I personally was hoping that if IU was going with an older, "veteran coach" that John Belein would be the choice.

One thing I take away from this whole episode is that maybe IU should never hire a former player again. From time to time I see people throwing Calbert's name out there. Man it would be tough to see him struggle.
I’ve only seen people talk about Calbert as an interim. But overall yes, no former players unless they’re proven winners at a high level. Too hard to get rid of them if you need to.

Woodson is not leaving IU until he decides he’s leaving. As long as he’s winning 18-22 games with the occasional tournament bid and running a clean program, he’s going to be the coach. Why in the hell can’t anyone get this?

if we win 18 -20 and don't make the tournament, name the amount you want to bet, he won't be the coach the coach next year, people are fed up with being mediocre.

And we now have the Football program to show that with the portal and NIL, the right coach can turn a program around quickly. Any claims of needing more time or claims that incremental improvements are good enough just don't hold water anymore.

With Buckner leaving BoT next summer, I think you are not correct. This is Woody’s last shot- Big Ten title or Sweet Sixteen or he’s failed. You’ll note after Atlantis even lifelong and Willdog have given in- it’s a dead man walking situation unless he changes

I would be more inclined to agree with you if his contract wasn't only a couple years from being done. Its incredibly rare for coaches any more to head in to seasons with less than 2-3 years left on their contract. That hurts recruiting. I think this offseason its either modest extension for Woody, or termination.

And through the first month of the season, it sure isn't trending towards him deserving any sort of extension, regardless of who he's buddies with.

**edited to add a little detail not talked much about on Woody's contract. IU doesn't have to pay him his buyout how they normally would...they can spread it out in 1 million dollar annual payments. This makes getting rid of him, financially, pretty simple.
