Evanston food recs anyone?

Posted this on the national board but I may get an answer here too:

Heading to the makeshift stadium on the lake for the IU game tomorrow. Looking for:

1) No BS or hassle
2) Dogs/polishes/Italian beef/gyros/onion rings type place; need a local place, Portillo's type menu but not Portillo's.
3) No BS or hassle

I assume these are a dime a dozen but in that neck of the woods, I'm clueless.

Thank you.

And Go Hoosiers.

Friday Funnies

Stan goes out into his backyard and is shocked to see a gorilla in one of the trees. He runs back inside and calls animal control.

Twenty minutes later an animal control officer shows up and sees that it's true. He thinks for a while, then goes back to his truck and returns with a baseball bat, a German Shepherd, a pair of handcuffs and a shotgun.

He tells Stan, “Here's what we’re gonna do. I'll take this here bat, climb up there, and knock him out of the tree.

Stan says, “Okay, but then what?”

The officer says, “When he hits the ground, Brutus here is gonna go for his testicles.”

Stan says, “Okay, but then what?”

The officer says, “Well, when he tries to cover them with his hands, you slap on these handcuffs.”

Stan agrees and the officer starts climbing.

Stan yells up to him, “Hey, what's the shotgun for?”

The office replies, “Oh, right. If by some chance I fall out of the tree, shoot Brutus.”

Washington game time and parking

I just ordered three tickets, but am dreading, due to my commute distance, the possibility that it will be a night game. What do you think are the odds of a night game? Also the parking passes are sold out. How long before kick-off would I have to get there to get parking at the church across the highway? Any stories-from-hell about parking at the free garages and using the shuttle? Thanks

Have you heard of the TheoBros?

I hadn't, so this was certainly an eye opener... We throw around terms like Christian Nationalist with a vague idea of what some of these folks believe in and advcate for. I'm sure we have a few on this board- you can read the posts...

So hearing them advocate for things like repealing the 19th Amendment and replacing the Constituion with the Ten Commandments may seem like the rantings of a lunatic minority. But combine the interwoven ties to Project 2025, the fact that Peter Thiel is a main mover and shaker, and JD Vance is Thiel's guy and you can start to see how all of this has relevance for 2024 and beyond.

It seems like it's ultra, ultra MAGA and when you dig deep you can start to see why certain groups worked hard to promote Vance as Trump's running mate. And while Vance will work hard to transform his image and keep these links as hidden as possible, it's not as if he can disavow his connections to Thiel, who after all convinced him to run for the Senate and basically financed his campaign...

I knew some of this but had no idea how intertwined these various actors actually are. So on the oft chance that some others are in the same boat and are currently as ignorant on the subject as I was myself, here is the tip of the iceberg...

Could Helene be the difference?

Just spitballing here, but it seems to me that Helene is going to impact voter turnout in a lot of areas of FL, GA, and NC, and those areas will be predominately red/Pub leaning. With GA and NC being so close (and even FL being narrower than expected), would that be enough to put those states in the Dem column? Could that be the difference between a President Harris or a second Trump administration?
