Palm of CBS Sports says we're a play-in 11 seed, Lunardi says we're first four out. DeCourcy says we're last four in. Not that I want to see this team play anymore per se but what is the logic of being a 10 seed going into the B10 tourney, losing to a better B10 and NCAA seed and then being out. Really doesn't make sense other that OSU getting upset by a lower seed in the BTT and lowering the value of our last win.

Do we care or not?

Is this team fun to watch? Maybe only because it's unexpected for them to win. At the end of the day these guys are basically weathermen trying predict rain and not the actual weather (selection committee selections). This team is not good but it's not the 69th best team by any stretch.

I know it's tradition but if NCAA BB went the way of NCAA football, most of these small conference winners wouldn't sniff the tourney. The Mountain West teams for example are padding their 20 win records and rankings by beating many teams that would have zero wins in the B10. How do you not weigh the fact that we play 16 quad one teams and the MWC plays 6-8? I'd bet the best MWC team doesn't finish 10-10 in the BiG

Football basically now takes the top teams and Power 5 dominate. I know it would emotionally be like Indiana's move to HS class basketball but are we really seeing the best teams enter the tourney? Gotta think that money will prevail some day.

The tourney really boils down to about the top 16-20 teams anyway. Yes there are sometimes cinderellas but they usually don't make it out of the Sweet 16 if even that far, unless they end up playing Purdue. The rest of the games are just about the money.

I mean we are told the conference tournament games aren't supposed to move the needle much but then they adjust the needle every time a score goes final.

My hunch is we'll be in one of the play-in games, that way the basketball powers-that-be can exploit our brand for promotional purposes while at the same time barbing it a little.

At the national level I don't think people like Indiana basketball very much. We're the school that had that a-hole Knight. We fans are perceived as entitled and insufferable and living in the past.

If I were an up and coming coach and I saw the way they ran Crean out after winning the Big Ten twice, I'm not sure I'd want any part of it. Someone else can go lanuish away in that purgatory! I derive no pleasure in saying that, just calling it how I see it.

This has us in (spoiler alert we are team K).

This has a good breakdown of the metrics that the committee looks at, and compares a bunch of supposedly anonymous teams.

What the committee does on a year by year basis does change. Remember when they used to more highly weight a team’s last 10 games?

I find the discussion on NCSOS and SOS interesting. IMHO, non conference SOS should be a very important factor. To me, who you choose to schedule should be highly valued.

We have nobody to blame but ourselves. We had every opportunity to take control and take the decision out of the hands of the Committee. Now We look like a pig wearing lipstick competing for the last preliminary position in a beauty contest.
If We don't get into the NCAA, We need to turn down a bid to a lesser Tournament if it will cost the Athletic Department Money. I might feel differently if We had a young team that was starting to jell and the experience of playing additional games would help for next year. However, We will be lucky to have 3 experienced Players back next Year, and that assumes that Goode will be granted an additional Year of eligibility.

o-w-t

No. Had it not been for the blowouts, I'd be more apt to fight for this team because our NET ranking would've been much higher. But its disingenuous to say this team has earned a spot. It may be in come Sunday and if so, thats great but I won't have any disappointment if we don't. We earned it either way.

If you do care, these are the things you'll be rooting for to happen these next few days:

Texas to lose to Tennessee today
UNC to lose to Duke today

New Mexico or Utah St to win the Mountain West
Memphis to win the AAC

I think if all of those things happen we are in, but if any of them don't happen we're out.

Just my prediction after looking at a combination of the most accurate bracketologists.

If they expand to 138 teams, sure, otherwise this is not a tourney team.

9th BTEN
19-13
Field Goal %..... 103rd 46.2 FG%
3-point %......... 272nd 32.3 3P%
Pointts.............. 202nd 2330 Pts
Total Rbnds..... 143rd 32.7 RPG

Not saying we're great but those numbers are influenced by the conference we play in. Without reviewing I'd think there are teams in front of us with losing records in very weak conferences. A quick look shows teams like Cornell, Iowa, N. FL, etc. in the top 25 for scoring offense. UT Martin, UAB, Mercer, Yale are in top 25 for rebounds. Another argument for Power 5 teams getting preference (even though I don't want to change the current format)

You have to be much better than 69th to get an at-large.

Keep in mind that these are only predictions. These guys are generally good at what they do, but rarely do any of them correctly predict all 68 teams. From what I recall, they usually miss 1-3 teams each year. Not shabby, of course, but still demonstrates a margin of error. Another way to look at is that the committee can claim to be “right” only because their bracket is the only one that matters.
