The GOP nominee for Governor in Pennsylvania

"My policy is not to conduct interviews with reporters who aren't Christian or with outlets who aren't Christian and Doug has a very similar media strategy where he does not do interviews with these people. He does not talk to these people. He does not give press access to these people," said the Gab founder. "These people are dishonest. They're liars. They're a den of vipers and they want to destroy you. My typical conversation with them when they email me is 'repent and accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior.' I take it as an opportunity to try and convert them."

Hopefully this is the first step to purge Soros backed prosecutors...

Buh-bye.

Ryder Anderson getting some love

…from the NY Post. Interesting special teams nugget for him. Also mention’s Micah

Former Indiana teammates DL Ryder Anderson and LB Micah McFadden, a pair of undrafted rookies, both made plays in the preseason opener and have impressed the coaching staff.

Anderson, 23, made a great block, as did rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger, on Jashaun Corbin’s 34-yard kick return in New England. He got a great push to make a run stop on a 1-yard loss by Patriots running back Kevin Harris. And he showed great hustle on a fourth quarter tackle downfield on Pats WR Kristian Wilkerson as corner Michael Jacquet held him up.

Furthermore, Anderson, offensive lineman Will Holden and tight end Austin Allen all were practicing long-snapping after Monday’s practice. So that could be one more thing he proves he can do to Daboll and the coaches.

McFadden, 22, got a shoutout from Daboll last Friday for “making some good instinctive plays” in the game. This is interesting because defensive coordinator Wink Martindale had announced early in camp that “the inside backers, I’ve told them this, it’s an open competition. Someone needs to go up and grab that spot.” Blake Martinez has been out. Tae Crowder and rookie sixth-round pick Darrian Beavers have been running with the ones. And it would be a huge boost if McFadden could keep pushing the holdover Crowder, who ideally wouldn’t be starting.

Trump Cost The GOP The Senate in 2020 - and Will Again in 2022

Thanks.

Gave us the Biden Inflation Bill.

If he costs us the House in 2022 also - still a possibility - he will have "hard lined" us into the hands of socialism and worse.

Is Trump worth that?
Is he worth driving what y'all now call "RINO's" out the party and losing?
Or do you want to hold the House and block the socialist "what is a woman" crap?

Decide quick.

Killer whales rampaging off Portugal...

So i remember hearing a few stories about Orcas attacking boats off the coast of Portugal. A little bit of reading indicates that people first started to notice it in 2020, but I just heard about it recently so I thought it was something that just started to happen. It's weird because it does seem to be confined to the area where Portugal and Northern Spain's coasts meet and nowhere else in the Atlantic that I'm aware of...

They are always sailing vessels and the attack usually focusses on the rudder...An earlier account...

Now here's an account of an actual sinking from Aug 3, some 15 days ago when a party of 5 had to abandon ship and be saved by the Portuguese Coast Guard...

Now this is what sparked my interest this afternoon. I'm watching you tube and I see this video dated Aug 2 and it's some sort of travel vlog involving a guy who is sailing. I've never heard of the guy before but the scenery looked interesting so I started to half heartedly watch on my tv while doing other things on my computer. I see this pretty cool sequence where these dolphins are basically swimming along with the guy as he is sailing, and I'm half listening and I hear him say something about plans to meet up with friends at some point along the Algarve coast. So I discover for the first time that he's sailing off the coast of Portugal...

So he shows this pizza he's getting ready to cook, and I thought he was going to go into some sort of cooking bit. About the same time, I see this Orca suddenly appear, and the guy is just filming and it seems that the Orca is just curiously approaching the boat. But all of a sudden the whole atmosphere shifts and suddenly this Orca is going berserk and ramming into the boat. Then the guy mentions that it appears the Orca is intentionally attacking his rudder, and suddenly I'm making all the connections to other incidents. So I google and the story about the boat being sunk on Aug 3 pops up, and I go back and look at the date the video was published and it's Aug 2, the day prior to the sinking I had read about. So the incidents in this video predated events to happen to another vessel in that area within what I assume is the next few days and the coincidental nature of the situation kind of freaked me out...

It was obviously the last thing the guy in the video ever expected, and it seems he was extremely lucky to be able to contact the Coast Guard and have them relay instructions to him (like dropping his sails) that possibly defused the situation and calmed the killer whale down before it ended up sinking his boat.. And what's really eirie is that this guy didn't make a huge issue of the incident overall and mainly saw it as an inconvenience and encounter with a "pesky fish" that resulted in having to repair his rudder. But the reality is that in less than 24 hrs after he uploaded this video, another completely different group of people travelling in the same general area had much more serious encounter with a whole pod of Orcas with consequences that could have easily been very tragic...

This is very long, but the attack is over around the 13 min mark and that's about the point where I stopped watching...

OK Lawyers, how do we get a handle on....

....editing sound / video to promote a political agenda?

(Apologies for the long post to follow....)

We are all well aware of how social media (and even media in general) has been a detriment to society in some aspects, specifically in how false information is virally spread to people to affect their opinions.
So how do we put a stop to it?

