I witnessed a playing partner shooting two strokes better than his age today.

We had three foursomes this afternoon and played Shadowood in Seymour, IN because Timbergate had an event today. One of the guys in our foursome was 84 years old and he shot an 82 to help lead us to a win. We were -10 on the front nine and -9 on the back nine for an 18-hole total of -19. That said, we won the front, tied for the back and won the total.

Most of the guys in our group played the middle tees, but he played a shorter set of tees. Still, he came through for us under pressure in our two-best-ball format. There were numerous times that we needed a putt to keep from losing a stroke and he came through every time. It was amazing!

We teed off at 12:15 this afternoon and had to battle light rain most of our round. I had two birdies today and one of them counted as a net eagle because we were using our handicaps. Mine was a 14 today, by the way.

Fisch wins …

2022 NFF Chris Schenkel award. Congrats Don Fischer!

https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2022/7/...nored-with-2022-nff-chris-schenkel-award.aspx

Listening to Fisch on away games was priceless in the days before cable tv, and rivalry week was Buckeyes and “that team up North“ followed by events from the LA Coliseum or Pasadena Rose Bowl, and “Whoa Nelly” would often be heard from Keith Jackson during one of those games.

Employment and employees

I get really confused by the stats I read where more jobs are being filled under this administration. I just went to 4 fast food restaurants in my area that have been around for years and 2 were closed temporarily due to staffing and 2 had their lobby’s closed temporarily due to staffing? I’m sure glad I don’t own any of them, feel for the owners.

Gotta love those Indiana judges

A judge from the White Castle shooting a couple years ago also hit her ex in front of their kids.

Judges out drunk at 3AM searching for a strip bar then starting fights? One wonders. Now that she agrees to never hold judicial office again, I guess political office will be next.

How to improve IUFB

As we saw with coach DeBoer and coach Wommack, having the right coaches improves IUFB. We also saw those coaches often leave for HC positions so how can IU hold on to very good coaches? I think we have a very good staff once again; we will see this Fall; will they stay for years as coach Shelby has?

It takes very good players to have an excellent team, it takes very good coaches to really move a team up in the B1G. With the new coaches in the league, we are seeing schools work hard to improve their football programs so life is getting tougher every year for IUFB and all the teams in the B1G.

I hope the coaches brought in this year are the right coaches to make IUFB better and win more games. Will our RBs have more moves, will our receivers be more explosive, will the DL be more active, and will our LBs be more active making plays.

As much as this season is important, I want to see the type of players our new coaches bring in. Can they recruit better athletes with more "wiggle" in their abilities to improve the play on the field.

Student Loan Forgiveness

I'd be curious to hear the board's thoughts on this in a single thread as I know we've all discussed it randomly in other threads. I don't really want to get into what it really is, which is just more pandering to the far left and bribery for votes in advance of the midterms, but whether it's the right thing to do.

At some point there has to be a recognition that people obtained degrees that don't pay for themselves. I won't call them worthless because i love school and learning and believe there is value in personal edification. Unfortunately the rising costs of college have rendered this more of a privilege than any sort of entitlement. Personally I am against forgiveness. I'm even against means tested forgiveness. I would support ending penalties and interest, and I do believe that after a set period of time, ten years or whatever, they should be dischargeable in bankruptcy, but I don't think it's fair to the people who 1) worked hard and sacrificed to pay theirs off and 2) prioritized other investing like real estate or starting a business that didn't work out. At some level isn't debt just debt? Finally I think/hope crippling debt could have a byproduct benefit of reevaluating education and the cost of same.

Optimistic Greg Doyle Article

Several years ago, I commented on an article that Greg Doyle wrote about I.U. I was immediately attacked, and several people said that Greg Doyle never wrote anything positive about I.U. "He hates I.U.." several people said, "and he always puts I.U. down." If any of that was true, than I.U. fans should be very optimistic about Doyle's assessment of the I.U. basketball team's prospects for this year. In Doyle's recent article, he says that the I.U. freshmen are legit, and the sky is the limit in regard to the possible achievements of the team for this year.

Where are you cutting back?

I know a lot here are quite well off and not bothered with inflation but just wondered what regular people are cutting out.

We’ve finally gotten to the point of being squeezed. We have cut eating out drastically. Once a week max. Usually Friday night Mexican takeout. Also didn’t renew my Colts tickets. Really a good excuse as I really didn’t like going anymore. Our annual Fall Break is looking iffy as well. Would rather save the money for a rainy day.

I don’t really know how the middle class is handling this. Credit card debt I assume.

Reuters: 2,000 Mules is Nonsense

“2000 Mules” does not provide any concrete, verifiable evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. Technology and election integrity experts consulted by Reuters also did not find the geolocation, surveillance or any other information presented showed plausible evidence of fraud.

Why Would Schumer Do This???

Perhaps it's time for Chuck to undergo a Security Check update.....
