Megalomania. He and Trump are made for each other, but Trump will emerge on top once he's done with Musk.

I'm with you on this one. Someone else said something about the investigations into his various businesses...that probably has something to do with it. I seem to remember seeing/hearing what radicalized him was one of his kids coming out as transgender and him believing his kid was infected with the 'woke mind virus.' I think the Biden administration also sort of kept him at arm's length.
Once he bought his way into the Trump inner circle, my guess is that he thought it'd be fun. Given that there doesn't seem to be any real philanthropic efforts or hospitals named after the richest man in the world, it certainly isn't altruism that drives him .

They held an EV summit and didn’t even invite Musk. No honest broker can say with a straight face that the Biden Admin. didn’t unfairly target Musk.
Any administration of good conscience would have ended them as well.

Explain to me how cancelling a Starlink contract to provide rural broadband and replacing it with fiber being laid by cable companies for 10x the cost is anything other than political payback?

Musk lied or misled about Starlinks speeds. At least that's the reasoning given.
Fiber optic Internet can get to 10 gigs per second. Starlink can't sniff that. It tops out at around 200 Megs per second. But as you stated. Fiber optic lines are much more expensive. Once it laid it's far more reliable though.

Unfortunately my friend that dog just won’t hunt. Starlink demonstrated the ability to meet the necessary required internet speeds they promised when they were awarded the grant. FCC cancelled the grant anyway, PRIOR TO the deadline in which Starlink needed to demonstrate those speeds. The now head of the FCC made that clear in his dissent at the time.
Don’t defend the petty dipshits of the last administration. Bad look.
