Biden to reverse course on border

In yet another sign that Biden's people are finally starting to realize how worried they should be about the election, he's going backwards towards the Trump era on asylum seekers. Now watch all the Republicans who killed his attempts to do this legislatively come out and accuse him of executive overreach.

Fight over Biden’s audio

Doj refusing to release the audio of Biden’s interview with special counsel. The reason? They’re afraid it could be distorted with AI. My guess is that that’s a pretense and the real reason is he sounds awful without a script to read, but damn this IA is a real problem. Conservative groups like heritage and media outlets have sued

Portal news - 2024...

Now that the season is over for us, I thought I would start a thread where all of the portal news coming out would be under one thread and not spread out. The portal opened for baseball on the date the tournament field was announced which would be May 27th and it's open for 45 days. That would put the window closing around July 10 or 11 for players to enter the portal and be eligible for next season. There are exceptions to the eligibility rules with players being able to transfer whenever there is a head coaching change or there are changes in financial aid from previous years. There might be some other exceptions that I'm unaware of. Hopefully, I've got all of that right.

Right now, the only name in the portal that's listed for IU is Brooks Ey and I don't remember him being on the opening day roster. He's listed as entering the portal on 05-25-2024 which is a couple of days before the portal opened on selection Monday, and I don't know the situation on that, but that date may be for players that were officially on the roster ending May 27th.

Southern Miss vs IU: IU ends the season by getting blasted, 15-3...

Game is on ESPN+

IU is the "home" team. Season is over with for the loser of the game and the winner will face the Vols tonight.

RHP Brayden Risedorph will be on the mound for IU and he has an ERA of 7.52 in 46.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.65 with an OBA of .268. Evidently, Taylor was removed in the Vols game because of his left shoulder since he is back at DH again, with Colopy in LF. Mathison has moved back to CF after being the DH in the Vols game. The batting order is the same as it was against the Vols with Taylor, Pyne and Mitchell at the top of the order, Tibbitts, Cerny and Mathison in the middle of the order, and Oliver, Stadler and Colopy at the bottom of the order.

RHP Colby Allen will be on the mound of USM with an ERA of 3.86 in 58.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.27 with an OBA of .250. He was used mostly as a reliever for the Golden Eagles.

USM has used just three pitchers in their first two games of the regional, so they have a well-rested bullpen.

1st inning:

T1st:

Risedorph walked the leadoff hitter on a full count. IU walked 9 batters in the Vols game in the first four innings.

A double that went into the corner scored the walk to give USM a quick 1-0 lead.

A single scored the runner from 2nd with no outs. Risedorph then went full on the next batter but got a K for the first out.

A pop up to 2B got the 2nd out with the runner still at 1st. Risedorph then walked another batter on a full count and he was over 33 pitches at this point which is something IU certainly didn't need if they survive this game. There were runners a 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Risedorph then went full on the next batter before giving up a double to make it 3-0 with runners at 2nd and 3rd and two outs. Tonghini started warming up in the bullpen.

Risedorph then hit a batter to load the bases. A base hit scored two more runs with runners at 1st and 2nd and USM had had batted around and Risedorph was at 50 pitches in the first inning.

Risedorph went full on the next batter but he finally got the last out to retire the side.

B1st:

Taylor flied out on his 2nd pitch. Pyne tried a bunt on the first pitch to him and he was out for the 2nd out. Mitchell Kd as IU went down in order on just 8 pitches.

End of 1st: USM 5 IU 0

Ted Koppel's still got it

hich surprises me since I wasn't sure that he was still working in Media. Hell I even thought he might have died. Strange how you lose track of people when they're no longer in the spotlight...

I thought this was fair and balanced, no doubt some will disagree. But if you're going to claim it unfair that many of the Trump fans came off as ignorant buffoons, and aren't representative of most Trump voters then the challenge may be to have the more intelligent members of the group be the ones who come forward. Whenever I see someone from the "fake news media" interview the people at a Trump rally,it's always the less than opitmum examples who are willing to speak on camera. So it's not like there isn't an attempt to give voice to better spokespeople, but for some reason the only people willing to speak and try to explain their position are just not the sharpest tools in the tool box...

