Penn State 2024

Next up is a look at Penn State for 2024-25.

One interesting aspect of PSU 2024-25 is that 9/10 of the players most likely to see playing time are current or former transfers, and the 10th is a true freshman.

The biggest ? for PSU is the status of Ace Baldwin. He did not enter his name in the portal and wasn't invited to the NBA camp. He hasn't announced any intention to go pro either in the NBA or Europe. And PSU hasn't recruited a PG out of the portal. So it appears he is returning, although he has made no official announcement. If for any reason he does not return PSU is probably a bottom 4 team in the BT.

The possible rotation players appear to be:

--6'1: Ace Baldwin
--6'4" Freddie Dilione (TR)
--6'8" Kachi Nzeh (TR)
--6'8" Puff Johnson
--6'8" Zach Hicks
--6'6" Nick Kern Jr.
--6'11"Yanic Niederhausen (TR)
--6'5" Demarco Dunn
--6'8" Eli Rice (TR)
--6'10" Miles Goodman (FR)

The 5 position is the 2nd biggest question mark for PSU. Goodman is a borderline top 100 HS recruit who will probably compete with Nzeh and Niederhauser for pt.

Otherwise there are a lot of other interchangeable wing types with Puff Johnson and Dilione perhaps having the highest ceilings. Dunn is a former top 60 UNC recruit who has yet to make much of an impact.

Assuming Baldwin returns PSU projects to be much like last year. 1 star player, uncertainty at the 5, and 6 or so competent wing players This looks like a 7th to 9th place 10-10 type team.

Globalization

“I said to Angela Merkel, ‘Angela, how many Chevrolets are in the middle of Berlin?’ She said none. I said, ‘You’re right about that. But we take your cars, including cars that aren’t that expensive, like Volkswagen, relatively speaking.’ I said, “do you think that’s fair?’ She said, “Probably not, but until you came along, nobody ever mentioned it.”

Curious as to who made the first move?

Anyone know how Dolson and Coach Cig got connected? Did IU hire a search firm that reached out to CC, did CC (or his agent) reach out to Dolson first, or perhaps someone like Nick Saban reached out to IU and said you should talk with CC? Fascinated to know how IU ended up with what I think will be the best hire since Mallory. CC doesn’t have to beat OSU, Michigan, and Oregon (although an occasional upset would be sweet), but he has to win consistently against teams like Maryland, Rutgers, Northwestern, Minnesota, ect. I’m really looking forward to the next few years of IU football.

Cincinnati game preview and weather forecast...

Game is scheduled for Tues at 6 p.m. ET at The Bart and it's a rainy day tomorrow so we need to keep an eye on the possibility of a schedule change.

Cincinnati is 5th in the Big 12 with an overall record of 27-21 and a conference record of 13-11 and they feel they can still possibly get an at-large bid with a strong finish if they don't win the Big 12 tournament. Cincy's RPI is currently 67 to IU's 62. It's the last midweek home game for IU.

Two familiar names are starting for the Bearcats: Hunter Jessee is starting in LF and he is currently hitting .250 and has 6 doubles and 3 homers. Cal Sefcik's older brother, Luke Sefcik, a redshirt soph, starts at 2B for the Bearcats and is hitting .302.

Starting pitchers:

RHP Evan Whiteaker will be on the mound for IU and he has an ERA of 12.27 in 11.0 IP and a WHIP of 2.18 with an OBA of .393. Whiteaker has really struggled this season having been charged with 15 earned runs in his 11 innings pitched. He pitched three innings back on 3/13 against Illinois State where he was charged with 8 earned runs in those three innings and then didn't pitch again until 4/21 against Minnesota where he pitched one inning giving up an earned run. He pitched again on 4/23 for an inning against Ball State giving up a double, but he wasn't charged with any runs in that one inning. Hopefully, he gets off to a good start with the Bearcats.

RHP Griffin Hugus will be on the mound for Cincy with an ERA of 4.95 in 20.0 IP and an OBA of .250.

Stat comparison:

Batting: IU is hitting .300, while the Bearcats are hitting .278 as a team.

Pitching: IU has a team ERA of 6.45, while the Bearcats have a team average of 5.88.

Fielding: IU is at .964, while the Bearcats average is .973. IU has 60 errors in 47 games, while the Bearcats have 47 errors in 48 games.

Weather forecast: It's expected to be 74 at game time (Tues at 6 p.m. ET) with mostly cloudy skies and a 34 pct chance of precip. Wind out of the SW at 12 mph. They are expecting a thunderstorm around 2 p.m. that afternoon with it tapering off going into the late afternoon/early evening with the chance of a thunderstorm starting again around 8 p.m. that evening.

Hicks vs Nicks

If anyones watching, you cant tell me the NBA is rigged! I been saying that sht for the last 25 years! Refs have made several of their usual pathetic bad calls! Turner was mauled by Brunson and they reviewed the play! Replay clearly showed Brunson all over Turner and they reverse the call saying is was legal contact!??? While Pacers defenders breathe on Brunson and get called for a foul! NBA coddles their big market teams and screw us small markets whenever they can! So, how is this not rigged??? Anyone? Anyone???…Tim Donahee/Scott Foster/Tony Brothers/Pavetta, etc are all dirty!
I dont even know why I am watching this! I guess since theres nothing else on, but i cant stop shaking my head in disgust! such a bad product!

Going to the UCLA game?

I just booked a round trip ticket on American non-stop from Charlotte to LAX on Sept 12 and return Sept 15 for 35k Frequent Flyer miles.

My wife booked her flight round trip on American, going through Chicago, from Ft Wayne, since she'll be there then. $234. Round Trip! She's taking a red eye back on Saturday night.

If you're going to the game, you might want to check out flights now - good deals!

Noticing some change

W Woodson. He stopped hockey line subbing. Looking like he will fill all roster spots this season. He has done a good job rebuilding the roster.

Now- will there be a change in his system? Time will tell. If he does, this team will be very good. I say let em run and just add some perimeter actions. We will see in December if this stuff changes too. Hoping for a great yr. Not a good one, a great one.
