Beer Thread

My experience with Shorts is that their beer seems to fall off pretty quickly - was it pretty fresh? I've some Huma that I loved, and some that (I guess) was older, and just was a bit dark as you describe.
Should have been pretty fresh. It just hit the shelves yesterday or Wednesday. It could have sat in the warehouse for a couple weeks.

Went to the Surly Beer Hall with Little O for lunch today after making a scintillating sales call in Minneapolis. On the menu for me:

Surly Pils - the 3rd edition of this, featuring Saphir hops.

Next, Two, a rebooted version of their 2nd Anniversary beer. Imperial stout with cranberries. Stoopid good.

Finally, their Gose. If you like sours, you'd love this.

After I dropped Little O off at home, I swung by Total Wine to see if they anything cool. Walked out with this mini-stash.

I'm gonna need a 2nd mouth to consume all the stuff I've got. It's a great time to be a beer nerd, boys and girls.

You sir, are a professional. Damn I need to make a pilgrimage to Surly. And I may need to pick up another Mango Magnifico.

Jungle Boogie from Marz and BBA 471 Small Batch IPA from Breckenridge on the train tonight. Not a big fan of the Jungle Boogie but the 471 was tasty

Now watching Big Ten hoops and starting on a Double Crooked Tree. Let's see where this night goes

having my first ever mango magnifico

I like the heat but wish there was more bite to it. It is fruit/heat great but malted to hell .

Well that's one hell of a day! Keep hearing about the Mango Magnifio, I'll have to keep an eye open for it.

I'm a big fan of Jungle Boogie and the blueberry variation. Marz is doing some really good stuff.the pale ale and IPAs other than Citra Citra Citra are just OK though.

Yesterday I had 4 Hands Absence of Light on draft. It's a 7.1% peanut butter chocolate milk stout. Surprisingly drinkable and enjoyable. I didn't expect to like it at all.

Is peanut butter the next thing?

My local had a Ballast Point tap takeover last week, and while tap takeovers aren't generally my thang, I do love me some Ballast Point, so I graced them with my presence. I tried the Victory at Sea (post having both the grapefruit and pineapple Sculpins - supremo!) but the peanut butter take on a porter/stout was lost in the translation.

Maybe just not my thang....Phishy, your opinion?

Yes beer tastes like beer Some are better than others. So What? It's friiggin beer.

Victory at Sea is great. The variants they have tried w Victory at Sea have greatly failed IMO. That peppermint one was really bad.

The peanut butter phase has failed on most that I have tried. Another gimmick failed.

I really like grapefruit and regular sculpin. Pineapple sucked.

Going to be in the air while the ncaa final is on ... get to miss the rookies . Nothing worse to be in Vegas with a bunch of teenage duchebags.

I'll agree with you on V@S with and without peanut butter. Grown, your palate has.

Yet, your palate led you astray, I'm afraid. The pineapple Sculpin is an excellent brew; that said, it's a tad sweet, so I get that it's not as appealing as the grapefruit.

It sure is. If we end up banning MaxCoke, though, I can't imagine it would only be from one thread.
This is the one thread in this gawdforsaken hell hole that works right. All the beer posts are (generally) in one place, and the folks who care about the thread respond. And, for the most part, those that don't, don't; except for....

Friggin' pretension dick .. oh someone came and posted on our beer thread .. jesus h christ .... what a pussy.

Having a fantastic bottle share tonight. So far here is what we have had. Gotta get @Hoops Cat over at some point....

Buckle Down - Mark of the Yeast - Kuma's Collab
NoDa - Coco Loco
Courage - Russian Imperial
Central Waters - Sixteen
Dogfish - Higher Math
Westbrook - Mexican Cake

Also decided to pull the beers out of the cellar. Have more than I thought!

went to Deviate Brewing today as well as Black Acre.

Deviate is IMPRESSIVE. Great beers. The coffee banana beer and the dark chocolate cherry stout were world class.

Dangerous Man's (Minneapolis brewer) Peanut Butter Porter is outstanding.

Bells - Neptune
Russian River - Supplication

Both added to the list tonight. Good stuff. Oh yeah, only me and two others at this bottle share. Ha

That looks like a world-class day, ovaltine. I just found this thread and definitely going to need to start following along to soak up recommendations from our resident beer experts.

Just curious, what kind of sales are you in?

Ballast Point

Showed up in Fort Wayne for the first time. Never had any. Saw it in the cooler at Bellmont on Illinois Road. Picked up Big Eye, Sculpin, and Grapefruit Sculpin. Had all three last night with the Mrs.

The Mrs approves.

I had one of these last night.

Well, I had a bunch of friends over for my birthday/St. Pat's and and gave 5 others about a 1 oz pour. I had 3oz or so. I understand my math is off but we still dumped half of a 12 oz bottle down the drain. I really enjoy pepper beers, but this was insane. By far the hottest beer I've ever had. I wasn't hurting but it was not enjoyable. Maybe my remaining bottle can be used for chilli.
