#17 Softball heads to FL for 7 games

Thanks for the links to all of these baseball and softball articles. Had to chuckle when I read the IDS article. The picture included with article was of former head coach Michelle Gardner.

Sigh, non-revenue sports still gets little respect. Would they put a picture of Kevin Wilson or Tom Crean in a current football or basketball article?

IU takes game one of the USF tournament by beating Seton Hall, 6-2. Trainer pitched four innings of shutout ball and was replaced by Wood in the 5th. Wood eventually got into trouble in the 6th, having the bases loaded and one out. Wood was replaced by Goodin who gave up a single to score a run and walked a batter to force in another run (both runs charged to Wood.) Trainer was brought back in and struck out two straight batters to end the threat. IU got the two runs back by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Trainer finished the game in the 7th.

IU won their second game of the day, knocking off the host school, South Florida, 3-2. IU was down 2-1 going into the 6th, but scored two runs in that inning to win it. Trainer, as usual, dominated the game, giving up one earned run. What's new with her? IU plays Furman tomorrow to finish this tournament, and then it's off to the southern part of the state to play a double-header with Florida Gulf Coast on Tues.

IU loses to Furman, 5-1, coming up just short of a weekend sweep. Furman was just 7-14 coming into the game, and IU lost to a pitcher that was 0-7 coming into the game. Foor got the loss for IU.

Reading the box score, Goodin pitched 5.2 innings and gave up 2 runs. IU was down 2-1 when Foor came in in the 7th innning and gave up an add on run. How does Foor get the loss?

Actually, Foor came on in the 6th inning with it being 1-1 at the end of it. She was the pitcher of record when the winning run crossed the plate in the 7th.

I think the box score is wrong then. Because it said the Goodin gave up 2 earned runs. If the runs were attributable to Goodin, then it should have been her loss, no?

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that, but it is clearly wrong. Goodin left the game in the 6th and that inning ended with the score being 1-1.
