All joking aside

This is effed up. Please think twice before defending it.

As much as I'd like to see his fat ass nailed, I'm not going to get excited about this yet. That article has exactly one new point -- in the very first paragraph -- and the rest is longwinded rehashing and filler.

Agreed. It's early. But it's becoming increasingly clear why Justice felt the need to move quickly and execute a search warrant.

If there are docs of that nature I would be shocked if trump intended to abscond with them. Shocked. I don't believe he had the depth to care about any of that stuff.
Normal people, agree.

Trump did have a strange enamored attraction to the world's dictators.

There's a decent conspiracy theory we could come up with (of course if this 'nuclear info' suggestion turns out to be legit).

On our side, we've always felt he was compromised by Putin for some reason (the gossip was Putin had something on him....massive funding? pee tapes? An agreement to build a trump tower in Moscow?.... something that explained his weird behavior to Putin) so again, if true, the left is going to scream because it fits the preconceived belief.

Garland won’t reveal the affidavit in support of the warrant, so we won’t know anything. Releasing the warrant and inventory is meaningless.

I agree with McM. I don’t think Trump would know what to do with nuclear material.
Not at all meaningless.

It doesn’t matter if he wouldn’t know what to do with it (as scary as that is), it’s whether a foreign bad actor could get a hold of America’s nuclear secrets by bypassing Mar-a-Lago’s security team.

Let’s get serious here, do you really think they gave him the right codes in the first place?

I actually agree with you. I always thought he was a wimp on most issues if he didn’t care about them or understand them. I mean an 80 year old midget ran him over once Covid hit.

If the documents would have value to someone, even to a foreign adversary (maybe ESPECIALLY to a foreign adversary), what would be out of character at all for 45 to try to benefit from that value? All of his life is one grift after another.

Do I need to remind you that no members of the Trump family can have any business role in any New York based charity, after they literally stole money from lots of kids with cancer?

Yes, yes you do ... over and over and over .. but shorten it to "cancer kid defrauders" repeat it ad nauseum and feed them saltines when they finally repeat it back..

Masterclass note: If you make it into a meme, add "this is what they don't want you to know" it gets extra mileage.

Might have been worried about another hurricane

Oops shooter beat me to it

If the core reason for the seizure wasn't related to an active investigation then the timing is an issue. This story complicates things for DOJ, in my opinion.

There isn't an active investigation into stolen classified documents?

So the best defense for Trump taking and refusing to return classified material is that he didn’t know he had them and wouldn’t care anyway. See, when people like myself describe Trump as dangerous and unfit, this is exactly what we are talking about. The POTUS should know and care about these things. He doesn’t, never did, and never will.

Would you?

Trump is clearly effed up but he’s also clearly smarter than you.

Did the Saudis kill Khashoggi because he was all over this story? And is that why Trump licked the Saudi's boots?

It's funny to me those defending Trump or saying this is overreach by the DOJ are also the ones wanting the bad apples that rioted or looted in BLM protests to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

So they only feel strongly about being punished for breaking the law when it's black and brown people. But when white collar crimes are commited...eh....even if it's national nuclear secrets. NBD right?

It doesn’t take depth to focus on the bottom line. Trump clearly knows the value of nuclear weapons, nuclear codes and nuclear information.

Get real.

So how did the informant become aware?

The kicker to all of this is that Trump himself signed a law in 2018 that made it a felony to remove and retain classified documents.

He's f*cked.

I doubt the Khashoggi murder had something to do with this since he was still President when that happened.

Although I suppose it's possible that he took classified stuff to Mar-a-Lago then, but I don't think it would've been a bombshell kind of revelation at that time.

This underscores the tenuous nature of life on planet earth. Every four years we elect somebody to whom we will entrust the nuclear codes. We only need to screw it up once and poof!

This also underscores why conservatives need to tone down their rhetoric. This is serious business. Politics are all fun and games, conspiracy theories about the deep state are all fun and games, until you’re on the job and it’s your job to make sure that the planet doesn’t get obliterated. The United States is a good nation. We have a lot of good people. We have worked hard to create this nation and the price of freedom is constant vigilance.

What do do think the warrant and return tells us?
What was taken.

If the WaPo reporting is accurate and they seized classified documents relating to national security and our nuclear capabilities or other intelligence I care a great deal less about how they knew they were there than that they were there in the first place.

The PC would be full of the more salacious stuff for sure, but I really only care what was being kept.

From a curiosity standpoint, I am interested in why they looked in Melania's wardrobe. On one hand, when you're looking for small things, like papers, a search warrant would basically give LEOs the ability to look virtually anywhere in the house where a paper could be hidden. I have a hunch that they were tipped off that some things were being hidden in Melania's wardrobe. If that pans out, I think it's a really bad look for Trump.
