Nebraska@IU, Game 1: IU 8 Neb 7. IU gives up a 9th inning 3-run homer but hangs on for the win.

RHP Jack Perkins with an ERA of 4.22 in 49 IP is on the mound for IU, while RHP Shay Schanaman with an ERA of 3.66 in 51.2 IP is on the mound for the Huskers.

In Neb's 1st, Perkins gets off to a good start with two Ks to start the game. A ground out ends the 1st for Huskers. Nebraska has just one hitter hitting over .300 and that is Nick Wimmers who hitting .318 and he is batting in the 5th spot.

In IU's 1st, Whalen struck out swinging on a 3-2 count. Jessee grounds out. Pyne hits a two-out double to put a runner in scoring position. Ellis walks on four pitches. Tibbetts doubles to score Pyne with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and IU with a 1-0 lead. Mathison is hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Doanes strikes out to end the inning and leaves the bases loaded.

Taxation without representation

SCOTUS ruled in favor of the government against a resident of Puerto Rico who wrongly accepted SSI benefits for years until the feds decided he owed them some $30K in mistaken payments.

SCOTUS' ruling is absolutely correct. Congress is not required to implement the same tax/benefit scheme in the territories that it does in the states. And it's true that Puerto Ricans are exempt from several federal taxes, including the all-important income tax.

But they do pay other federal taxes, including the FICA tax that ostensibly funds the SSI that they are not eligible for. I wonder if it is high time for us to simply bring the insular tax scheme into line with the stateside one. (Or, failing that, should Puerto Rico just be a state already?)

Rivals Team Ranking Calculator

I try not to get too caught up in the rankings but like any fan I pay attention and like to tote a "top x class" when talking with my buddies about the trajectory of IU basketball. That being said, I just took a quick glance at the rankings and am puzzled how the points are being calculated? I'm sure there's a metric or point allotment I'm missing on the surface but how can this be true:

9. Illinois- Consists of 4 4-star players
13. Indiana- 2 5-star, 1 4-star, 1 3-star

Average star/player doesn't get you to Illinois. Number of recruits doesn't get you to Illinois. What am I missing here?

The Moskva - looking worse by the hour

Some reports claim 450 are unaccounted for, and now there are claims it sank with two nuclear warheads on board. Largest wartime sinking since WWII. What a shitshow for the Russians

So Indiana is locked in with Adidas until 2024... When do the negotiations start? Can IU get away?

I came here to ask when it ran out, then realized the google machine could tell me and found this great IDS article
IDS Adidas

I like adidas gear, they make some quality stuff and overall the branding isn't terrible... except when it comes to IU gear and college gear in general. I am very hopeful that Woody really pushes to get IU out from ADIDAS.

I'm curious when the negotiations start, when conversations start to trickle out about if there might be a move to something else (Nike or Jordan brand dear god)
Really interesting breakdown about apparel deals in College sports, and how the Big10 of all major 5 conf is the only one without a Nike majority (50%) the big reason being UA influence. 1 School is Jordan Brand (LINK)
Nike Schools in B10 - 3 East, 4 West
Illinois
Iowa
Mich St.
Minny
OSU
Penn St
Purdue

Meanwhile Adidas with 3-
Indiana
Nebraska
Rutger

UA -
Maryland
Northwestern
Wisconsin

Jordan Brand -
Michigan

Jordan Brand is the most interesting to me... look at the schools the represent... Some big heavy hitters in college sports, either in a major market, or dominate in 1 sport. IMO, if this is really appealing.
  • California, Florida, Houston, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, UCLA

Either way, there is a red headed step child of the group. And it's name is ADIDAS.

Overall, the schools covered by ADIDAS compared to NIKE nationally... It's night and day. Outside of a few brand names (Kansas). ADIDAS teams are rarely dominate programs... Wonder why?
  • Arizona State, Arkansas State, Central Michigan, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, FAU, FIU, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Louisville, Massachusets, Miami (FL), Miami (OH), Mississippi State, NC State, Nebraska, Nevada, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Rice, Rutgers, San Jose State, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Texas State, Troy, Tulsa, UTSA, Washington, Western Michigan, Wyoming
The highlights there are Kansas (in Basketball), TAMU (in football) and thats it? IU (kinda in basketball) Nebraska (kinda in football... like IU legacy brand) and Louisville ripe wish scandal repeatedly.

Shaedon Sharpe-KY NIL

If you haven't kept up with the Shaedon Sharpe Story then a few details. Shaedon is a 6'5" guard from Ontario and considered a top five NBA pick. He reclassified and signed with KY arriving on campus in January. Apparently Calipari signed a document saying he would practice with the team but Calipari agreed not play him this season. As best I know Shaedon agreed he would play for KY next season. Anyway as soon as on campus he signed a couple NIL deals and got a new Porsche from an NIL with a Porsche dealership. Now he is declaring for the draft and will never play for KY. Couldn't happen to a more deserving program but illustrative of the NIL benefits available to top players.

Louis Vuitton store in Kenwood Towne Center in Cincinnati cleaned out.

Not by a shopper, but by a crew of 8-10 masked and hooded looters. Happened mid-afternoon yesterday. An upscale mall in suburban Cincinnati. Cleaned out the store in a few minutes. $413,000 worth of merchandise.

Maybe we’d all be better off if they had gone to the food court and cleaned out Panda Express.

Seriously, is anyplace safe anymore?
