For first time ever, the sorry state of the basketball program made me debate keeping my FB season tickets.

Idk how long I can continue to spend such a large part of my entertainment budget (abt $3k/yr) on two programs that are not so entertaining lately....

If IU doesn’t show commitment or improvements within the next two years, I’ll likely bow out and give up 12+ yrs of priority points in FB, WBB/soccer, and MBB.

The tickets are cheaper to buy single game
on secondary sites when we have been so poor rather than to hold season tix w donations and requirements...

Indiana has not had a football coach leave the program with an overall winning record since 1948. I don't know why anyone would think that trend would change in the future considering the caliber of competition in the big ten and the fact IU is playing an extra big ten game every year now.

That’s what Northwestern said in the 1980s.

10 teams went to bowls. Eek out 3 wins in the conference and win your non-conference and you go bowling.

It’s not that hard if you have a committed administration and a staff that knows what it is doing.

The fact that IU cannot win 6 games in football or be one of 68 teams in basketball to make a tournament speaks more to the incompetence of our administration and coaches than it does of the “challenges.”

Whatever the reason, let's hope it's not contagious!

I'm hearing Justin Timberlake "Cry Me a River".
No one cares, someone else will enjoy your seats. Adios!
I dont know what your thinking. Have you not read about down attendance throughout the ncaa? 3000 grand a year plus time, gas, food and beverages is alot to dole out. Get a product or entertainment value that is worth it is all he is saying. Thats not too much to ask for considering his investment. Maybe you like getting sh!t on for 12 straight years with a couple of positives that were just above a date night where you paid too much for the food and left saying meh? Usually you dont go back to those establishments.

Football is trying as their recruiting class was pretty good. The admin needs to dump a truck load of money though into athletics or we’re going to continue rooting for losing teams.

Gave mine up a few years ago. I’ve never regretted it once.

Were you as fun in person as you are on this board ? Nothing better than sitting next to a guy who shows up bitching that the coach wasn't fired last week, then proceeds to scream for the coach, AD, and university President to be fired after every. single. play.

Did you bring wet blankets and frowny-face masks for everyone else in your section ? Did you share your Eeyore mascot ? Were you able to get everyone around you to do the "WE SHOULD HAVE HIRED BROHM, WE SHOULD HAVE HIRED BROHM ! " chant in unison a hundred times in the span of one game ? Being in the crowd with you had to be a magical experience - like a child's first visit to Disneyworld.

Of course we all know the real reason you gave up your tickets is that the shuttle from the dementia ward of the home doesn't run on Saturdays.

It wasn’t a problem when we had a good coach. I was there during the “good ol days” when we were elite.

What day is Saturday that doesn’t run the shuttle from home?

Look have you ever seen Bobby's record when we hired him? A bargain basement hire for sure. Then he's hired and goes NIT, tourney final four, and CCAT??? I can only imagine this board in year 3... A f*cking lynch mob!!! We got lucky hiring Knight. It was a roll of the dice lucky draw! The fact he stayed as long as he did is amazing.

Same with Krzyzewski. Crap record before he was hired from same school as Bobby (Army), duke rolls the dice and it took 3 full years to get to the tourney.

Everyone expects someone to waltz on in and produce final 4's immediately coz this is IU basketball.

I was talking to my oldest (36) and youngest son (20) yesterday about IU basketball during the Duke game. We were talking about how good Duke has been. I said look boys when I grew up IU was the Duke of the basketball world. We were there every year, we had the last undefeated team ever, we went deep every year in the tourney and nobody liked us just like nobody likes duke.

That kind of rang in on them for a moment.

BUT for you to think thats gonna happen again overnight is idiotic!

Was Archie a roll of the dice? Yes but any other open candidate for the job would have been as well.

I'll stick with Arch and give him a shot man. He did an awful lot with an awful little at Dayton.

Personally if we would have went out and spent 7 or 8 million there are only 2 coaches that would have qualified. Stevens or Donavon and I don't think either was interested. I also think they would be in the same position as Archie with what they were left with. Maybe we coulda made it this year but been bounced early. Anyways Archie has the credentials give him a chance!

I wouldn't worry about whether or not Freshmen and Sophomores will get better over the next two years, in basketball. Nor do I think bringing in the first Mr. Basketball since Yogi shows any downward momentum. As for football, they just had their highest recruiting class in the rating era. They just had their best 4 year recruiting period. Their obvious needs seem to have been addressed. All athlectics facilities have recently been improved to be competitive with the rest of the B10. Even the volleyball team has hopes of being competitive in by far the best volleyball conference in America. I don't see where anyone can possibly say investments aren't being made. Because you think Allen or Miller aren't good coaches? Miller lost 5 scholorship seniors last year, but the record improved with a much more difficult schedule and 2 freshmen and a Sophomore making up the backcourt, no consistent shooters, and little size. If you really are doubting the upward trend, I think it's down to your own personal issues...