Strange how Trump would invoke Gettysburg (in PA) but then for some reason bring up Robert E Lee. To lament the fact that Lee has fallen out of favor in a speech in PA makes no sense to me. This isn't GA or Mississippi, Lee was the Commanding General of an Army of Rebels who (in this case) invaded the US. And Trump seemingly feels that locals in the area who were subjected to an invasion should somehow have positive feelings of the man who was the figurehead of the invading army? Just one of several things that personally annoy me about Trump, his inabilty to grasp history in any kind of meaningful way...

On the other hand, the guy from the Park Service is an example of the best we have to offer. He's exactly the type of person that I would expect to be leading tours of a memorial to such a horrendous battle. Not sure how anyone, esp those of us from the North aren't bothered by video of Confederate battle flags being paraded thru the halls of the Capitol.

BOT Voting

If you have yet to cast your BOT vote, you have until the end of June.

Encourage you to read the candidate statements, most are rather telling of what their focus is.

If you ar a DEI supporter there are a couple of candidates with a heavy focus.

If you are focused on maintaining/improving IU's status as the flagship/premier academic university in the state; there are a couple of candidates with heavy focus.

Regardless...vote.

lol @ MAGA

Take a step back and appreciate what you're doing: you're asking Americans to turn their arms on their fellow Americans, and abandon our legal system, all over a guy who was too stupid to just pay Stormy Daniels himself. Does it not bother you, MAGA, that Trump's defense to all these things is always "I never knew the crazy broad!"?

Sure, Don. You never knew any of these women. dws

Let's set the country on fire, though. That's the most important thing.

Equating Trump's self-inflicted "struggles" to the cause of liberty is obscene.

All you staunch intellectual conservatives sure love spending time in bed w sub 90 IQ types. Of course, you trick them with promises of eternal life, money they never get, etc. But show them a cross and a flag! Hooked for life!

Tennessee vs IU: IU can't overcome early homers in 12-6 loss...

This game is on ESPNU.

IU is designated as the "home team."

RHP Connor Foley is on the mound for IU with an ERA of 3.71 in 60.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.24 with an OBA of .155. There have been some changes to the lineup with Mathison being the DH today and Colopy in CF. Mathison had an injury from yesterday's game, but it wasn't enough to keep in out of the batting lineup. Taylor had been dealing with a left shoulder injury and had been used as the DH in recent games, but he is back in LF. The batting order is the same as it was in the So. Miss game.

RHP Drew Beam is on the mound for the Vols and he has an ERA of 3.92 in 85.0 IP and a WHIP of 1.27 with an OBA of .264.

1st inning:

T1st:

Foley Kd looking the dangerous Moore to start the game. Moore has 28 homers on the season.

A pop up to shallow left got the 2nd out. Foley walked the next batter on a full count. A balk sent the runner to 2nd with two outs. A flyout retired the side.

B2nd:

Taylor Kd looking for the first out. Pyne popped to 2B for the 2nd out. Mitchell went down swinging and IU went down in order.

End of 2nd: IU 0 UT 0

Tennessee vs IU preview...

Rain could be a problem for this game with pockets of rain showing up on the radar for the Knoxville area. The game time forecast is 73 and cloudy with a 47 pct chance of rain and the wind out of the W at 7 mph.

There's not a lot of information on this matchup outside of the previews of the regional. I have not seen a starter announced for the Vols but you can pretty much take it to the bank that RHP Drew Beam will be on the mound, since the Vols have two primary starters in AJ Causey and Beam and they used Causey last night.

Probable starters are:

RHP Connor Foley for IU with an ERA of 3.71 in 60.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.24 with an OBA of .155.

RHP Drew Beam will probably be on the mound for the Vols and he has an ERA of 3.92 in 85.0 IP and a WHIP of 1.27 with an OBA of .264.

Among the regional field, the Vols have the best numbers in all of the major stat categories. The Vols have a small ballpark with it being 390 to dead center and they have taken advantage of that. IU's top home run hitter is Devin Taylor with 18 homers, but the Vols 2B Christian Moore leads their team with 28 homers which is 5th in the country. Their home run hitters including Moore's number have the following totals on the season: 28, 20, 18, 17, 17, and they have five more players with homers anywhere from 6 to 9. Tennessee has 150 homers on the season in their 62 games while IU has 80 homers in their 58 games.

The Vols have a team batting average of .311 to IU's .297.

The team ERA for the Vols is 3.83 while it is 5.97 for IU.

The Vols fielding percentage is .979 with 45 errors in their 62 games. IU has a fielding percentage of .965 with 70 errors in their 58 games.
