Least damaging split government?

Which split government do you like best?

  • Trump in Oval, Dems control House and Senate

    Votes: 5 18.5%
  • Biden in Oval, GOP controls House and Senate

    Votes: 22 81.5%

Another thread got me thinking: so many folks around here don't really like either candidate, and a lot of folks are fond of slowing government down as much as possible. So let's say we end up with one party in control of the White House, and the other party in firm control of Congress (both houses): which version would you be more comfortable with?

Zakaria: The presidential election isn’t playing out how I thought it would

My guru Fareed Zakaria paints a dim picture concerning the likelihood of Biden being elected.

He offers several points which point to a Trump victory and concludes by saying....

The one that troubles me most concerns the question of who is more competent. Biden led Trump by nine points in 2020, but Trump now leads by 16 points in 2024. That 25-point shift could be a reflection of people’s sense that the president’s age is affecting his capacity to govern. If so, there is very little that Biden can do to change that perception.

"Friends until I find out you voted for Trump"!

My wife has been friends with a lady she works with for well over a year, close enough that they speak daily and we have been to her house and she ours multiple times. Friday night they were talking on the phone and she found out who my wife voted for and didn't take it well. The next morning my wife wakes up to a text saying they can no longer be friends, based solely on who she voted for. My wife's response was "well I guess that is how it has to be".

The friend happens to be a lesbian and swears that Trump is going to take away all her rights? She is also the same lady who the last time we were at her house complained that she was going to have to sell due to the rising prices and not being able to afford what she was used to being able to buy.

Not really sure where I'm going with this other than, do many see this type of thinking in their daily lives? I mean my wife knew a long time ago how the friend was going to vote(the friend is very vocal about it) and never batted an eye, she just respected her choice.

Issa Muhammad

This guy feels like he would be a great fit for what we need. He's not a starter level player, per say, but he has a lot of bounce to his step and high points rebounds. Off the bench we aren't likely going to find a starting level talent willing to join us but if we can get someone who's a veteran off the bench that can help get our 2nd line get more possessions (or eliminates second chances of the opponent) then he offers us something Sparks fell just short of at times.

I met James Winters (Iowa '90-94) last night. Team Captain, 2nd Team All Big 10, 18 ppg as a senior.

I was at the Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Ave and he and his wife were at the bar. His wife said "We're leaving if you want our seats." I said "Sure, but can we sit on your laps until you leave?" And he turned around and gave me a look like "Da ****?" They laughed and I said "The only thing I don't like about you is that Hawkeyes hat." He stood up and turned on his phone and showed me a picture of him dunking on Grant Hill. Very intimidating guy, but very nice. His wife is very petit. Maybe 5'1". She's a psychologist. Sweet woman. Very nice couple.

Sunday B1G scores and B1G standings for 5/12...

Other scores from around the B1G.

Michigan 8 Purdue 6 - Michigan moved into a tie for 3rd with IU and Purdue by winning the home series, 2-1. For seeding purposes, IU right now has the tie breaker over Purdue with the series with Michigan and IU breaking the tie between them with their series coming up.

PSU 11 Rutgers 10 - PSU is fighting for a spot in the B1G tournament and they are tied with Minnesota for 10th place right now after taking the home series 2-1.

NW 3 OSU 1 - OSU missed out on a chance for a sweep of the worst team in the B1G, but winning the home series, 2-1, put them in a three-way tie with Maryland and MSU for 7th place.

Minn 15 MSU 12 - The Gophers won the home series 2-1 and by doing so, they stayed in the picture for getting one of the bottom seeds in the tournament and are tied for 10th with PSU. By losing the series, MSU was in a tie for 7th with Maryland and OSU.

Illinois 6 Iowa 3 - Illinois won the home series 2-1 and stayed a game ahead of Nebraska for 1st place. Iowa is in 6th place and their B1G schedule is finished and they locked into at least the 6th seed depending on what happens this coming weekend, while they play out of conference.

Boston College 2 Maryland 1 - Maryland won the road series 2-1 and they are in a battle for one of the lower seeds and are tied for 7th with OSU and MSU. Maryland has a really good RPI of 35, but their conference record doesn't do them any good right now.

B1G Tourney: There are so many scenarios involved at the top of the standings as well as at the lower standings as far as seedings and who is going to be left out, it's useless to try and guess how things will stack up after the last day of the regular season on Saturday. The season ending series will start on Thursday since the B1G tournament begins on Tues., May 21. The only thing that is certain is that Iowa at the very least is locked into 6th seed and could move up depending on what the teams do above them. All Iowa can do is watch what happens in the other series. Northwestern and Rutgers are the only teams eliminated from the tournament. Here are the season ending series coming up.

