Anyone seen Little Feat lately?

I’m taking in the Waiting For Columbus tour tonight and wondering what to expect. No Lowell George of course and Craig Fuller has moved on as well. Only original member left is Bill Payne but a couple other long term members will be there. They are celebrating the 45th anniversary of the 2 record live album Waiting for Columbus that was released in 1977 by playing it in its entirety. I compared the set list to my personal 31 song Little Feat playlist and only 5 songs in common so not sure how into it I will be. Maybe they’ll hit a couple more on my playlist as encores.
Has anyone seen this tour and can comment on encores?

Will monkeypox be the next one?

Don't know much about this yet, but there was a case or two in the U.S. in the past. Stay tuned.

Bannon: Guilty of contempt of Congress

A mod could move this to the "only good news" thread if you like.

Sentencing takes place Oct 21. Bannon faces a minimum sentence of 30 days in jail, according to federal law.

Question about Secret Service data

Is there some technical reason the Secret Service's deleted texts can not be recovered from backup systems or from carriers?

There are several articles online describing how an ordinary cell phone user can obtain copies of deleted texts from the carrier. For example:

While the Secret Service's cell phones, backup systems and carriers are probably more sophisticated than those of the average T-Mobile user, I would still think the Secret Service ought to be able to retrieve deleted data from its own equipment and carriers (like they do when investigating other people).

So, is there some technical reason they can't?

Would you endorse a rule that says no contact (blocking or tackling) below the waist . . .

. . . as a means to reduce injuries to football players? I mention this because the SEC commissioner, Greg Sankey, said something similar on Atlanta Sports Radio today during the SEC Media Days, and I'm interested in what BiG fans think of the idea.

Yes.

No.

BTW, one of the hosts of the radio program was trying to position Mike Penix as a third best Heisman candidate after Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, and got no takers. He's a University of Washington alum.

B10 favorites versus returning production ?

The B10 may have laid an egg in the NCAAs last year, but there’s no arguing that it had star power. The Hoosiers return 4 starters, their three top players (X/race/TJD), and by far the most production of any conference team. The best teams from last year all lost their best player (and they were all big Time stars).

there’s a big drop off from IU , and then we are staring at teams like PSU as far as returning production. In other words, if you look at the 2 links, you will see that aside from IU, the highest rated B10 teams have the lowest returning production, and visa versa.

The teams that dominated the league last year (especially PU, IL and MI) lost a ton. And yet, I see them picked as early favorites and top 25 (way early teams).

I expect the conference to be down, significantly. The Hoosiers have some questions, but far less than other teams.

Thursday Recruit Watching Notes - Peach Jam (Live period day 2)

It's day two of the live period this week meaning coaches can be out and about starting this morning.

Indiana's entire staff was at Peach Jam yesterday and were 4-deep for both 2023 four-star forward TJ Power and 2023 four-star wing DeShawn Harris-Smith.

2023 Sam Orme, 2024s Dylan Harper, James Brown, Nojus Indrusaitis, Liam McNeeley, Kanon Catchings and 2025s Jalen Haralson and Trent Sisley were some of the notable prospects Indiana's staff spent time watching yesterday.

Once again, games for Indiana targets start in about an hour and run through the rest of the night at Peach Jam.

TheHoosier.com is at Peach Jam this week but we will also gather updates from some other key events with Indiana targets such as: Adidas 3SSB (Seal Beach, CA), Under Armor (Chicago, Ill) and NY2LA (Milwaukee, WI).

Among the top 2023 targets, here is where each is playing:

2023 five-star forward Xavier Booker is in Milwaukee, WI (NY2LA)

2023 four-star wing Jamie Kaiser is in Seal Beach, CA (Adidas)

2023 four-star wing DeShawn Harris-Smith is in North Augusta, SC (Nike)

2023 four-star forward Arrinten Page is in North Augusta, SC (Nike) -- as a note, it's not expected Page will play the rest of the week with an injury.

2023 four-star forward TJ Power is in North Augusta, SC (Nike)

As always, we will have notes, live updates, analysis and updates on the IU staff throughout today.

I would expect the staff to be broken up today at multiple different events.

One Take Hits

One and Done

Getting something just right typically requires multiple tries, especially if you're a perfectionist. There are so many things that could possibly go wrong in the recording studio, even for superstar professional singers: bad pitch, achieving the right tone, tempo, and volume, and forgetting the words. And we're just talking vocals.

