Archie needs to clean house...

Woah!!! Finally holding Archie accountable?
Archie can only do so much. At some point, the players have to care enough to hate losing.

Who is Arch supposed to sub these guys out for? You were the one who said we have "top 25 talent". So, who do you sub for Smith or Langford?

Anderson and Moore.

But, but we'll lose. Yeah, we are losing anyway, I will go with the guys who may not be capable of playing at a high level yet but by God at least they try.

Romeo and Justin are lazy, let them get some rest on the bench. Hell, play the damn waltons if you need to in order to get your point across.

Langford (probably gone anyway but I think he is part of the problem), Smith, Green, Davis (more because I don't think he will ever be healthy), Fitzner is already leaving...

Davis is worth the risk. He's proven to be a fine low post scorer when healthy and it's unlikely we can get a better post option at this point. Hell, if he does stay injured, it's been as a Hoosier, so we owe him a scholly, imo. I guess they have that "guarantee" so if he truly is injured, we could take away the athletic scholly and the school still gives him one if he stays? Does that still count as one of our bball schollies?

I was a bit more iffy on Deron but was thinking along the lines of just moving on.

Just wait until next year when we’re under .500. Nothing about our program is trending up. Nothing.
Mr. Negativity strikes again. Nothing is trending up? Nothing? Open your eyes and you will see that recruiting is trending up from where it was under Crean - especially in Crean's later years. And recruiting is the start of improvement on the court.

What we have coming in will not replace what we are losing, at least not anytime soon. And it doesn’t take much to improve on Crean’s recruiting.

We’d have to overcome a helluva height disadvantage. But I bet John-boy can play some lockdown D.

Stop nickel and diming the revenue producing programs, make the North Endzone complex football only, get a compliance staff that isn’t hostile to sports, clean the bird shit out of the stadium on gameday, make sure the shot clocks work, reduce ticket prices for football, learn a thing or two about sports so I can evaluate and hire coaches properly, and be aware of any internal problems in the programs. Glass was either ignorant of or indifferent to the myriad issues occuring under Crean, which is a big reason why the program is in the crapper and may never recover.

And one more thing, don’t have any more giant metal beams fall from the roof on the day of a game.

You mean Chris Mack and Lville who we beat on Dec 8, en route to a 13-2 start?

The last month has sucked, but Archie's not going anywhere and we can have addition by subtraction next year, with guys improving, a healthy roster, and more of his players. The verdict's out on who's better: Archie, Holtmann or Mack. Of the 3, I think Archie was the most highly thought of, before their new jobs. This season has shaken my confidence, but every coach has failed recruits (Fitzner... who thank goodness only takes 1 yr of scholly vs 4 like Priller and Gelon was going to) and bad seasons.
Mack has Louisville playing well as much as I hate saying that. I do believe Archie will get it right, it will just take time. Putting myself in your shoes I would be pissed also because you have been waiting a long time. I also think having Romeo gone will help. Watching him he’s all about getting his and Archie never holds him accountable. Next yr he won’t have to deal with that.

If DD is correct Glass did not even look at Mack. He claims Arhie was his guy from day one and he never even contacted any other coaches. That is pretty darn concerning.

Is it?

Archie was widely considered to be one of the most coveted up-and-comers in the game. And the hire was almost universally praised...including by the vast majority of IU fans.

You haven’t held him accountable at all. The team doesn’t want to play for him. They don’t care. And he doesn’t help them out with any offense. It’s brutal. And it won’t last very long. Your savior already has one foot out the door.

Crean signed a McD AA 5 straight years. Archie is almost identical. This is a worse Crean 2.0. He already has one foot out the door. This won’t last long term.

LOL, I am not even going to change the original post because that is funny. Should have said walk ons

"Waltons" is the post of the year. Kudos.

I'd bet they'd be grinders and hustlers and they'd kick the pig snot out of our opponents.

And what a marketing campaign opportunity for Glass: "Watch the candy stripes disappear, to be replaced by faded overhauls." Right up Fred's marketing genius alley........

LOL. Classic. I'm still laughing at this, even after several minutes. So many visuals. So many opportunities.