IU @ Nebraska, Game 3: Errors and listless offense cost IU the game and series, 4-2...

This game is on BTN.

It will be LHP Ryan Kraft on the mound with an ERA of 7.64 in 17.2 IP and a WHIP of 2.04 with an OBA of .316. The batting is the same as the previous two games. It would be nice if IU could generate some offense in the early innings which is something IU hasn't done in a while. In the series, Taylor got leadoff homers to start the game then IU did nothing much until the later innings. In the past five games, IU has generated just five runs total through the 5th inning.

It will be LHP Jackson Brockett on the mound for the Huskers with an ERA of 2.60 in 17.1 IP with an OBA of .197. Brockett pitched a no hitter in his last outing which was a midweek game against Kansas State. This is his first start in a B1G game this season.

It's 75 and cloudy and they expect some rain later in the afternoon. The wind is not much at all and is out of the W at just 3 mph.

1st inning:

T1st:

Taylor grounded out to start the game. Pyne grounded out. Mitchell walked on a full count and Cerny flied out to retire the side.

B1st:

Kraft Kd the leadoff hitter. It didn't take long for IU to get an error in the game as a single went right through Taylor legs in LF and the runner took 2nd with one out.

A lineout to LF got the 2nd out with the runner holding at 2nd. Kraft got another K to end the inning with the error doing no damage.

End of 1st: IU 0 UN 0

Watching an IU game from 1997-1998 and what could have been on paper.

Wilkerson would have been a 5th year senior. Reed a senior.

On Paper:
Soph: Jason Collier 7'0. MCD AA
Sr: Andre Patterson 6'9". MCD AA
fr: Luke Recker 6'6". MCD AA
sr: Sherron Wilkerson. 6'4". MCD AA
sr: Neil Reed. 6'3" MCD AA

6- sr: Charlie Miller. 6'7". Top 50 kid
7- so: Some kid named AJ Guyton. 6'1"
8- 5th yr sr Richard Mandeville 7'0"
9- sr: William Gladness. 6'8"
10 so: Michael Lewis. 6'2"
11 sr: Robbie Eggers. 6'10"
12 jr: Rob Turner. 6'4"
13 so: Larry Richardson 6'8"

I think this would have been the roster had all stayed intact. Wow, As much as talent as anyone on paper. Legit top 10 team on paper. Crazy thinking about what that team could have been if the 94-95 class hadnt started the downfall for coach. 🤷‍♂️

IU @ Nebraska, Game 2: Walk-off extra inning homer beats IU, 5-2...

This game in on BTN.

It's RHP Connor Foley on the mound for IU with an ERA of 4.53 in 47.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.22 with an OBA of .162. The batting order is the same as last night.

RHP Mason McConnaughey on the mound for Nebraska with an ERA of 3.19 in 48.0 IP and a WHIP of 1.27 with an OBA of .253.

79 degrees and mostly sunny.

The game on Sunday has been moved up an hour to 12 noon ET with rain expected to move in on late Sunday afternoon.

1st inning:

T1st:

For the second straight game, Taylor lead off to start the game with a solo homer. Pyne Kd and Mitchell singled to put a runner on. Cerny Kd and Brenczewski flied out to retire the side.

B1st:

Foley Kd the leadoff hitter. Foley got the 2nd out on a shallow pop up to Taylor in left.

Foley then walked a batter on a 3-1 count to put a runner on with two outs. A groundout ended the inning.

End of 1st: IU 1 UN 0

Note: Purdue and Illinois both lost today, so IU has a chance to move into a tie with Illinois for first with a win tonight.

Is a national pregnancy database small government?

My little girls will be taught that Katie Britt is a ****ing dipshit.

Child support obligations prior to birth? How the hell is paternity established? lol

Maybe one of you intellectual conservative geniuses can explain this?

Keeping track of women's pregnancies, seriously? Should we not also keep track of all the masturbating men do so we make sure those sperms aren't wasted?

We have to protect life, after all. Whether it's a blastocyst or a sperm cell apparently makes all the difference!

Anyone see northern lights?

I went out and looked a couple of times, just clouds. Our house has bad light pollution to the north, so I didn't expect to see any. But if it were clear I would have driven up to Sample Road to watch. I should have, I see a lot of pictures this morning from Bloomington of the lights coming through the clouds. They are probably not as vivid as the lights from clear skies, but they are impressive.

Anyone get a good look?