However, just as needles occasionally do show up in haystacks, sometimes singers nail a song on the very first try. Then, if the magic is really with them, that rare one-take song becomes a commercial success. Rare indeed! Here is a collection of hit songs by various artists and they were recorded on the first take. One and done!

Here are some of the one-take hits:

2 Really Good Meals in Chicago

I spent this week in Chicago at a conference with customers.

The event was at the House of Blues, which was a great venue to host a bunch people, and I hosted 2 client dinners.

Quartino was very good. Ended up being done family style for the 8 of us, so I was able to have a little bit of everything and everything tasted great. A couple of items were exceptional, the house made tortellini and the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. We had various pizzas, a sausage and risoto dish, Orecchiette and a ton of salumi and cheese plates. A client picked the wine, so I'm not sure what we drank beyond a pinot and chianti. The chianti was excellent. Great experience for everyone and not a bad word about anything from a single person in the party.

The next night we had 16 people at Gene and Georgetti. Everyone raved about their food. We drank our faces off. But again, somebody else ordered the wine and I was too busy with conversations to pay attention to what was being poured, so I'm not sure what we were drinking. Steaks ruled the day, but I saw pork chops and gnocchi being served too. I thought we went overboard on appetizers with calamari, sausage & Peppers, shrimp cocktail, prsciutto & barrata, and carpaccio.

This was the first time since the fall of '19 where we were able to attend a large event with clients and prospects. I had forgotten how much fun it is to be out and face to fae with people in that kind of setting. There was so much pent up demand for human interaction that you could tell how downright giddy some people were and everyone enjoyed themselves. It's crazy to think that a few of these people are annually spending a million plus with us and this was the first time we'd actually met face to face.

Jackson-Davis, Thompson named one of nation's best frontcourt duos

Rankings & how the 1-2 punch down low have utilized their chemistry to elevate their play. Story here:

CNN - "Nero (D) Fiddles While The US Burns"

During Obama, the Democrats weaponized the FBI/Department of Justice/IRS against their political opponents - exceeding even Nixon in abusing power.

The night the DNC figured out Hillary was going to lose, they decided to try and kill Trump with 1,000 cuts. 3-4 allegations a week. Doesn't matter if its tue - just get him to deny it.

When it didn't work, the had their sycophants call everybody racists for 4 years, faked a Russian collusion story which blew up on them, claimed Russian Facebook bots impacted the Hillary election but e-voting and mail ballots were impervious to fraud, impeached Trump and failed to convict, and now can't pin January 6 on him, while ineffectively handling at least SOME evidence that suggests they made January 6 a false flag event. (Word to the wise - you may hate him. but don't ever get cross examined by Cruz. If he could dial the pride back a couple of notches and tone down to "humble confusion by the evidence," he'd be the trial lawyer of his generation. But he's a political hack, so hiding his prick side is not possible. Then again, in these puppet shows, the prick side gets the necessary job done.)

So the Demidiots have strengthened Trump in a way his own party could not, while destroying the economy with decades of ridiculous energy policy, have removed the US a deterrent to Chinese and Soviet expansion, made North Korea bold again, and have the Supreme Court being threatened ala the GOP softball game, Rand Paul assaulted in his yard, McConnell picketed at home, etc.

The every-day democrat tells us "silence is violence" - so they admit to supporting all of this by failing to disabuse their party of these wrongful acts, and crime is surging in every city of any size.

Where is the Democrat equivalent of the Lincoln Project? Where are the Democrat equivalent of the "never trump"GOP movement? Nowhere. The Democrats are in lockstep, silently supporting their jackbooted thugs in the street with THEIR silence, and Maxine Waters still in office fomenting violence with every breath.

Shame.

And the first instinct against this post will be the regulars with "well, Trump ...."

Shorter TL/DR:

The current Democrat Party is an existential threat to the United States.
The GOP is wholly ineffective in delivering any message.

Thank God for my pain meds.

D1 Council approves basically unlimited transfers

College sports is a shit show at this point. I'm not sure my interest can be sustained much longer.

Can you imagine unlimited free agency every year in pro sports? Well, you don't have to, because it's coming to the college football and basketball campus near you.

Unlimited transfers, combined with unregulated NIL means a new free agency crop every single year. It's going to kill itself. I truly believe that and I don't think I'm being reactionary.
