Michigan 2024

Next up is a look at Michigan's roster.

Michigan is one of the more interesting teams to evaluate. The only significant returners are Nimari Burnett and Will Tschetter.

The rotation players would appear to be:

--7'1" Vladislav Goldin (TR)
--7'0" Danny Wolf (TR)
--6'4" Roddy Gayle (TR)
--6'10" Sam Walters (TR)
--6'2" Tre Donaldson (TR)
--6'4" Namari Burnett
--6'8" Will Tschetter
--6'5" Rubin Jones (TR)
--6'3" Justin Pipper (HS)

The other present roster spots are filled by Jace Howard and two incoming freshman. I don't expect any of those three to get much pt.

Michigan has a lot of interesting parts, but would seem to be somewhat lacking in two respects--no real star player, and no athletic, versatile 6-6 or 6-7 shooter/defender. They do appear to have 1 roster spots open so we'll see if anything happens there.....

Golden is an experienced "true center" at 7-1 with no 3s attempted and 62/63% on his 2s. Wolf (Yale) was apparently not a great finisher inside based on low 50s% on 2s but does have 3 point range, and matched Golden in rebounding #s. Walters didn't play a lot last year for Bama, but had great shooting #s when he did. He may be a potential star. Both Burnett and Tschetter are efficient role players and either could start. For some reason I don't think both will.

Donaldson (Auburn) looks like an underrated transfer to me and looks to be the starting pg. I don't see a natural backup.. Freshman Pippen is a top 60 HS recruit but is labeled as a combo guard. Rubin James may also play some point. He's a decent transfer but lower rated than the other 5.

Overall I see Michigan as a very competent team and one that will probably improve significantly as the players' roles develop. Right now I'd project them as a smiggen below the grouping of IU, Purdue, MSU, Illinoi, OSU, and (possibly) UCLA.

Sleepers

Started listening to these guys last year, to hear outside perspective on our program and the rest of the B10. Felt they really enjoy trolling and trashing Hoosiers as MSU/UM guys, but do think they get good info, and they were certainly right about us last year. They love what CMW has done this year. They did an IU v PU analysis position by position and I think wound up giving IU a 4-1 advantage. They do hang on PU's nutsack however and I think at least 1 so far has predicted Braden as B10 POY, and believe right now those are the 2 best rosters in the B10. They both ranked PU around 9/10 and had IU just behind. They now seem to be enjoying trashing Woody, which is an improvement for ragging on a freshman Gabe Cupps all year.

Big year for Woody. Time for IU to accomplish something besides making the tourney. I think this team should be playing for a B10 title and surviving beyond the first week of the tourney.

These Pacers...

... are so frustrating to watch. But I know that's just a fan's reaction. The inability to defend, the giving up offensive rebounds, the stars not shining in the clutch, etc. But they're competing and they really are super young. Hopefully in a couple years they've added another piece or two and, more importantly, their young talent is getting closer to unstoppable.

I wonder if Tayven is in the mix?

I know Tayven (and McCulley) was 2nd team in the spring game. Tayven looked very good, but the defense was clearly tougher against the 1s. (Was any of it QB play?) But Tayven showed, I believe, what good coaching is going to do for a talented kid with a great arm.

One of the most interesting things to me will be, not the coaches final pecking order at any position, or even if it's clear they made the right call at every position. They know, we don't. More whether the guys on the team feel it's open competition. I expect they do, and I expect it is.

I just recall the first time I heard Coach Cig mention Tayven in a spring presser. It was when he caught himself speaking as if Rourke was the incumbent, then he said "and Tayven". But it didn't seem reluctant, more of a feel to me like "uhh, we do have this other kid" as if Tayven was surprising him and he was actually a little uncomfortable, making me hope their were no hard promises to Rourke. Of course after the spring game Coach Cig's grin about the 2nd team dee went back the other way, 'don't read too much into one scrimmage..." lol

Now, if it's Rourke after fall camp. I think he'll kill it. But I think Tayven has a chance to also. Also, hope we keep him in the off-season to battle Cherry and others. Rourke is one and done.

YouTube, AI, and Super Panavision 70

Okay, so I have allowed myself to fall into this rabbit hole. I'm sure much of this is old news to many of you, but if you go to youtube, and search, for example, Scooby Doo in Super Panavision 70 (attached below) you will encounter hundreds of shows and movies reimagined, through the use of AI, as 1950's movies.
It's good clean fun. Go ahead...find your favorite and bring it back here to this thread. Believe me...it's better than most of the bullshit being posted here.

Transfer Commitment List

Rivals really needs to add a transfer commitment page on the drop down under FB recruiting (and BB recruiting for that matter).

With teams often adding just as many transfers as they do HS recruits, it would be useful.

Edey First Pitch at Cubs Game

National news outlet calls Edey's first pitch putrid at the Cubs game

This after time after time, we had to hear the regurgitation and penile slurping of how he was great at baseball, loved baseball, baseball was his best sport growing up.... All BS.
