Anyone hear anything on Bryan Haines to Penn State?

This is part of the reason why price of streaming and tv services rise almost annually now. Stations keep renegotiating higher prices that get passed on to us. Thus, even if you don't go to games, the have nots are paying more and more so the haves can get even more.

Guess we should be thankful we apparently have quite a few haves donating to our NIL.

The TV money involved is insane. Obviously there's a ceiling there somewhere, but I doubt we've hit it yet.

In the mean time, someone has to get "the money". And I think football programs are realizing that coordinators and position coaches are just as important as players and head coaches...if not MORE important in many ways.

For sure...but at some point...that'll hit.

Also...how everyone consumes it could change. Blockbuster probably never dreamed their model would be a dinosaur as quickly as it became. Who knows how we'll all consume college sports 10 years from now. And what impacts that'll have on the money side of it?

My gut tells me all the TV and Streaming options, combined with some new VR type ways to experience the games (COSM Bar, Vegas Sphere)...will more and more take demand away from in person, stadium viewing. Maybe the top programs still pack their colossal stadiums, but I bet ticket prices decline over time.

Anyway...I doubt the revenue that's produced goes down any time soon...and again, they have to use that money somewhere. Coordinators are a pretty good return on investment, in my opinion.

In an earlier post (24), I said the claim that Haines was leaving IU to become Franklin’s/PSU’s DC was bullshit. I guess it’s possible he interviewed (increases your value to your current employer) but I’ve seen no credible evidence/reporting of that.

In any event, things are stable in Hoosier Nation and the future is bright.

I'm not guessing when I said he interviewed. He didn't do it for leverage though... he had already signed his new contract with us. He did it because it's Penn State, who is constantly in the playoff picture year after year.

This will be something that we have to get use to. We've got good coaches that other teams will want. That's a very good thing.

I believe you. You’re a good/serious poster. I just don’t get it. Unless it’s a money grab (Penn Statw is reportedly offering Knowles crazy money), what’s the allure? Yes, it’s Penn State. But Franklin’s rep is firmly entrenched as the guy who can’t win the big one. They’ve reached their ceiling. They made the final four because they had the easiest draw in the tournament (SMU at home, and Boise State). And the DC position there has been a revolving door.

Contrast that with IU. Haines has had a long, positive, and professional relationship with Cignetti. We had an historic season, a great D, and Haines was a Broyles Award finalist. He’ll be a head coach soon if he wants to be. And, most importantly, IU is an “emerging superpower” and an effing rocket ship! Who wouldn’t want to be along for the ride?!

Would be shocked if that hire isn't in-house. Mike Mickens is probably the club house leader for that gig.

Speaking of Notre Dame, an anonymous but highly accurate Twitter account is hinting that IU is in a good spot for two offensive lineman that recently started and transferred from ND; Rocco Spindler and Pat Coogan. Both are rated #1 and #3 IOL in the portal. Would be monumental to land both.

It's still Penn State, who is always in playoff talks, especially with it being at 12 teams.

We are definitely improving, but Penn State still has allure that coaches respect.

Funny thing is....if Penn State does end up hiring Jim Knowles, we'll probably have to go through this again with Ohio State. Haines is an Ohio guy and sure someone they will at least express interest in.