Specifically, I am talking about what legal action can be taken currently (and/or what changes should we make if the current laws do not properly address the issue) to go after the Photoshop Warriors who have made a living off of altering photos for the purpose of promoting an agenda?

For example, in the Mar-A-Lago thread, the following picture was just added:
FaNg7xSWIAI45XD.png

This is obviously an image that is considered satire and should be considered "safe" from any kind of prosecution. This firmly falls into the "freedom of speech" type of argument that I am fine with.

But let's look at another example. This is the image from David Perdue's (Georgia) campaign team back in 2020 where they "accidentally" increased the size of Ossoff's nose to "enhance" his Jewish features in order to make him less appealing.
horunmduidwrm3wvcuds.png

Shouldn't this fall under a form of defamation or slander?

Same thing with edited video. There was a video posted a few days ago that was Desantis and Hannity talking about the Mar-A-Lago raid and it was a fake video that was edited from footage from a previous interview a year ago. It was found out to be fake and addressed accordingly, but it already added a little fuel to the fire that is already polarizing opinions. On the other side, there was a photo of the judge in the Mar-A-Lago raid that was edited from an old Epstein / Maxwell photo that was actually shown on Fox News and promoted as real. Proven fake thereafter, but still not helping matters.

So those are examples of people editing media in a manner that is in no way could be considered a parody or for entertainment purposes only. While "lying" is certainly not illegal in most cases, I would think that most of these types of media alteration could fall into the definition of defamation that could be proved in court.

Now, I am well aware of how difficult it would be to prove / hunt down the individuals who are responsible for most of these. I suspect that they alter the media and upload to social media which is then protected under the current content laws for that very reason.

However, I really do think that a decent chunk of the partisanship in this country is being fueled by altered media like this. Even when they are exposed as fake, often the damage has already been done and most of the people who read / received the original fake media never find out about it. It's not like their Facebook feeds offer a retraction to a post that you have received with the false media.

Also, things are only going to get worse. Deepfake technology is getting easier to create and make believable every day. It is not going to be long before we get to the point where it is nearly impossible to tell a fake from the real thing without specific training in that science. And let's face it, a lot of people are already very easily duped by this kind of thing because they want to believe it enough that they don't even question it anymore.

So what is the solution? I believe that the lack of prosecution of these kinds of changes has only emboldened people to keep doing it more and more. Is it a pipe dream to think that we can somehow go after these people due to a lack in technology to catch them, or are the penalties so light that it's not even worth the effort to try and convict? I imagine that the current penalty for prosecuting someone has to be tied to the damages that the targeted recipient suffers, but that is always fairly hard to prove. Is there a standard penalty that could be imposed (major fine? minor jail time) that we could put in place to send a message that this is no longer OK?

A frightening survey

A survey was done of Americans on the government and politics. Some takeaways, bolding is mine.

Third is growing uncertainty about the stability and value of democracy in the US. Most Americans across the political spectrum now perceive a serious threat to democracy in the US.5, 6 At the same time, nearly 70% of adults—with very similar results for Democrats and Republicans—agree that “American democracy only serves the interests of the wealthy and powerful.”7 Approximately 20% of Republicans, conservatives, and voters for Donald Trump (and 9% of Democrats, liberals, and voters for Joe Biden) disagree with the statement that “democracy is [the] best form of government.8
Fourth is the expansion into the mainstream of American public opinion of extreme, false beliefs about American society. Approximately 1 adult in 5 endorses the core elements of the Q-Anon belief complex, that “government, media, and financial worlds in the US are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles” (16%) and that “there is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders” (22%).9 Nearly 1 adult in 3 (32%) endorses the assertion that “a group of people in this country [is] trying to replace native-born Americans with immigrants.”10
Fifth is growing support for the use of violence to accomplish political or social objectives. More than a third (36%) of American adults (56% of Republicans and 22% of Democrats) agree that “the traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast that we may have to use force to save it.”7 Nearly one-fifth of adults (18%) agree that “because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country.”9
More than two-thirds of respondents (67.2%, 95% CI 66.1%-68.4%) perceived “a serious threat to our democracy,” and 88.8% believed it is very or extremely important “for the United States to remain a democracy” (Table 2). But at the same time, 42.4% agreed with the statement that “having a strong leader for America is more important than having a democracy”; 19.0% agreed strongly or very strongly.

New blocking scheme this fall

Zone schemes succeed when the OL can win at least a 50/50 standoff from the opponent across the line. And at least one OL can do better than 50/50 most of the time. HH’s profile on Bedford suggests zone schemes will be displaced in the new run scheme. And many of us will recall the story about Walt Bell installing the running game himself during spring practice.

“There are several factors at play including new personnel, younger players developing and a new offensive system under new offensive coordinator Walt Bell. A different system may place a different emphasis on certain types of blocking and the Hoosiers might move away from some of the zone blocking tendencies they mightily struggled with under Nick Sheridan’s play-calling. While the hope is that a change in scheme and the return of Bedford and Haggard leads to improved play for the line, the reality is that IU needs three people to step up on the interior. There are several candidates and the offense needs Matthew Bedford to be a standout performer to help the new starters on the inside progress.”
