20 year old kids don't get tired.*

How do they lose their legs? Playing 15/20 minutes every other day? I'm sure they play pickup for hours and hours every day in the summer etc. I don't get the tired claims. At all. Is it unique to basketball? They're kids
Traveling takes a toll on energy.

IU didn't make any tired claims, the biggest proponent of that theory was Saint Mary's coach.

Yeah seems like Denver is always good. Bunch of Michigan and Minnesota schools
Denver hockey is great. 8 national championship banners help the atmosphere.

My grandson used to play Peewee over at DU. One day I was watching the varsity practice and was standing right behind a goal. The speed is unbelievable and the players are B I G. Much different from watching NHL or NCAA in the stands.

That's really cool!! I bet!

Isn't Notre Dame in the Big10 for hockey or used to be? Some weird non traditional conferences for hockey.

Edit they are , 6 teams it really makes more sense than these conference spread all over. BBall and football I guess can afford it. How is Creighton in the Big East in basketball? I know its $$$$$

They didn’t have to. IU looked like slugs after about 10 minutes of the first half. St Mary’s ran us out of the stadium. They are good, but I don’t think there was 30 points difference.

Explain how Denver is in the Big East in lacrosse.

Notre Dame is likely to lose by 40 then, given they had to play to double overtime in Dayton and then fly to San Diego for a game two days later against a good Alabama team.

Oh wait.... never mind

We would take 15 hour bus rides and play 90 minutes and 120 minutes with one halftime break on back to back days. Tournaments. Sometimes in rain and shit. Then team bus it back. Have a day off then practice and play again. If it's fatigue from travel maybe. But I doubt it. Hell look at D1 baseball. Or pro baseball. They constantly play. The amount of actual time these b-ball kids spend "playing" is nothing. They stand most the time. The game is super short. I guarantee they play pickup for hours on end. Day after day. I'm sure they were "sitting" in a private plane. Sorry I don't buy the tired bit. Not adequate time to prepare a game plan. Definitely! Gassed? Nonsense.

Regardless Woodson did an incredible job. First season and made the tourney. Mission accomplished.
You can’t compare baseball to basketball. You mostly stand around in baseball. Soccer would be a better comparison.

Notre Dame didn’t play 5 games in 8 days, in addition to travel. But they did look very good. In fact, they lost the first game in their tourney.

Notre Dame had a week between it's last game and the playin game.

Vs IU playing 4 game in 6 games and 5 in 8.

Big difference.
That is true.

I have heard a lot of basketball people say fatigue happens. Mc played soccer in college so I respect his idea that 48 hours is enough. But so far anyone that played basketball that has commented has said the fatigue is real. So I buy it.

The IU women had like 5 games in 10 days at the end, their coach was saying how exhausted they were at the end of the stretch.

I suspect if they trained for intensive situations they’d be better prepared. But they don’t. They train according to a normal schedule and then get socked with this at the end.

Marv maybe lurker has it. Because look at an nba schedule. They are playing two in a row and every other day and traveling week after week after week. And some of them are getting long in the tooth. So maybe it is was they're used to and conditioned to do

Colorado College used to be good a while back. Nebraska-Omaha is decent.

The AP blurb in the Denver Gazette.

Saint Mary’s 82, Indiana 53
PORTLAND, ORE. • Logan Johnson scored 20 points and fifth-seeded Saint Mary’s took advantage of No. 12 seed Indiana’s grueling recent schedule.
Tommy Kuhse added 19 points and six assists for the Gaels (26-7), who will play either UCLA or Akron in the second round.
Trayce Jackson-Davis had 12 points for Indiana (21-14), which arrived in Portland on Wednesday morning after an all-nighter because of flight delays from Dayton following its First Four victory over Wyoming.
Thursday’s game was Indiana’s fifth in seven days. Saint Mary’s came in fresh from a 10-day layoff.

I think the all nighter is worse than 5 games in 7 nights

I remember way back , jr yr of HS we had a class trip to Hawaii with the music dept. Now at our school at the time the music dept was a big deal. Always going to Macy's or Rose or Orange parade. Every 4 yrs there was a trip to Hawaii. So we bus to Chicago, 2 planes , one stops in LA leaves earlier . One nonstop with all of the equipment etc. So first time on anything more than a little 4 seater and all. Guy has a heart attack after we board. Takes 3 hrs , we take off and that is a long flight. We get half way over the Pacific and pilot comes on. They have overloaded the plane and hit headwinds. We have to turn around ...........first time in history of United Airlines it ever happened. We land in SF around midnight. Hoping to get some decent food only one place open at the time. We are on the ground for an hr refueling. Get a sandwich and me and my friends barely make it back on plane. By the time we get there we had spent 23 out of 24 hrs on that plane and they lost my luggage! I can imagine the uncertainty of the whole thing with the plane and switching etc. taking a toll. We were still going to lose most likely. I did meet Billy Martin at the airport at least

Wow!!!!

It was flat out nuts! People were freaking out on the plane. I was pretty calm and remember thinking damn another landing and take off. There was also a charter off a smaller island that used an older AFB that they didnt tell us it was a short runway and they basically took off over a cliff, just ran to the end the plane kind of dropped and then took flight.

How were you able to play your piccolo in Hawaii after all of that? 😁

In basketball, mental fatigue plays a big part when you play a lot of games in a condensed period. The players and coaches have to game plan and prepare for each unique opponent, along with the travel.

I’m good friends with the local High School coach where I live. Because of Covid, his section required the season to be shortened by a week. Along with having a rookie AD, his team was scheduled to play 8 games in 11 nights before the league season started. Nine of the eleven games were on the road. That’s preparing mentally for 8 different teams and being physically ready as well. His team suffered a few injuries as a result, and said they were also mentally drained by the time that stretch was over.

IU played a physical game against Wyoming, and winning probably took a huge weight off their shoulders. Add in the travel to the Coast and flight delay, you weren’t going to get their best shot.

St. Mary’s chilled in Moraga all week, going about their normal routine at home, then a short flight to Portland. Oh, and they’re pretty good too.😊

Yep, and they lost several of those games they probably shouldn’t have.

I don’t know about this, but a friend who is a coach also said that St. Mary’s is a hard team to prepare for. That we would have been better off with a team like Alabama or LSU.

They should, but it will never happen. The money hungry NCAA can't get enough of more and more. They don't care about the kids, they care about the $. See the atrocity of the CFP.
Maybe someone else pointed this out already but this comment just shows your ignorance because the NCAA doesn’t make a dime off of the college football playoff. They literally have nothing to do with it.
