At least I finally did something on the golf course today.

We had four foursomes today and played our normal stableford format at Timbergate. In our game, everybody has a quota that can vary from round to round based upon our performance in our previous round.

I haven't been playing well, so mine was a 16 today. Unfortunately, I blew several opportunities to have a par or bogey on the first four holes and didn't contribute until the fifth hole. I only had six points at the turn and the group behind us was 10 over quota after nine holes versus our 4 over quota after nine holes.

Once again, I blew several opportunities to contribute on the back nine and only had five points after eight holes. Fortunately, I hit a 240-yard drive down the middle of the 380-yard 18th hole and then hit my 8-iron 140 yards to wind up about eight or 10 feet from the pin. I then made my birdie putt and wound up one point short of my quota for the round.

After our 16 golfers paid $20.00 each, we discovered we lost the front nine, but won the second nine and total for $60.00 each. Thank goodness I made my birdie putt.

Mathison, Pyne, and Tibbetts named to Freshman All-America team...

IU was one of four programs nationally to have three or more players on the team which was announced by College Baseball Newspaper. IU was the only team to have three position players on the team. Here's the link:

Ryan Day Says it Out Loud

Yahoo Sports is reporting that Ryan Day told Columbus, OH businessmen that OSU has collected $13 million for NIL purposes to pay for players. He says that a quality quarterback will cost $2 Mil....

How sad that college football has come to this.

From Cleveland.com:

Day said the Buckeyes have been gathering information by talking to recruits and their families and getting a sense of what other schools might be discussing with NIL deals. He said he believes right now top-shelf quarterbacks require $2 million in NIL money. Major offensive tackles and edge rushers he said are about $1 million.
If you can’t match that, other teams might have a chance to pluck key players from your roster. Day told the assembled potential NIL donors that every player on the team could go in the transfer portal when this season ends, and then field calls from other schools who might be offering NIL deals. Players may feel they have to take that money to help their families.

Pre season rank

I see us as high as 9 and commonly in the 10-15 range.
It seems high to me.
I agree Race and Trace are nice bigs and JG off the bench will help. But I am not sure what we have in Logan, and Kopp is not a rebound banger.
Malik is highly ranked but so was Lander; hard to count on a Freshman as a guarantee. Same with Shiff.
To really battle for a big title, to beat Michigan in AA, PU in West Lafayette, etc, we need some combo of Trace develops a midrange shot, Tamar and/or JG make a leap, and Jalen can play as a sophomore.
Maybe I am too glass half empty.

TJD has a legit chance to finish his career as IU's leader in both Rebounding and Blocked Shots... and 3rd in scoring

Rebounds:
Alan Henderson is the current career leader with 1,091 rebounds. TJD is 9th with 797. He needs 294 rebounds, or 9.8/game over a 30 game schedule. That's a big ask considering his career average is 8.5; however, if IU plays 35 total games (not out of the question with BTT and NCAAT), he needs to average 8.4 across that number of games, which is right at his career average. At worst if he averages 8/game over 30 games he'll finish 3rd, just ahead of Benson.

Blocks:
Jeff Newton is IU's career leader in blocks with 227. TJD is 7th on the list with 178. So 49 blocked shots will tie him with Newton, which is 1.63/game over 30 games. His career average is 1.9 and last year he averaged 2.3/game. I fully expect TJD to finish his career as IU's all-time leader in blocked shots.

Points:
He's not catching Calbert, we all know that! He's not catching Alford either. TJD stands at 1,588 points with a career average of 16.9/game. Last season he averaged 18.3/game. If TJD averages 18.3/game, same as last year, over 30 games that would put him at 2,137, good for 4th, just ahead of Guyton and behind Schlundt. He'd have to average 20.13/game to pass Schlundt. If we do in fact play 35 games, 18.3/game (last year's average) would move his easily into 3rd on the all-time scoring list with over 2,200 points (Schlundt finished his career with 2,192).

All that said, with a better team and more help on the inside with Renault, maybe TJD doesn't have to put up those big numbers. And perhaps he doesn't play as many minutes because Woody will be able to give him more of a break. Either way, he should finish in the top 3 in rebounding and top 5 in scoring. Should be fun to watch this as a side story throughout the season, assuming we're winning as much as we think we will!

What do you miss about college life the most?

They always say that college life was the best part of our lives. So what is it you miss?

1. Cheap alcohol -- those happy hours in Bloomington were amazing. Beer jugs, Margarita pitchers etc.
2. Inexpensive pussy -- nowadays you have to wine & dine and hopefully not say politically incorrect things before you get the good housekeeping seal and nooky. It seems like the older you get the more expensive it is to get laid. But the quality is a lot better after college.
3. Not having to worry about bills as much.

Growing up sux big time.

Stats for this weekend

Let's see... in our cities 70+ shootings with over a dozen killed, yet Brandon and his ilk blame the evil (gasp!) NRA and it's members (terrorists, racists, etc.. etc..). The brilliant AO (what's a garbage disposal?) C pans, "We have to do something big... something really big... you know... big..." yet refuses to address the real issue because it's too "big" for her limited ability to think and reason. To quote a certain guy who enjoys having his white hairy legs rubbed: "Look... Listen... for the love of god (Molech)... Listen... Look... Uhhh... Look..."
