Per the IndyStar article linked above, Archie Miller's staff still hasn't offered Leal a scholarship. Rivals rates him in the top 100 players nationally, so what's the hold-up on IU's part? The most maddening section of the article mentioned how Virginia has been showing sincere interest, and even sent an assistant coach to watch him play back in February.

It would be a massive failure on Archie's part to lose out on a top 100 prospect playing in IU's backyard...

I haven't seen Leal play but did see the kid from Culver Academy who did not impress me much so if we go for two guards I would choose Morton and Leal.

Leal is in same mold as the kid from Culver..
Maybe a tad better..
Idk guess he can play in the Big..
Last I saw he was..#77
.....If Leal plays for IU he'd better be a knock down 40%+ three point shooter And 80 % at the line guy. And he may be..They say your only as good as the guy you can gaurd..That'll be his problem.

Cline was a 3 pt. weapon at Purdue and he could not guard without fouling.

If recruiting sites are correct, IU only has extended a total of 6 offers for 2020, for what could be as little as 2 spots. Could be more depending on future transfers or if IU doesn't fill the remaining 3 spots for 2019, or if one or more of the spots go to a one year grad transfer. But at the moment, I think Archie is purposely being highly selective with offers.

I think what we might see is in the coming weeks once it becomes clear how the 3 open spots are filled (what positions? grad transfer? HS player?), that recruiting and offers will be recalibrated to fit needs. If IU fills a 2019 spot with a HS guard, that will significantly reduce the chance Leal gets offered

Ethan Morton is option number one and I do not think they will take them both as they play the same position.

His high-major offers are limited to Butler, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern, Stanford and Xavier. I'm wondering if more offers will flow in over the summer along the AAU circuit if he proves himself as a capable defender/shooter.

I agree with you here. Archie was at Morton's high school during IU's regular season, which shows me Morton is a major priority. In the past, I would have preferred Leal simply because he's an in-state kid. However, if Morton is far and away a better option, it's a no-brainer.

They do not play the same position. Morton is being recruited as a PG. Leal is a SG/wing. It has more to do with lack of scholarships than them both even being guards. It seems like CAM is all in on Morton and I'd expect him to go after a big with the other scholly.

As a Bloomington South graduate, I really want to see Leal at IU. Unfortunately, if there aren't at least 3 schollies available, or CAM misses out on Morton, Leal has a tough road to get there. Also, my nephew is good friends with him and it's widely known that if he gets an offer he will accept on the spot. CAM is recruiting him still though. Just hasn't offered.

I've been wondering about Leal all along.....hate to see an Indiana guy blah, blah......I'm all there. However..............I did see him in the game as TJD's team and he looked very unimpressive that game. I also saw him in another game in which he was not dominate. I don't think it's going to be a Guy/Virginia situation if we don't get him, but who knows?

Morton is a legit top 45 recruit in all the rankings I have seen. I think we will only a few grants to give so they have to be selective. It stinks but it is the way it is.

In fact Morton may be our number one priority in 2020.

I agree. He doesn't guard even a little bit. I can see why IU/Archie isn't interested.

I agree he was not impressive in that game against CG. He spent some of the time on defense trying to guard TJD and I thought he did a decent job considering he was over matched. He twisted his ankle pretty good middle of the game, but he did not look good up until that point either. I watched him against Silver Creek and he really looked good that game. Outside shot was falling and he took it to the rack quite a few times. He is a little quicker than he appears for a 6-6" kid. I was impressed with his defense that game as well as at times he was asked to guard a smaller guy and at times he was matched up against Trey Hoffman who is 6-8" ish.

Archie is waiting until all of the other recruits and avail schollies are in place before asking Leal who will accept as soon as offered. I hope Leal is a Hoosier for many reasons.

I thought I read he is a really good defender, so if he can shoot then lets get him.

yeah that is bs and makes it sound like Miller wants him because he can't get the other players. If I was Leal and that happened I would go somewhere I was actually wanted.

I watched the first half of the Silver Creek game and he was too passive for me. He did play good defense and must have stepped it up in the second half.

If IU is talking to Leal then he is wanted. There are other team needs with 5 avail scholarships. Archie has to be very judicious in his timing for offers to field a team that needs to competitive. I would love to have Leal at IU.

I just watched a highlight video of Morton. I can see why Archie wants him. The dude is an absolute stud! He’s under ranked because he’s white. He’ll come in his freshman year and be great. Hopefully he sticks around for a few years. I bet he ends up better than Herro and he’s leaving after a year.