They did dump a "truckload" of money into facilities and particularly nutrition and weight room facilities for the two programs you mention or have you not been paying attention? 10 years ago, our athletics programs were losing money. Guess which AD helped turn that around after Greenspan? I don't get the hatred of the guys trying to improve things. Place blame where blame is due: Previous administrations and coaches. If you want to see improved success, let the curreny guys have a chance to build that success. It takes time...

The real answer is he lacks critical thinking skills and uses his childish emotions to bring the entire board down. He doesn't live in reality and is so far removed from the situation he may as well start posting with no internet connection.

I call for a Creed Bratton approach. Open up a MS windows document and tell him it's his IU blog that everyone will read.

Those "good old days" ended about the time CC and company graduated. We still could pretty well count on eeking into the NCAA's those last ~4 years, but that was it. The program wasn't keeping up on facilities and Knight's style wasn't working with the same level recruits he got in his best days. That 2002 run never would've happened as Knight was sold on Cov not playing and Fife being the starting PG (and he never was very flexible). He NEVER would've let that many players take that many bad shots or be that loose with the ball. His fingerprints were, certainly, on that team, but Davis let them play their game. However, that 2002 run led to a coach who wasn't ready getting extended. It's debatable whether this or Pat Knight raking over would have been worse. However, the hiring of a two time cheater was the nail in the coffin. Worst decision made in a long string of bad decisions. Either way, it took Knight 3 years to build this program to just really be competitive taking over a better program than we have had to start a coaching career, since (or Davis' might have been a better situation?). If you don't give a coach time to build a program, you end up like every other school firing your coach every few years...

We'll never know what might have been in 2002. Davis let them play their game because he didn't really know what else to do. He was way out of his experience and depth and he admitted as much.

Football and men’s basketball have been garbage under Glass. We should not be rebuilding in both major sports a decade into his time as AD. Facilities are better, but still lacking. The Big Ten Network is why the athletic department doesn’t lose money.

Let me get this right...you think we’d want Archie fired if he went to the Final Four in year 2 like Knight did? What in the world are you talking about? In his first five years Knight went to the Elite 8 3x, 2 Final Fours, and won a title.

Archie is 0-2 on the bare minimum NCAA tournament. With 2 all conference players and 7 four star recruits.

Look, if you want to bury your head in the sand and ignore the reality of the situation that’s fine. But don’t expect reasonable, knowledgeable fans to follow you. Truly unbelievable stuff.

Say what you want...Knight always made the tournament. And he won 3 titles. Now making the tournament is becoming some sort of accomplishment. It’s pathetic. The same excuses were made for Crean for YEARS.

Are you dumb I used two examples. The other is Krzyzewski. 3 years without an appearance. Nice try! If Archie misses next year and dumbasses like you want him gone what if? Krzyzewski was 3-11 and 11-17 overall year 3. I've bantered with you before so rather than give you the gtfo whats your rebuttal?

Of course you don’t realize how percentages work. You find one coach who worked out and ignore the hundreds who didn’t. It’s delusional and blind wishful thinking. Some of us know better. I guess you’ll have to learn the hard way like you did with Crean. Because the same exact excuses were used for him.

First off, there are plenty of coaches who “waltz right in and win right away”. You act as if it doesn’t happen. Cal, Roy, Beard, Self, etc

And no one has been expecting Final Fours to start. But reasonable people don’t just excuse everything when you have a talented roster like we did this year.

Reasonable people know we didn't have a talented roster. This is really the heart of the problem here - people who don't know what a good basketball player looks like. We had one talented and experienced player. We had two talented, inexperienced players. Beyond that we were a team with a bunch of limited-skill upperclassmen and inexperienced kids not ready to be important contributors.

When you can't see that, you don't know enough about basketball to make a rational argument about coaching.

Preseason/in-season predictions by basketball experts had IU ranked and talented...
Vegas Sportsbooks had IU as the 18th lowest odds to win the NatChampionship on the ‘Futures’ bet...

Experts favored IU to win heavily.
Inadequate coaching staffs failed to meet the expectation.

Well far be it from me to question the talent evaluation of Vegas bookmakers. In addition, who are the other "experts" - just out of curiosity. And how many games had they seen IU's incoming and returning players play ?

Do you think they would have made the same prognostications had they been informed that Davis, Green, McRoberts, Phinisee, Thompson would all miss significant time in the conference season with injuries (and in Green's case, a 3 game suspension) ? Or that Hunter would not see the floor in a single game ? I'm thinking that might have changed their outlook a bit.

It's only my opinion but I have a hard time viewing talent that is unavailable to play as talent that should help you win.

What baffles me is the number of posters who want to talk about how talented our players are but who, at the same time, lobby for kids to transfer or be "Creaned" and replaced with other players. It leaves me scratching my head that some here actually claim to have watched this team play this year, and watched other teams, and come away with the conclusion that we were a talented team.