I will say this if he misses the tourney again next year for the third straight one I do not know how he can survive that. I just do not. I do think he may be in over his head at IU.

I know alot of IU fans who were not all that thrilled with it. The fact that Fred Glass was involved with another coaching hire should have been very concerning from day one. It may work out but right now it is not looking good at all.

I think you are selling candy striped overalls short....

Again this has been explained before that the Student Bill of Right guarantees a scholarship but not a roster spot on your team.
Problem is, Scott, that guaranteed scholarship counts towards your NCAA allotment of 13. You take away that roster spot, you’re down to 12 scholarship players.

My savior? Lol

Ok CDK - what do you suggest Archie does different?

What we have coming in will not replace what we are losing, at least not anytime soon. And it doesn’t take much to improve on Crean’s recruiting.
Well... one place where fpaugh and I agree is that it's impossible to hold incoming classes up as being amazing college players when they have yet to play a collegiate game. On the flip side, it's also impossible to state with any accuracy that an incoming class can't replace what is leaving. And that also doesn't take into account the possibilities of growth from our current players and an overall improvement in team chemistry.

I'm not saying with any degree of certainty that any of this will happen. But I'm also not denying that it's likely to happen.

You are correct. "This" won't last long term. Either Archie will right the ship and everyone (with the exception of you, Mr. Negative) will be happy, or he won't - and he'll be gone. But to count him out after a season and a half - or even two seasons - is foolhardy.

They were very hard workers and over came a lot so that sounds like the type of players I would want on this team

First thing is rid yourself of the primadonna known as Romeo. Dude won’t last 5 years in the nba. Guaranteed. He’s been told his whole life how great he is. He doesn’t play hard he doesn’t get his teammates involved and he takes plays off. Dude is your biggest problem. If you happen to make the tournament rest assured he will be taking a majority of the shots if he’s open or not. He’s gotta go. You have a nice nucleus of players returning next yr, oh and you have tjd who’s an all American, and the watford kid who looks damn good. Also, you’re still in it for keion brooks. Your team next yr will be 10 times better than this yr, because you won’t have to make one guy happy, you will have your team back. Next yr could be a special year especially if you add brooks

Mack is 10x’s the coach Archie is. He started with nothing at UofL and has them playing great. Archie is imploding.

I think he probably could of had Mack but Fred did not even look at him. He was laser focused on Miller. The fact Fred was allowed to make the hire in the first place is a massive red flag.

If a large portion of the IU fan base would stop accepting mediocrity then something would change. I read inside the hall and all they do is say let’s support everyone no matter what. We have a good team I know it. Give Archie 7 years to get his system in place. Many are happy with shocking the world once a year. It’s embarrasing. This is not the IU I grew to loath during my younger years. Now I just feel bad watching them lose to Rutgers and Nebraska.

Does Indiana leadership even really care about how well athletics does? I could be wrong but I get the feeling that as long as athletics stays scandal free and is fiscally sound that they are happy. It doesn't help that we've done next to nothing athletically in the last decade (minus the soccer NC) and people are still donating a boatload of money. With that going on why would anyone fire Fred? IU's leadership proved a long time ago they don't care about winning. They seem very content.

no, i think IU hired a good young coach and gave him a lot of money because they want him to win. we'll see how that pans out but they could have just kept crean. but the new narrative is that would have been a good idea. you guys started this party 1.5 years too early.

It’s refreshing to see you’ve back off all your baseless guarantees. Not feeling as confident anymore?

This is ridiculous. Romeo is a great kid and tireless worker who has become a convenient scapegoat for the armpit of our fan base. We’re lucky to have him and I feel bad he has to put up with this. He deserves better.

And he’ll play 15+ years in the NBA barring injuries.

Your kidding yourself if you don’t think he factors in. How many guys before Romeo has Archie ever coached that were top 5? He coddles him. You never see him pull him after a busted play or a defensive breakdown. If you’re going to coach a kid then coach him. He needs to correct his mistakes. Romeo is not great at one thing, he’s just good at a bunch of things and putting the team before himself isn’t one of them
