Amateur sports: where to find them

pretty soon they'll be getting paid

if they aren't already
I played D1. We got $25 for dinner and $15 for lunch and breakfast. You got around an extra $20 for ncaa tourney games. I then played pro in the highest outdoor league in the US. I got $250 a game. Got drafted to mls and skipped for grad school.

My minion’s youth coach makes $130k a year coaching pre school aged kids

Re your first paragraph, I assume you'd do it all over again. I know I would have, had I that opportunity.

Yeah, but murt is going to spend a pretty penny up to that time making sure the minion doesn't "fall behind."

Murt, estimate the amount of money you will spend on soccer for your minion, from 0-18, including all coaches, clubs, gear, travel, etc.

It is what I’m most proud of and care most about. We text on a group chat every day. Our entire team. And coaches. Youth sports are a racket. A scam. A grift. Parents are delusional. But the memories it creates. The experiences. The friends. It’s so important.

That’s why im so excited to follow my daughter on her lacrosse journey. Of course there will be ups and downs. Heartbreak. Triumph. I’m here for it.

I’m community royalty so I won’t get charged for club etc. but for the average Joe to play full academy Ecnl etc between $10 - $15k a year. So $250k. On the hope of a scholarship that at least until recently was only 9.9 for d1. 5 go to foreigners so a bunch of guys splitting less than 5 schollies. Maybe 2 percent of the kids will get

I was paying $3k for Great Lakes League (step below ECNL). Still getting recruiting emails and she stopped any organized soccer 6 months ago. Which is ridiculous but I feel like if a college offers football scholarships, b/c of title IX, they almost have to beg girls to continue playing sports into college to balance the field.

All sports got a massive increase in the number of available scholarships. I’m not sure how all that works anymore. I guess title is and whether they decide to find them etc.

Yeah the expense is crazy. Youth soccer over like ten days for nationals. There’s zero reason for all the travel

Which is stupid

In another sign that college athletics have become just a lower tier professional athletic league, North Carolina hires Belichick and commits $20 million to its football NIL.

NC wants IU's success this year. I get it. It was fun.

That said, where to go for true amateur sports these days? High school, I guess.
NAIA Crossroads League here in Indiana is still one of the best ways to watch basketball the way it used to be. Just a bunch of kids playing because they love the game yet they are getting a very good education also.

D1 women’s lacrosse has 12 rides. You have to assume most those girls are incredibly uncoordinated and took up the sport the semester before high school bc her friends decided at the lunch table that it might be fun
