Reggae...

On a serious Reggae jag at the moment. Started with a couple "Best of" and top 100 Reggae song play lists on Spotify and building from there. I'm enjoying hearing stuff other than Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, UB40, Peter Tosh, etc... Curious if you have recommendations for songs or bands to check out. Think Bowl for Two (The Expendables) and some of the crossover rap/reggae songs are favorites I've discovered. Whatcha got?

The Moskva - looking worse by the hour

Some reports claim 450 are unaccounted for, and now there are claims it sank with two nuclear warheads on board. Largest wartime sinking since WWII. What a shitshow for the Russians

IU@Rutgers weekend preview as IU shakes up their starting rotation...

Here's the link to the preview. Rutgers has the 2nd longest win streak in the country at 12 games and they are currently 27-6 overall and 8-1 in the B1G. They just came off a three-game sweep of Nebraska last weekend in Lincoln. IU has shaken up their weekend rotation for this one going with Modugno on Friday against what I assume will probably be Rutgers No. 1 pitcher in the rotation, which is what teams usually do with the Friday start. Perkins will pitch on Saturday and Brehmer on Sunday. Starting Modugno on Friday is almost as if Mercer is conceding a win on that day, with our best weekend pitcher going against what I assume will be Rutgers' No. 2 pitcher, and Brehmer, our No. 2 pitcher, going against their No. 3 pitcher. Modugno was our Friday starter at the start of the season, and he got battered in his starts and quickly ended up in the bullpen. He started the Indiana St. game and got through the 1st inning but got hit hard in the 2nd inning giving up three doubles and a single for 3 ERs and did not pitch the 3rd. Modugno has given up 15 extra base hits so far on the season, but maybe he's due for a good game (let's hope.)

Are the Russians engaged in genocide?

I agree with this from the article:

"The concept of genocide has to mean something more than doing truly appalling things that should be condemned by all decent people, or the word loses its meaning."

The Russians are doing a lot of bad things, but I don't think they meet the definition of genocide. I would also support a much stronger US response if what they did rose to that level.

I think reasonable minds can disagree here and am not sure how one comes down on this issue will be determined by partisan affiliation.

Do you multi-task leisure?

I was reading a thread on an old forum about Civilization 6, a strategy game that is notorious for long turn times. That is to say, in the late game, as it gets more complex, when you hit "next turn," it takes several minutes for the AI to go through all the AI player turns and get back to you. Several posters mentioned that they always had a second activity to keep themselves occupied while waiting for this to happen.

Anyway, the game doesn't matter. What I realized is that at some point, I began doing the same thing. Right now, from my couch, I can watch the TV (which I am doing), but I also have within reach a laptop, phone and hardcover book, all available to occupy myself during commercials. I further realized that this is pretty normal for me, now. If I'm lying in bed with a book, it might have my full attention, but if I'm in the living room, I almost always have multiple things going on at the same time. I don't watch TV without a book next to me. I don't play a video game without the TV turned to an interesting background channel.

Anyone else?

Biggest Team Need: Defense or Offense?

What does this team need more of? Offense or Defense?

  • Offense

    Votes: 54 98.2%
  • Defense

    Votes: 1 1.8%

Pretty simple and spawned out of multiple threads on both boards about potential portal pickups. Should we be focusing on upgrading our offense or doubling down on more defense?

Some food for thought: Here is how IU compares with the Final Four this year in offensive and defensive efficiency.

Old time television memories.

I was born in 1972 and grew up in the Detroit suburbs. Here are some things I remember.

One of the UHF stations would show an afternoon movie and there was an actual host for the show. Bill Kennedy.

Channel 9 CBC out of Windsor would go off the air at night. Go to test pattern.

Locally-produced daily talk shows (“Kelly and Company”).

WDIV, channel 4, the NBC affiliate, came up with its own one-episode sitcom, “Hamtramck,” about Polish-Americans in said city.

“Johnny Sokko,” “Ultraman,” “Deputy Dawg.”

Going to the sitter’s house after school, in the basement rumpus room, alone, ending up absolutely shattered after watching the “Twilight Zone” in which the earth is being fried by the sun - and the terrible, terrible twist at the end of the story. Also, the lady was in a slip for most of the time and her painting started to melt!

I loved “I Love Lucy.”

George Kell and Al Kaline were the announcing team for the local Detroit Tigers broadcasts.

EDIT. Count Scary.

2024 forward Raleigh Burgess continues to hear from Indiana

Long way to go in the recruitment of 2024 Ohio forward Raleigh Burgess but IU is planting itself in the conversation early.

@KylerStaley and @Knickoson got a chance to see him at the Adidas 3SSB event last weekend. Some video and quotes.
