What confuses me is how many coaches this guys loses. Also, outside of Manny Diaz, who was already a high level coach, none is his assistants have gotten head coaching jobs.I get Penn State is a big program and he would get to coach players that have more athleticism/potential. There is more pressure and career risk there, but he may be up for it. State College is pretty crappy, but a football guy probably doesn't care.
The money probably isn't that different, he's had huge pay increases since coming to IU. I was hoping he was part of the core staff that would keep building here and eventually he would take a HC job and that would be cool.
Who knows. Maybe he is tired of Cignetti, I don't know everything behind the scenes.
Bright side is we have a lot of $ to poach our next DC if he leaves.
Anyone with inside sources that can say if this story has any legs.
I know the fans really want that guy. I think he comes from the PSU family.Word is he's been interviewed along with the safeties coach for the Cleveland Browns, who has ties to Diaz, the former DC, and is an up and comer. These seems like correct rumors. Latest on PSU site is that Franklin is in LA talking with the present USC DC. Don't know if that is accurate.

Penn St and Texas will both end the season ranked ahead of IU.Apparently he was just doing his top 5 teams and that was his way of saying IU and Penn State were tied at 4/5
IU had a great season and should be in the top five but I believe what you said CC Mac.
Cig doesn't look at ranking. He's just stating the facts according to Cig.Penn St and Texas will both end the season ranked ahead of IU.
We should come in at 6 or 7 which would be an amazing accomplishment for year one.
Haines could have said he wanted to look at his options before signing. It would piss me off if I was Coach Cig and gave a guy that big a raise to put the off-season issues to bed and dig into next season's training, but then the guy interviews anyway.
I'm sure Cig is all about his guys growing and getting opportunity, he knows their goals, so I'm sure he allows them to interview. Can't just talk the talk.
But still...
Then again, interviews can't really happen until the off season so what can anyone do.

I’m calling this story out as bullshit. I never heard of the only guy who is reporting it. Could be a play for clicks, or maybe he’s been played by someone at Penn State. We’ve seen over the last few months that there are people in college football who don’t like IU’s meteoric rise and/or are threatened by it, don’t like CCC’s brashness, and I’m sure there are some who would love to create the appearance of instability in the program.Wouldn’t seem to make a ton of sense to me unless a HC gig is a near term goal and he sees it as a clear path.
I tend to agree as it's just a lateral move. How much higher profile could he expect in State College than being an instrumental part of raising a CFB program from the ashes to the playoffs. In my mind Franklin is a Q mark in coaching compared to Cignetti. Bird in hand...isI’m calling this story out as bullshit. I never heard of the only guy who is reporting it. Haines had a stellar year as IU’s DC, was a Broyles Award finalist, and has three All-Americans returning. I don’t see him leaving IU for anything other than a head coach position. No way he goes to Penn State as DC. If I’m wrong about this, serve me up some crow.
I’d guess even with our progress, PSU is 2x our NIL and OSU/UM are 3x. Their AD revenue is like $50-100M more than us. I’m not complaining IU is doing a great job to improve, but these big FB programs are massive.I wonder how close Kamara, Fisher, and Ponds are to Haines? And if their re commitment to the program is any sort of sign in all this?
If he leaves for PSU, this should be smelling salts to snap our focus back in to place on how far "behind" we actually are from the PSU, Michigan, OSU's of the conference. Despite how we performed this season.
Not predicting that Haines will, would, or is leaving for PSU. But it would be a very poignant, symbolic, example of what you laid out. And then that most everything else is just "bigger" in places like Happy Valley. We could win a Natty in the next couple years, and we're still playing "catch up" in a lot of ways.I’d guess even with our progress, PSU is 2x our NIL and OSU/UM are 3x. Our DC wouldn't do that, would he?I just read on Football scoop the USC DC signed an extension last night, that can’t be good news.
Sounds like he was using the PS interview to get more money.

Unfortunately maybe,we all know the bottom line is money. Our DC wouldn't do that, would he?
Penn State's NIL collective funding in 2024 was $13.8 million. Ours was $13.6 million, fourth highest in the conference.I’d guess even with our progress, PSU is 2x our NIL and OSU/UM are 3x. But how much more would they spend for a DC than IU knowing his HR assets to the HOOSIERS? If they offer an additional $3-400k IU would be stupid to not match or better.I’d guess even with our progress, PSU is 2x our NIL and OSU/UM are 3x. Their AD revenue is like $50-100M more than us. Those numbers are iffy in terms of accuracy. Even if true, half of ours goes to basketball.Penn State's NIL collective funding in 2024 was $13.8 million. Ours was $13.6 million, fourth highest in the conference.
Michigan - - about $16 mill. Ohio State - - $20 mill.
NIL collectives became a big deal as they performed a function that the schools had previously been prohibited from doing themselves. That's changing, though. Beginning with the '25-'26 academic year, revenue sharing will redefine the compensation landscape, with reliance on collectives being significantly reduced. Our estimated revenue sharing in '25-'26 will be $20.5 million, the same as PSU, OSU and Michigan.
What numbers do you have? Those numbers are iffy in terms of accuracy.
Obviously...any sort of sign that Haines isn't leaving.Any sort of sign in all of what?
We went 1-1 against Michigan and Ohio State, and didn't play Penn State this year. We need to improve significantly at the LOS. If/when that happens, we won't be "behind" anyone.
Chatter from the IU athletic dept, I usually hear it from IU media people I chat with sometimes. It’s hard to find great NIL numbers. What numbers do you have?
There are, and will continue to be, huge efforts to eliminate the NIL "collectives" once Rev Share goes online. It will be marketed as an attempt to bring "fairness" to the process. Rev Share will provide the "pay for play" money. NIL will revert back to what its original intent was, which is players getting compensated for people and/or companies using their name, image, or likeness.Penn State's NIL collective funding in 2024 was $13.8 million.
