. That's right, I typed that.
I think uber-fresh Lizard King and Vallejo are at the tippity top of the IPA ladder. Lizard King that is less than 3 weeks old is a religious experience.

I really liked that one. I had that x-mas eve last year. I miss Surly Eight. I think I may have said that before LOL.Or you could go with this - a black ale (which is essentially an imperial stout overhopped with piney hops) brewed with Ethiopian coffee that weighs in at 13.49% ABV. The label is freakin' me out, man.

Imperial Oak is a low key joint; in a warehouse with a tasting room upfront. But, the vibe is good, and the beer was good. I've not had their BA stuff, but I like what they are doing.

Nope. Never heard of them. I had a couple pints of a Mosaic IPA from Urban Chestnut from St. Louis tonight. That brewery isn't spectacular but they're putting out good stuff . This was one of their better efforts.
