I was reading a thread on an old forum about Civilization 6, a strategy game that is notorious for long turn times. That is to say, in the late game, as it gets more complex, when you hit "next turn," it takes several minutes for the AI to go through all the AI player turns and get back to you. Several posters mentioned that they always had a second activity to keep themselves occupied while waiting for this to happen.
Anyway, the game doesn't matter. What I realized is that at some point, I began doing the same thing. Right now, from my couch, I can watch the TV (which I am doing), but I also have within reach a laptop, phone and hardcover book, all available to occupy myself during commercials. I further realized that this is pretty normal for me, now. If I'm lying in bed with a book, it might have my full attention, but if I'm in the living room, I almost always have multiple things going on at the same time. I don't watch TV without a book next to me. I don't play a video game without the TV turned to an interesting background channel.
Anyone else?
