An update – thank you!

Some of you may have seen, but my time at TheHoosier came to an end this week. I'm graduating from IU on Friday and Saturday night, and have both an internship with USA Basketball and am in search of post-grad full-time opportunities and otherwise.

These past two years have been incredible for me, and so much of it is possible due to your readership and engagement with my content – both on the site and on social media. They've held some of my favorite moments of my young journalism career. For the opportunities and platform I've been afforded, I'm *forever* grateful. I can't accurately express what that's meant for my career and my beginning. I hope you guys got as much enjoyment out of all of this as I did.

I came into this role a couple years ago with nearly no experience in this type of industry. I come out of it eternally gracious. From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys.

Big Ten (2 bids)

SAFELY IN: Nebraska

ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Purdue

ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): Illinois, Indiana, Maryland

One change from last week: Purdue replaces Illinois in our field of 64, keeping the Big Ten a two-bid league.

The Boilermakers swept a road series at Northwestern to move into a tie with the Illini atop the standings at 11-4, and the two teams are back-to-back in the RPI at No. 62 and 63. We feel like the Big Ten will wind up as a two-bid league, and Nebraska is the only team with an obvious at-large resumé, sitting at No. 20 in the RPI with a 10-5 conference record. If a team other than the Huskers wins the conference tournament, Nebraska will get an at-large bid, making this a two-bid league. But if Nebraska wins the conference tournament, the best path to an at-large bid for the Big Ten would be if a team other than the Huskers can win the regular-season title, and right now the Boilermakers and Illini have that narrow one-game lead over Nebraska, Indiana and Michigan, all of whom are tied at 10-5. It feels like a coin toss between Illinois and Purdue, but we gave the nod to the Boilermakers because they get to host Illinois in the final weekend, so we’ll give the edge to the home team.

Indiana (No. 67 RPI) and Maryland (No. 40) are also both in the hunt, but both have a lot of work to do — as do Purdue and Illinois, really. The Hoosiers have rebounded from a rocky start against a tough nonconference schedule, reeling off five straight weekend series wins to climb back into the 60s in the RPI, with crucial road series coming up at Purdue and at Nebraska over the next two weeks. Should Indiana win both of those, they’ll likely secure themselves as an at-large team. IU also finishes with a home set vs. Michigan, so the Hoosiers must run the gauntlet against three of the teams currently separated by one game atop the standings. If they get in, they will have earned it. Maryland, meanwhile, is just 8-10 in the league, but a series win vs. Illinois this past weekend kept hopes alive for the Terps. The RPI gives them a shot, they just need to keep winning series to climb the standings. A 5-1 showing in their final two conference series (at Rutgers, vs. Penn State) feels essential; that’s possible but not a cake walk, even though the Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights are down toward the bottom of the standings. For now, Maryland still feels like something of a long shot — there are just two many teams ahead of the Terps in the standings.

Purdue series preview and weather forecast...

IU welcomes Foley back into the weekend rotation barring a last-minute setback. Purdue has been a hot hitting team getting off to quick starts and one of their leading hitters is redshirt freshman 1B Luke Gaffney who is hitting .412 on the season and has been named the B1G Freshman of the Week five times so far, and is probably a shoo-in to be the conference freshman of the year. Purdue has been helped on the mound by two transfer pitchers in LHP Jordan Morales who transferred in from PSU and is 6-4 on the season, while LHP Luke Wagner who transferred in from Georgia is 7-0 on the season. While those two pitchers' numbers haven't been exactly overwhelming, they have benefitted greatly by the Purdue hitters which have usually gotten them off to good starts.

LHP Brandon Keyster will be on the mound for IU with an ERA of 5.17 in 5.17 IP and a WHIP of 0.89 with an OBA of .196.

LHP Jordan Morales with be on the mound for PU with an ERA of 4.50 in 62.0 IP and a WHIP of 1.45 with an OBA of .295.

Game 2 (Sat at 2 p.m. ET)

RHP Connor Foley will be on the mound for IU with an ERA of 4.74 in 43.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.24 with an OBA of .162.

LHP Luke Wagner will be on the mound for PU with an ERA of 5.04 in 55.1 IP with a WHIP of 1.66 with an OBA of .332.

IU's fielding is .965 with 54 errors in 45 games, while Purdue is .973 with 44 errors in 44 games.

Game 2 (Sat, 2 p.m. ET) - It's expected to be 78 with intermittent clouds with a very slim chance of precip. Wind is expected to be out of the SW at 6 mph with almost no gusts.

Game 3 (Sun, 1 p.m. ET) - It's expected to be 70 with a mix of sun and clouds and a 25 pct chance of precip. Wind is expected to be out of the NW at 5 mph.

Concerning the backup 4-5......

It would not shock me if we ended up waiting for a late bloomer or a late decommit from the '24 HS class......It's an important spot, but so limited in what we can offer.....but maybe that guaranteed 5-10M can be better sold to an incoming freshman.

I'd rather have someone ready to play from the get-go, but a raw but talented kid could be ready to help by the BT season, and more so by the tourney.

Damages

Why aren’t the students in these encampments and those inside damaged buildings being charged for the cleanup?

My sophomore year at IU I was shocked at registration when I had a charge for damages at Wissler 3 from my freshman year. I didn’t even participate in whatever the damages were but I paid if I wanted to register.

Why

isn’t Biden’s Justice Department investigating the violation of Jewish Students civil rights on college campuses?

If white students were physically keeping black students from entering their college classes, do you not believe the investigations would be in full flight? And rightfully so.
