Best TV episodes

I'm just trying to throw out something new and nonpolitical. We already have a movie/book/TV thread, but I wanted to know what your favorite single episodes of shows are. Forget how good the show was overall, just what are those single blocks of 30 or 60 minutes that really stick with you?

Here's a few:

The West Wing "Take This Sabbath Day" - Bartlet and his staff consider how they feel about the death penalty and politics both, and it ends with Bartlet's realization that he didn't live up to his own principles, brought about by a superb performance in Karl Malden's final role.

The Newsroom "5/1" - Lots of good stuff about this episode, but the various scenes where characters reveal the death of OBL to other characters are just phenomenal. Thomas Sadoski as Don on the plane is especially poignant.

Futurama "Jurassic Bark" - Probably the saddest thing I've ever watched on the small screen. If you aren't already familiar with it, I won't ruin it for you.

Game of Thrones "The Winds of Winter" - The first 20 minutes of this episode constitute pure art. The music, the acting, the directing, and very little dialogue. It's just brilliant.

Rome "The Kalends of February" - Ciaran Hinds' end of the Caesar arc of this series was completely different from classical interpretations, but it was probably the best.

What else ya got?

O.T.: Bison Gores and Launches an Ohio Woman In Yellowstone N.P.

My avatars cousin called and said he wants to get his side of the story out as he's being vilified in the national press...

He said he could have dealt with her acting like she was in a petting zoo and foolishly trying to get a closeup selfie..., but what pushed him over the edge was the fact that she was attempting to kick start an o-h-i-o chant...

He said it's one thing for the idiots to do it inside every restaurant, hotel lobby, and opponents school union nationwide but he wasn't about to stand for it in his domain...

He also wants the public to know that he just gave her a slight nudge with one horn and only tossed her about 10 feet, which, he says..., is only a quarter of his actual launch range...

// Given the transgression, I'd say she got off easy... He gored and trampled a p u guy last year just for wearing a P hat... 😉

/////*[for those of you who might think this is in poor taste because the woman is dead..., well she isn't...; which pretty much sums up the state of journalism today (or lack thereof)... One outlet misreported that she had died and all the other "major legacy" networks (and newspapers) used the original erroneous story as their "source" without even making a phone call to fact check it (sound familiar?)... She is in reality, hospitalized and yes, I have little to no sympathy for her... If you purposefully move within a bodies length of a Bison or pretty much any unrestrained wild animal you have this sort of thing coming to you, in my opinion...].*/////

Arrinten Page

Sounds like he is going to visit. Pretty good read.

I hope a bomb is dropped on the NRA convention.

Effing ghouls.

So, I don't want to ever hear the following arguments ever again out of the GOP:

1. Only good guys w guns stop bad guys w guns - bullshit. Big tough Texas cops let that kid hang out in that school for 40 minutes.

2. Mental health - bullshit. A kid crashed his car, donned all in black carrying a rifle after shooting his grandma and still found time to make his way into a school, passed security somehow. Nobody thought the kid a bit odd in those few moments?

3. 18 year olds should be able to buy ARs but not rent cars - give me a break, dudes.

How the party of God has draped itself in this 2nd Amendment gobblygook is beyond me.

That NRA convention should be cancelled and I'd bet my retirement and house that God and Jesus agree with me.

Friday Recruiting Notebook - June 3

Indiana's team camp takes place this weekend and that means it's a great -- and easy -- opportunity to get a handful of recruits on campus unofficially.

Some notable prospects taking part in the camp, we've confirmed, and thus on campus, are: 2023 commit Gabe Cups (Centerville, OH), 2023 hybrid guard Joey Brown (North Central), 2023 forward JQ Roberts (Bloomington North - offered), 2024 guard Jonathan Powell (Centerville, OH - offered), 2024 guard Travis Perry (Lyon County, KY), 2025 forward Trent Sisley (Heritage Hills - offered), 2025 guard Jalen Haralson (Fishers - offered).

Centerville will actually play both Fishers and Lyon County at one point this weekend, so Cupps will go up against Jalen Haralson and Travis Perry.

---

The biggest development over the week has been the visit of 2023 forward TJ Power. He told TheHoosier.com last weekend that Indiana wanted him to visit June 8-10 and he was pretty locked into that but yesterday decided to push it to the fall.

He told TheHoosier.com that the reason for that was family stuff that was already set for that weekend or around that weekend.

He is coming off of an official visit to Virginia but doesn't have any other visits set at this time for June.

Of UVA's pitch: "He (Tony Bennett) said that they would utilize my versatility and run me off of a lot of off ball screens. I would be able to play a 3/4 position and move around a lot."

Indiana is still in the lead group with Notre Dame and UVA but obviously a visit already taken to Virginia does hold weight.

We will have more on Power later today or this weekend after speaking with him at the EYBL session last weekend.

More on Power after his IU offer:

2023 forward Arrinten Page took an official visit to Cincinnati earlier this week and is planning to take one to Indiana this summer. No dates are for certain at the moment but looking for one late in June if her can get there.

Right now the core programs are Cincinnati, USC, Missouri, Indiana.

We spoke with Page over the weekend in Louisville and here was some of the tidbits on Indiana:

"Coach Woodson tells me about the strong use of post guys and how he is really trying to get all of his guys involved in the offense... it's (Indiana) a big family. There are a lot of good dudes there."

