Now if it was up to me, I'd have refused the vaccine, because I HATE shots. I still get nervous and involuntary clinch as I wait to have the needle stuck in my arm. But just like there is no VALID reason to NOT get a polio vaccine, there is no VALID reason to NOT get the covid vaccine...
All vaccines have side effects and contain a certain minimal degree of risk. But the main way Polio is transmitted is thru contaminated feces, compared to the 600,000+ who died from Covid and essentially contacted it by unknowingly breathing in infected air. Seems to me it's a lot easier to protect yourself from contaminated feces (don't usually have to worry about that in a grocery store) compared with unknowingly being exposed by someone who had the chance to get the vax and refused...
For example, the NCSU baseball team that forfeited their chance at a CWS was infected at both the unvaccinated and vaccinated level. While we can't definitively say that the vaccinated players were infected by unvaccinated teammates, it seems likely given the close proximity the team operated in during the season.
IMHO, it was extremely irresponsible of that coach and staff not to ensure that every player on his team was vaccinated, and it should have been a condition of being on the team. It seems he may have not wanted to "discriminate" against the unvaccinated, but the reality was that the players who chose not to get vaccinated basically put THEMSELVES in a no-win situation, and clearly didn't think things thru clearly...
They were SELFISH, and I don't know how they initially thought they wouldn't catch covid, and secondly didn't think their status would be revealed thru testing? Hey if you want to take a stand and not get the vax, then be prepared to be treated accordingly. Realize you maybe can't attend on-campus classes with everyone else, or at the very least play organized team sports.
You ARE going to get infected (the variables are HIGHLY infective) and testing will expose your infection. Just save everyone the hassle and isolate yourself with other idiots, instead of insisting that your "rights" supersede everyone else's. Ignorance is a (un) learned trait, not something you are born with. You can gamble with your life and your opportunities, but you don't have the right to (in the case of NCSU baseball) sabotage the opportunity of your teammates. If you can't be a good teammate and FOLLOW the rules, then don't join the team. Pretty damn simple...
The only remotely viable excuse for not getting the Covid shot is the distinction between emergency use and authorization, which in many cases is being argued by illiterates who don't even know the distinction and are politically posturing. A friend had open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. A total of 5 bypasses I believe. She’s having many difficulties in the weeks since. Bedsides the heart issues she has diabetes and overweight.