"He's (Yasir Rosemond) a cool dude. Very young. He knows about the younger generation so I can relate to him (easily)"

On his recruiting process, he says he is now pretty focused on his recruitment:

"Very seriously (in recruitment mode). From the education, how they play, the environment, I'm taking in everything."

Page struggled earlier in the weekend but had a strong showing on Monday last week.

---

2023 forward Coen Carr has fallen off of the radar a bit due to his finger injury that caused him to miss all of the spring up until last weekend in Louisville. He returned and had a terrific showing, averaging 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game over the weekend. He also shot 60.4 percent (29-of-48) from the field.

The biggest part of his game that is in question is his shooting ability. He is one of - if not the most athletic player in the class so that hides some of his inconsistencies from the perimeter. He was 2-of-9 last weekend from three.

Indiana wants shooting on the wing so it has prioritized shooters. Carr is still on the radar, however.

He told TheHoosier.com that Indiana, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina are the main schools involved at the moment. Tennessee, Vanderbilt are two other programs that have been involved in the recruitment. To what extent, we will see. He mentioned Baylor began to reach out.

He's looking to set visit up with Clemson, potentially Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

At this point, he said he's looking to make an August decision. We'll see if that holds.

Some big news related to 2024 wing Liam McNeeley was yesterday when he announced he would be transferring to Montverde Academy (Fla.) A Texas native, this is a significant development.

He holds an offer from Indiana but getting him out of Texas was going to be difficult if he stayed. Not only does he leave the state, but he heads to a program where Indiana now has a strong connection.

Indiana has two 2022 players in Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau who were huge factors in the success of Montverde over the past two years. Indiana also is targeting Montverde 2023 wing KJ Evans and 2024 center Derik Queen.

On Indiana, McNeeley told TheHoosier.com: “I mean, he (Woodson) was in the league for like more than I’ve been alive so he knows what he is talking about of course. I mean, he’s just a great basketball mind and glad that he is reaching out to me."

College coaches can't make direct contact with 2024 recruits until June 15, so expect the communication to really take the next step then.

McNeeley is ranked No. 11 in the 2024 class and has offers from Texas, Texas Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Stanford, SMU, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and others.

Brian Walsh has been involved.

We will have a full interview with McNeeley later today.

2024 Brownsburg (Ind.) / Indy Heat prospect Kanon Catchings continues to have a strong spring and that resulted in an offer from Purdue this week.

Indiana continues to stay in touch with Catchings and there is the expectation that the relationship could continue to develop over the summer months.

Indiana's freshmen class arrived on campus yesterday as offseason work begins next week.

In anticipation of tomorrow: A couple of D-day first person interviews...

Both are long but both are worth a listen if you have the time...

It's important to remember that both on the airborne assault and the amphibious assault very little went as planned and it was the raw courage and initiative of the individual Soldier, Sailor, and Coast Guardsmen that finally carried the day...

To me, at least, that's always been the real story of D-Day...

Draft deadline has passed....

and 5 B1G teams are ranked in top 25...IU in at 16

CBS Sports: College basketball rankings: Gonzaga gets good news, UCLA drops in Top 25 And 1 after NBA Draft deadline.

This is nuts...(literally)

So this is not actually a political channel. But from the moment one of these Bell Life videos first showed up in my you tube feed, it was pretty obvious where they fit in the political spectrum... They are from the Kentucky side of the Cincy area, and I think there are 3 brothers ( these two and a step brother) who all have houses down the street from each other. They basically do stupid stunts for you tube views, and it usually involves some form of competition . Depending on the topic, some are mildly amusing and others crack me up...

It's basically mindless entertainment- they yell at each other and stage competitions for bragging rights. This showed up tonight and who doesn't enjoy watching brothers prank each other? It's like a 21st century version of the 3 stooges.

While I've seen some of their videos where the oldest brother is wearing a MAGA cap, they don't uniformly wear Trump gear in their videos. In fact I didn't even notice what the older brother's shirt said until he jumped up squealing after the first nut shot. But amidst the lunacy of the dog grabbing the balls and bean bags and the wife trying to chase down the dog, the shirt just seems to complete the picture...

And yes, if he was wearing a Biden shirt I'd still think the video was pretty funny...

Friday Funnies

James is walking on a downtown street one day, and he happens to see his old high school friend, Harry, a little ways up ahead. "Harry, Harry, how are you?" he greets his old buddy after getting his attention.

"Not so good," says Harry.

"Why, what happened?" James queries.

"Well," Harry says, "I just went bankrupt and I've still got to feed my family. I don't know what I'm going to do."

"Could have been worse," James replies calmly. "Could have been worse."

A month or so later, James again encounters Harry, in a restaurant. "And how are things now?" he asks.

"Terrible!" says Harry. "Our house burned down last night."

"Could have been worse," says James, again with total aplomb, and goes about his business.
A month later, James runs into Harry a third time. "Well, how goes it?" he inquires.

"Oh!" says Harry. "Things just get worse and worse. It's one tragedy after another! Now my wife has left me!"

Harry nods his head and gives his usual optimistic-seeming little smile, accompanied by his usual words: "Could've been worse."

This time, Harry grabs James by the shoulders. "Wait a minute!" he says. "I'm not gonna let you off so easy this time. Three times in the past few months we've run into one another, and every time I've told you the latest disaster in my life. Every time you say the same thing: 'Could have been worse.' This time, for God's sake, Harry, I want you to tell me: how in Heaven's name could it have been any worse?"

James looks at Harry with the same little wisp of a smile. "Could have been worse," he says. "Could have happened to me."
